Had no accommodation booked, just drove in and booked a room, very easy. Huge two bedroom w one large King bed and two single. Cooking facilities, laundry in complex and a super shower, flatscreen tv, everything was great. Location close to town and surrounded by lush green Sycamore and Hornbeam trees, loved it. Friendly staff, recommend to anyone passing through.
My Wife and I stayed at this motel for two nights to compete in the Motatapu sports events. It’s in a fantastic location, to many facilities that the town offers. We were warmly greeted by the owner/manager. The room had great ammenities, Set in fabulous grounds. Walking distance to many restaurants and bars that the town offers. We fully recommend for a short weekend stay or a longer stay at this great motel and Arrowtown.
Just came off another enjoyable stay at Shades of Arrow in late February at the onset of a 2+ week combined N and S island NZ trip. The park-like grounds are lovely and offer very easy walking access to downtown Arrowtown, Chinese Village as well as all restaurants and shops. The manager/hosts are welcoming and rooms were compact but comfy. GREAT tubular skylight in bathroom...gave me construction idea for home I am designing. Looking forward to again using Shades of Arrowtown as base for our next Arrowtown/Queenstown trip.
We have been going to Arrowtown for many years, usually staying out a bit from the centre, but this time wanted to be right there, and we were sure able to soak up the Arrowtown atmosphere at Shades. A walk along the gorgeous tree lined street of historic cottages brings you to the inviting entrance of Shades and their lavender garden. As far as motel's go, we couldn't fault it, and was immaculately clean, especially in the bathroom. We didn't need to be anywhere with breakfast included, as we sometimes tire of the same thing everyday, if you are staying in the same place for several days. What we found great, was that directly over the road is a place called Provisions that have excellent food to bring back for breakfast, or alternatively, sit in Provision's adorable garden and eat there. The owners of Shades were lovely and very helpful. Just a short 2 min walk down to a wonderful little pub called The Fork and Tap where you can watch the Arrowtown world go by! Can't wait until we are back there again and will definitely stay again at Shades.…
Great place to stay right on the edge of the historic center of Arrowtown, close enough to walk to town, but far enough away to avoid the hubbub of the influx of visitors during the day. It is easy to walk to a lot of the main attraction of Arrow town and some good walking trails for those who can't get enough trail time. Owners are friendly and very helpful.
