Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Absolutely lived up to sign as you enter the place luxury accomadation. Beautiful rooms amazing views of the countryside. meals superb. Hosts great to talk to. hubby even had a swim in the pool. my only criticism would be the lack of attention given to housekeeping in our room.

We treated ourselves to two nights at the Greenhill Lodge and stayed in the King Suite. Our expectations were met on all levels; beautiful surroundings coupled with wonderful service from our hosts. On our first day, we were welcomed with tea, club sandwiches, and chocolate brownies and that set the tone for the remainder of our stay. Our suite was spacious, light, clean, and extremely comfortable. We loved our time there and were treated like royalty. I would highly recommend Greenhill Lodge.

If you're looking for luxury and tranquility in Hawkes Bay wine country, go no further. A warm welcome from hosts Charlotte and Steve, big squashy couches and chairs to relax in by roaring fires; the lodge is luxurious, yet homely, with a French country vibe. The best scones I've ever had (date and lemon) with a cup of tea on our afternoon arrival, large, comfortable bedroom, and maybe best of all, heated bathroom floor. Great choices for breakfast, and other meals available by arrangement (don't go past Charlotte's chicken pie!). Nothing was too much trouble over our 2 night stay.

We were lucky enough to stay at Greenhill with our family of four in the April school holidays. Charlotte and Stephen have recently taken over the lodge and we couldn’t of asked for better hosts. They are so welcoming and warm and our every request was more than met. Charlotte made us beautiful breakfasts every morning and Stephen went out of his way bringing us tea and games for the kids. They really bring true kiwi hospitality to Greenhill. The lodge itself is beautiful and rich in history. Our kids loved running in the grounds, picking fruit from the many trees and playing with all the different animals. We actually didn’t see much of the Hawke’s Bay during our visit, as we didn’t want to leave the lodge. We have stayed in many beautiful places around the world and I would rate this as one of the best.

Lovely house in a great location but... Took dogs as agreed, kept dogs in kennels/kitchen as requested. During week, were told hot water was ok, but just to keep an eye on the boiler and to turn off if looked like smoking or burning (i.e. fire risk in house with lots of kids). One cupboard fell on a 6 year old boy, thankfully without injury, and we then found another highly unstable cupboard. One drawer in kitchen wasn't working. An outside bench collapsed when being sat on including an elderly lady (quite normally sat on, no violence, not excessive number of people) After all that, when we left, we were accused of keeping the dogs in the house (quite emphatically false). We were accused of breaking the drawer (we left it out as we mistakenly thought they would want to know) and blamed for the bench (we hadn't complained as no injury done, so could be chalked up as unpredictable). Something about a stain on a carpet (possibly true? had several kids there so couldn't say). Didn't acknowledge that they had nearly severely injured a child. Basically, they kept a load of the deposit for completely spurious and invented reasons and left a very sour taste that completely spoiled the experience.

We visited the Greenhill Lodge in February of this year. It was a remarkable visit! In addition to being an absolutely beautiful and peaceful location, the lodge has an amazing host in John. The food was the best of our trip, and we had traveled extensively through Australia and New Zealand before we arrived at the Lodge on the last leg of our journey. Greenhill Lodge was just what we needed!

This really is an exceptional place to stay, peaceful, quiet and beautifully presented. John and his wonderful staff looked after us well and nothing was too much trouble. Booking of restaurants all happened seamlessly and the free taxi service was an added bonus. If you want to dine in you need to book your meals when you book the accommodation, I hear that John produces some lovely meals, certainly breakfast was very good. You will meet other guests and breakfast is served on one table, this might not suit everyone but it works well in this style of property. Our only slight disappointment was the fitness room was not available, apparently awaiting a refurb. Long walks was the order of the day. Highly recommended.

This place is a gem: a lodge with a sense of the Scottish highlands set in amazing landscape of NZ. John was a fabulous host with a great wry sense of humour. It is undoubtedly expensive but for a couple of nights it was perfect. We hope to return some day.

We all Loved Greenhill Lodge so much, we extended our stay. Twice. Can’t wait to go back. It’s gorgeous, peaceful, clean, tasteful and the owner John took amazing care of us. We spent a day sleeping, a day touring neighboring wineries, a day touring Napier. I woke up early every morning to watch the sunrise, and have coffee with the cows and sheep. Sort of my dream house, really.
