Hotel Villas Las Palmas al Mar is an excellent place to stay if you visit Las Terrenas either alone, as a couple or with family. Their service is excellent, friendly, willing and with a great sense of urgency.
My wife and i were there about a week ago with our three children (including a 1 year old), and it was all great. The beach is steps away from the facility, it's walking distance to the main part town where you can find great restaurants, shopping centers, bars, etc. The staff is very helpful and can assist you getting access to tours, excursions and other activities offered in the area.
Breakfast is included and it's actually very good (in my opinion). Everything offered is fresh.
The only thing some might complain about would be that during the day all hotels in Las Terrenas are affected noise from Motochonco (Motorcycles who serve as taxi), but it's very quiet at night.

It was my brother and my fiance (three of us total) that stayed here. It's not a typical hotel, but more like an extended stay hotel. They don't do room service everyday and there isn't always someone in the hotel office. Each cottage has two bedrooms and two baths. One is lofted above the other. There is a full kitchen as well. It was very clean and within walking distance of the main portion of town, and across the street from the beach.
You definetely need a rental car to get around in this town though.
We stayed in three different hotels in Las Terrenas in the under $100 category and this was by far the best hotel.

Couldnt ask for a better place right by the ocean. Staff is friendly and place is problem free. We go there often to get away from it all and find it is one of the few places in Las Terrenas where we can relax with no worries. Place is great for families as well as couples (like myself). Like a little apartment with small kitchen and short walk to restaurants for if you feel like cooking or not. Across the road is a great beach! There is also a swimming pool to take a dip in after the ocean. Breakfast is included and have a great variety for all tastes...Dominican and international. Best of all is that the ac works great for those hot Dominican days!

Very bad experience. Could not locate our prepaid reservation. Very slow to check in. Clothes from previous guests left in closet. Bathroom door broken. No hot water! No wifi! Shower didn’t work. The manager was not helpful and got angry when we asked for hot water or to change rooms.

Responsible for the "hotel" poorly educated, liar, not very attentive to clients, etc...
DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL EVER!!!
They reserve a villa and they put them in a room...
You leave the hotel because the facilities are in poor condition, dirty and they tell you to wait 4 hours to give you your money back and if they transfer it... Will they???? I doubt it.
We had to call Politur, which didn't help much either.
I hope the city council, the ministry of tourism and whoever attends to my submitted claim, because it is to be sent to health, tourism and whoever has any competence.
Party at the pool for 5 hours with drinks, music and a pool full of people drinking... It would be nice if they respected that the rest of us have rights too.
Response from the person in charge who denied being one, only 2 out of 50 have complained....can you be tougher????

We had high hopes for Villas Las Palmas based on so many good reviews, but our reality was different. While the bedrooms and bathrooms were reasonably clean, the kitchen area left much to be desired. Specifically, the refrigerator was filthy. A cup with a spilled drink was inside the refrigerator, and dead insects as well. The freezer was worse. It appeared as if someone had taken a handful of dirt and small twigs and thrown them inside. I am not exaggerating. I can't understand how this escaped the notice of the housekeeping staff.
Forget about internet as well. It was slower than dial-up from decades ago, utterly useless. We ended up just using our Claro USB modem to do some essential communicating.
However, the staff was nice and the breakfast was good. The pool also looked extremely inviting, although we didn't use it.
First impressions count for much though, so we cut our stay short. If that refrigerator had been overlooked then what else had been? Also, the villas are way overdue for a thorough update.

After a gruelling flight from Vancouver/Toronto with delays due to inclement weather we finally arrived at this resort dead tired (booked for 9 nights) only to be told they had overbooked and no room for us. They did however make arrangements to send us to a run down apartment complex and said we could return in 2 days. You've got to be kidding!! We book this accommodation months ago. We refused to move and wanted to speak to the owner/manager. They finally caved and gave us the room that we originally booked.
The rest of our stay was great. We loved the place. But having to deal with this stressfully situation upon our arrival left us with a bad taste in our mouth.

Considering were were a group of 15, we had immediate service and were promptly escorted to our apartments. As we approached the villa we were all pleasantly surprised on how peaceful and charming it was. It was very well kept, clean and comforting. We were walking distance to the beach, just crossing the street to the other side. Not a busy street as I expected, but we did arrive during a weekday. We rented a few ATV's for about $50 dollars from the afternoon until 11:00am the next day. It's usually about $70 but if you rent a few you can get a better price.
The beaches in Las Terrenas are the best I've seen in the D.R. by far. The beach in the area is Popy Beach. It has no seaweed, the sand is clean (no rocks) and you can walk in with confidence. The waters were calm during the time we went, with beautiful blue hues. In the evening, we just strolled though the strip of restaurants/cafes and lounges (mainly Italian and French), then back to the villa walking through the shore, very relaxing.
The breakfast was simple, but nice. Fresh fruit juice, coffee, scrambled eggs, French bread, homemade jam, local fruit; melon, pineapple, papaya. Pancakes upon request.
We went to a local mini market not too far away, did a little grocery shopping and had it delivered, including pizza. There were no sponges, or kitchen towels, but I asked and it was immediately provided.

Relaxing, quiet place, beautiful ground, like the layout of the cabanas, very nice staff but the cabanas even though they are comfortable needs a complete upgrade, better tv, the windows need renovation, some of them don't even close, toilet needs repair, our was lose and some other little things, the part that bother me most is the present of sugar ants, they are everywhere and I mean everywhere, kitchen, bathroom, the worst on the bed, everywhere!, location is ok but no beach, the ocean is right in front but you need to go some place else to go in it(don't matter to me), like I said before, is a beautiful place where people can relax and have a good time, I guess that I got what I paid for, I love las Terrenas and I definitely will try to come back and I have no problem to come back to this hotel, no before checking in others hotels just for the fact that the hotel needs a little upgrade and the ants problem wich I think it can be control.

We stayed at this hotel for three weeks and there were too many challenges to overcome. First, the hotel attracts a lot of no-class individuals particularly on the weekends (every weekend). They come very well-prepared to party by setting up a huge speaker outside of the unit, karaoke machines, and microphones. Staff says nothing about the disturbances.NEVER! What reputable hotels allows this?? Second, this is a small property and there are no pool hours. Screaming adults and children were in the pool as late as ll pm on some occasions. They bring their beer and completely occupy the pool. It's their private oasis and the other guests don't matter. Third, the one-bedroom is advertised as having 1184 square feet. As such, we expect to have the space completely furnished at all times. Half-way through the stay an employee arrived to remove the bed in the loft area which we used as a reading room. We were furious because we paid to have the space furnished. We compromised and allowed the twin beds to be separated and kept one to relax while reading. The bed was taken to another unit and not returned as we requested. Their excuse was that we booked a one bedroom. Our response was we booked a one-bedroom that should be fully furnished during the entire stay. We thought the loft would have some sort of sitting area although the photos on the website "cleverly" does not show the loft. On Booking.com, the one and two bedrooms are advertised as having 1184 sq. ft. and identical designs. When guests in another unit ask for extras beds, they try to take it from a unit where there are fewer occupants. After staying on six continents and in hundreds of hotels personally and professionally, we have not experienced such a lack of business acumen and an unfair practice. Fourth, the credit card machine did not work on our first attempt to pay, but Frank said they would take our balance of $2500 in cash. What? We let him know this was not going to happen because the hotel accepted Visa credit card and that would be our form of payment. He said the machine would be ready in three days which sounded ludicrous. It took us three tries and the third week of our stay before the transaction was completed. Fifth, English is advertised as one of the languages spoken. Communication was poor because none of the staff spoke fluently. Sixth, the furniture is not four-star quality. Sixth, we returned at 6:30 pm one evening and the remaining twin bed in the loft was missing. When we asked why it was taken the excuse was the bed was cleaned while we were away between 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm. and would be returned. Of course, we did not believe that excuse. Why wait until we were away and more importantly who cleans a bed in the "early" evening as opposed to after a checkout??? Seventh, the breakfast was not very good. The reason this rating is not a one-star is because the grounds are well-maintained, the maid service is good, and the breakfast staff works very hard.
