Terrible experience room cancelled last minute so made to stay in a dorm room as no other options on Easter weekend, smelly room and dirty, worst experience in a backpackers in Nz don't stay!!!! Usual Nz hospitality not obvious in this place!

Nice little homely backpackers. We only intended to stay for two nights but ended up staying three weeks. Maureen, the owner, went out of her way to help us. We arrived in Hastings quite late and she was good enough to pick us up from the bus stop. She heard we were planning to look for work and managed to get us an orchard job almost straight away. We met a whole host of interesting characters here and had a few good nights with BBQs etc. Only downside is the kitchen's a little small so it can be a bit of a chore to cook. But overall thumbs up!

We arrived late in the day looking for accommodation at short notice. We got the last available room. The hosts were welcoming and helpful. Really enjoyed our stay and appreciated the peace and quiet. Had a very restful night. Definitely recommend this hostel!

This backpackers is very welcoming and comfortable. The host is excellent,friendly and welcoming - including a tour of the place before you get started! The kitchen clean and well equipt and there is plenty of space to park a car ! Thanks!
