We arrived after hours for a 3 night stay, and immediately upon unlocking the door to our cabin I was overwhelmed by the stench of stale cigarette smoke, it was revolting. As we had kids with us and it was very late there was nothing we could do but open the windows to air things out and try to get some sleep - it smelt like there was an ash tray full of cigarette butts sitting on the table or under the bed.
The next morning we hunted high and low for the ash tray but couldn’t find it, so went to the supermarket and purchased 2 air fresheners to try to neutralise and freshen the air for our next two nights. To be fair, these did the trick and I couldn’t smell the ash tray after that.
Overall cleanliness of the camp ground wasn’t great, the tops of the light shades in our cabins were filthy and the shared bathroom facilities also were wiped down but not really cleaned, as you could see sludge in the seams of the hand basin and the showers smelled like drains.
The bbq area was nice and the kids enjoyed the pool. No bouncy pillow which was disappointing but the pedal bikes were lots of fun. I wouldn’t rush back here as the Napier version is a lot cleaner and feels better maintained.

We stayed 5 nights on a large powered tent site along "Lakeside Road" (although the signpost was missing!). The site bordered a stream and was very picturesque and tranquil with weeping willow trees creating shade and ducks swimming in the water. There was a swimming pool, spa, tennis/basket ball court, kid's playground, BBQ area, indoor lounge, as well as the obvious essentials ... communal kitchen area and ablutions with free showers. The hot water in the showers was iffy and although the ablution blocks were clean, they were old and "tired" looking. More water taps in the tent areas would be helpful. Three school groups arrived so that put an end to the peace and quiet at the swimming pool and the basket ball court as apparently students do not need to be supervised! The staff are clearly very busy because our call to arrange a booking was not returned. However, on site, they were very friendly and helpful giving us their full attention when signing in while the phone rang frequently!

Hi there, Thank you for taking your time to review us. We love our Lakeside sites as well due to the scenery and location. We understand it can be busy when groups join and generally group leaders should definitely be in charge, we try to give them a friendly reminder of this as well. We do like to give everyone the time when checking-in, we would prefer everyone got all their questions answered than being rushed for a phone call, however, the downside is when you are trying to call us you might reach our voicemail. This park is located in Hastings central, super close to the shopping centre and splash plant right around the corner. The pool was advertised as heated but it wasn’t. There was it enough rubbish bins on site and for the 3 days we stayed they weren’t emptied and rubbish was building up around them. The site itself is very clean with a stream running on the side. All but 2 washing machines were working which was difficult considering how many people were staying on site. I is dog friendly but does not accomodate any dogs
This park is in an amazing location if you are looking for somewhere to stay where you will be going out on adventures, we would stay here again

Our kids loved toasting marshmallows in the provided area. It will be a lasting memory for them! The rooms were clean and beds good to sleep on. Curtain in the kids bedroom didn't cover the window and the kids got scared at night. They met some new friends in the playground area, which kids always love.

My daughter age 7, my mother and myself stayed here for one week. The park is fantastic, well maintained, clean and inviting. The pool is fabulous with plenty of seating around the edge. The playpark is awesome for kids of all ages as there is also trampolines to use. It has a rock climbing wall and tennis/basketball courts as well as having karts and bikes to hire. My daughter loved it, as she could safely play on her scooter around the park and meet her friends in communal areas. We stayed in an ensuite unit which was very spacious and had everything you needed. We were also impressed with the communal BBQ area. It was very spacious, plenty of seating and lots of BBQs to use that are extremely clean. The staff are very friendly and always there to help when you need anything. I hope to come back later in the year :)

This park is old and run down. We experienced unclean toilets, bathrooms and kitchen and had to endure cold showers. The park is not secured at night as there was traffic around after 11pm. Charging for the internet or computer time is no longer acceptable

Hi Steve, sorry you didnt enjoy your stay. We clean the facilities twice daily and have signage asking to let reception know if they need extra attention. We dont have gates but as owners we live onsite and do keep a close eye on the park. Some of our long term guests work night shift, hence them driving home.

Great facilities and amenities available. The two biggest let downs for our families was, that the initial booking was mixed up. So one of our three families was put next to a group of very loud campers who were smoking and drinking till 1am in the morning!!! Also one of the men in that group went wandering through the women's toilets in a drunken state, which made the mum's of our group feel unsafe for themselves and for their daughters. However on a positive note the manager that was on duty, was able to switch rooms, and gave us access to all sports gear, use of the spa, go carts for the kids and discounts to Splash Planets all for free. Great customer service, going above and beyond. All in all a great stay.

We wanted to stay over during Cyclone Gabrielle with our motorhome. I know it was a state of emergency. They wanted to charge us $60, the normal price for a powered site.(no power available) I asked if they could give us a discount, as none of their facilities was in working order. They only offered toilets, no showers, not even cold showers The lady was so rude and yelled at me that its a state of emergency. I tried to say I am willing to pay for the site, but not the full amount, as they cannot offer anything. She then told me, she is not having this conversation with me, we can go to another place, which I said is ok, but I would like a refund. She wasn't keen and said their EFTPOS machines were offline. I paid cash, so in the end, she refunded me. Another campsite reduced their charges by 33% without us asking, as they had no power. Very disappointing.

Hi Estelle. I am so sorry that you are disappointed in your stay of 30 minutes. I remember serving you in our office, you were a walk in and I explicitly told you that we had no power. Yes we were in a state of emergency and we offered you a site as requested but without power as there was none. I was also horrified to hear that you started yelling at my family while they were just trying to cook their dinner in our barbecue area because we had no power. My sister, who you yelled at, is 14 and has anxiety and is still shaken up. You then came into our office with a bad attitude and started to yell at us. You weren't happy so we ended up refunding you. The fact that you put this all over review sites and Facebook does just go to show the type of person you are when our staff were under extreme pressure in order to keep our park running as smoothly as it could. Really enjoyed our stay. Will come again in the future. We were really happy with our hotel room and then playground and pool was awesome. We would recommend the campground to our friends as the location was great for Splash Planet and getting to the other cool playgrounds.
