My wife, son(16) and I recently stayed at Anvil Court Motor Lodge in Hastings. We had initially booked for four nights but finished up leaving after two due to a change in our circumstances (we went there to visit our daughter who left Hastings for much of the time we were booked to visit).
There's not much I can say that was good about it. Yes they have a spa pool (listed on their website) but as it transpired it hasn't been in use for many months and there was just a few inches of cold stagnant water and an empty bottle floating in it. The single bed in the lounge was a pull-out sofa bed, which might have been OK except the mattress was only 4-5cm thick and with a very thin, dirty duvet (the substantial contamination was on the underside of the duvet and not the result of dirty bags being put on the bed as the manager suggested). The motel was frequented by seasonal workers who enjoyed smoking and drinking at the table outside their room, two doors from ours. My son and I tried using the pool table in the recreation room but abandoned play as none of the lights would work and it was becoming too dark to see. There were beds and mattresses piled up around it so play was rather cramped anyway. I tried using the spabath in the room and was met with several clumps of black crud when I turned the pump on. Apparently previous guests absconded with a key so we had to share the one key between us and hope the missing one wasn't used in our absence. There was an unheated outside swimming pool which looked well maintained but was too cold to use. Other than that, the place was a bit tired and lacklustre. We had to forfeit our $15 per night discount for staying for four nights (which we accept without grievance, acknowledging it was our choice to leave earlier than initially booked), but the $160 per night seemed like poor value for money.

A little old-fashioned and worn out in places (bathroom) but clean and beds comfy.

I only wanted a single room, but had to pay for a 2 room unit as this was all that was left.If you want a warm friendly welcome you will be disappointed. you arrive and are told your room number and that is all.The lock on the main ranchslider was broken, and the lady appeared to be surprised, this wa not a new fault, there was no hair dryer in the unit, and when I could not connect to internet to order dinner, I asked if she had the dominos number, no was the reply. The fruit pickers hanging round after you pull up is somewhat daunting, and is clearly where the main business comes from. advertised as pet friendly which is the only reason I stayed there, I have a show dog and we stay in many pet friendly motels round the north Island. the lady commented that she saw some hair on the bed, I explained they might of attached them as we walked past it DUH, and reminder her that my dog was cleaner than many of her guest. If you want a shower make it quick, as it goes from hot to cold in 20 seconds.
Over all it was ok for what you pay, but have stayed in much better for the same price. And usually get fantastic service thrown in where you are made to feel welcome and not just a pest.

The pool is fill of slim. You have to pay $5 for a spa. They didn't service while I was there for 8 days at all. Cockroach's (big ones) crawling all over the place. Poor maintence. Frayed cords, broken in half stove elements, dark and cold. If you don't want to get sick . Don't stay. Highly recommend Comfort Inn up the road on the same street. They are spotless and clean.

We chose this motel because it looked ok from the road, and the sign said free WiFi. I was surprised at how cheap it was – but not once I'd seen the place. Very tired decor, peeling paint and a smell of damp. What's more, the 'Free WiFi' was only for the first hour! The walls were so thin we could hear next door's TV until nearly 1am then again at 6:30am when they turned it back on. The place was almost empty so I don't know why we were put next to another occupied unit. To add to the delight, we were bitten by the first bed bug I've ever seen. It was, however, very cheap.

It was disgusting. A non smoking studio smelt of smoke, carpet was stained, shower laminate had chunks broken off the lower edges. No microwave and the TV only received free view, no radio but we were advised that we could listen the National Programme via the TV. Receptionist was very ungracious and very happy about refunding our money. This motel is used mainly for seasonal workers in the orchards and obviously they want the cheapest possible. Not recommended at all. Go down the road and pay a little bit extra for a clean, double bedroom unit with all facilities

Stayed as we were passing through for the night. Was the cheapest accommodation we could fine due to easter weekend. Very budget. Crowded just the plan essentials. Where the bed was, there was a pipe sticking out of the wall from an old radiator heater that had been dismantled but they left the pipe attached to the wall. As I got up in the middle of the night I smashed my thigh against it. Now I have a bruise. When we told staff the next morning the lady said ohh, no one's complained about that before. REALLY!!! Then she said thanks for alerting them. They knew about it. How could u miss it. As it is next to the bed? U can see it when u make the bed! We had to move the bed further away from the wall, as there wasn't much space to get into the gap. Recommend to find somewhere else to stay. I didn't read the reviews before we booked. Which I should of. We paid $85 for the night. The bed was terribly uncomfortable there was no sky channels, very basic. There was tenants constantly wandering the area which made us feel uncomfortable. Bad area to stay specially if your not use to the surroundings or if your not from this town.

On arrival greeted by a women who smelt like she had just had a cigarette. Place looked like it could do with some TLC.
The Unit was adequate if all you wanted was a place to sleep. Unit needs a good makeover. Dead cockroach under the bed in the room the children slept in. Cockroach crawling around in the cupboard where the glasses and plates were kept. As this was the only accommodation left in Hastings to accommodate my husband and myself and three grandchildren I booked it as I did not want to disappoint our grandchildren. I will definately not be staying there again.
