#2 of 3 Speciality lodging in Murupara
Set in a tranquil two hectares of land at the Gateway to the Te Urewera Rainforest and just a minutes walk to the Rangitaiki River (and 5 minutes to the main street of town!), the Murupara Motor Camp has units capable of sleeping a total of 44 in two separate complexes. There are fully equipped kitchens and clean and tidy showers and toilets and a coin-operated laundry. Some units are premium, with full linen service, TV and small fridge, while the backpackers option of basic bed is also available. There are also powered and non-powered sites for campervans/mobile homes and areas available for tents. One of the Bay of Plenty's largest swimming pools is next door, making this a popular destination for families and schools and having a large hall available for private functions means the complex is utilised for everything from large community groups to small specialised team building.

We've spent about 5 nights at this motorcamp as a family of 4 (2 small kids) and a dog. The campground is well maintained and the hosts are very friendly and helpful. A very relaxed and easy going atmosphere. Be aware that the campground is right next to the main highway which is not immediately clear from the website's photo's. Be aware that the fencing on the roadside is not fully closed and about waist height. Wandering kids could easily walk out. Rear side of the campsite is high and actually barb-wired! The area around the campground has little to offer. You can walk to the nearby shops which has a 4-square. There is a outdoor pool close by which looks like it's recently done up and is a great place to cool off. Free entry too!! There is a coffee shop as well which serves good coffee and some food. The playground on the campsite is very tired. Any kid heavier than our 4 & 6yo would risk breaking the swings etc. Trampoline already was broken. Driving out a little bit further and there will be some excellent places to explore. Some walking tracks and driving along the river bank (south of Murupara) gave some great places to play and explore. Randomly driving into some of the logging roads also proved fun and some surprisingly nice places. Talk to the locals for some good directions! We were here around NY 2018/2019

Stayed here for 4 nights unexpectedly and they were able to accommodate us. Friendly staff, clean facilities, well equipped kitchen and peaceful atmosphere. Highly recommended if your into recreational hunting, hiking, fishing and mountain biking. Plently of tracks close by and DOC office just down the road too. We definitely planning another trip soon. Really nice place to stay and camp. Cozy rooms, big kitchen, clean toilets - all you need. Place is run by very friendly and helpful Kiwi couple. You can also do many activities like rafting. There is a lot of space, good WiFi conection and cheap laundry service.
