We had a terrific weekend at Hawthorne House. The outside of the house is beautiful, but the inside is a real work of art. The rooms are exquisitely appointed and every detail has been thought about. Lovely breakfast with fresh local produce, and lots of great recommendations from Pete and Paul about what to do nearby. They even got us a table at the top local winery restaurant when there were NO reservations to be had... Highly recommended!
Sensational! Great room, great hosts, great food. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts who made us feel so welcome. Gave us some great tips on where to go to eat and what to do. The wine tour was amazing. Don't bother to book dinner for that evening!
We happened upon an online escape deal for Hawthorne House and booked. For once, we didn't do any prior research, so it was a lovely surprise to arrive and discover the delight that is Hawthorne House. We were blown away by the sumptious decor, friendly hosts and generous welcome. We had everything we could possibly need, delicious beverages, yummy snacks, a warm, comfortable room and welcoming atmosphere. Peter and Paul were so helpful with their advice about activities and eateries. The history and story behind the property is fascinating and you will enjoy the array of art in every room. The breakfasts are to die for, especially the freshly baked croissants! We couldn't have asked for a better experience and would highly recommend.
Paul and Peter are wonderful hosts and justifiably proud of the house they have created. Rooms are very comfortable with extensive garden outlook and large covered decks. There's lots of laughs but also, relaxing quiet. Nothing is too much trouble. Breakfasts are superb and plentiful. Be warned. Highly recommended and our destination when next in the Bay.
We had two luxurious nights at Hawthorne House end restored and appointed and decorated by Peter and Paul. Our welcome by Paul started our adventure. Everything is quality and taste. Our spacious room has an ensuite with heated floor and towel rails and all bits and pieces you need in a bathroom. Snacks, teas and coffee, complentary wines and beer and apple juice. Very comfortable bed and good pillows. Dressing gowns...and this is just our room and verandah! Breakfast is a feast of locally grown and produced products, their own eggs, linen, crystal, silver. And you have the use of a most gracious and delightfully lit living room full of art. Paintings, sculptures, objets de vertu. Music softly in the background...sweet classical for breakfast and cafe style jazz in the evening. Peter and Paul are charismatic, anxious to please, amusing, professional and friendly. The welcoming sunset drinks first night with another couple staying we had vague associations with years ago (this is New Zealand after all) completed the holiday atmosphere. Thoroughly recommend this treasure. Best to have a big lunch or wine tour in the daytime and relax here in the evening is our suggestion. Top marks for every thoughtful thing Peter and Paul!…
A brilliant place to stay, everything about Hawthorne House exceeded our expectations, From our arrival to our departure Paul & Peter were 1st class hosts and the surroundings, ambience, art works food &,wine were just perfect. All the top ratings for this establishment are richly deserved. We enjoyed the experience so much we have already made another booking for May. Many thanks to you both for making our visit so memorable.
It is a big old house in spacious grounds not far from Hastings and Havelock North. Peter and Paul who own it and were our hosts bring a very high level of commitment to keeping guests happy and contented. Our room was spacious with all the stuff you expect, and a bit more, which included a nice range of drinks and snacks that were covered in the room rate. As usual they didn't quite complete the trifecta of sufficient luggage rack space, effective bedside lights, and enough shelf space in the ensuite, but they got close. (Shelf space was a bit constructed.) It was a nice room and we slept well. The guest lounge was a highlight and if you stay here make sure you get the stories behind the artworks here. The welcoming drinks on the first night were fun and generous. The breakfasts covered all we could want and I particularly liked the Zealong tea. There are more than enough very good restaurants within a short drive and the availability of a limousine service was great. Hawthorne House was a very good experience and has to be highly recommended. …
Hawthorne House is a pleasure to stay at. Consummate hosts who will organise everything you could possibly want. Set in idyllic grounds with a magnificent Elm lined driveway and about 10 minutes drive from Hastings or Havelock North, with some excellent restaurants at either location. A nice touch is the complimentary mini bar and a healthy and delicious breakfast is prepared daily with local produce taking pride of place. The House has some really great art and artefacts. Rabbits gambolling at the hedge line when having breakfast is a plus. Come away refreshed and pampered. Peter and Paul will make your stay memorable.
A lovely garden setting in the country but still within a comfortable distance to all Hawkes Bay points of interest ( Te Mata Peak must be one of NZ’s best vistas) The house and rooms are elegant and well appointed and the lovely vase of flowers a special touch with tasty local complimentary products in the rooms The artwork throughout is superb and the Hosts genial and very generous with their local knowledge , even going the extra mile to hunt down the vintage of a wine that I had particularly enjoyed at the recommended local St George’s Restaurant
A long weekend in Hawkes Bay for us both, staying at Hawthorne House, was a surprise Christmas gift from my husband. From the moment we arrived, our every need (and more) was catered for exceptionally well by our gregarious and generous hosts, Peter and Paul, in their tastefully and beautifully decorated heritage home with stunning artworks, in beautiful surroundings? Peter’s knowledge and relationships with local food growers and artisans (and foods sampled for breakfast), vineyards and other places of interests was exceptional and his suggestions and advice added further to our great experience of Hawkes Bay. What more could you ask for? Thanks for a memorable occasion guys!
