If youre looking for a cheap base to stay when in Hastings this place works. Its walking distance to Frimley Park if you have kids, 2 minute drive to supermarkets and fast food joints and 15 to 20 minutes to Napier.

Yes the rooms are older but 2 bedroom unit is good for families like mine and provide everything you need. Complex also has a pool which was great on the hot days we had while there.

One downside is the rooms do get very warm and all fans need to run flat out to cool you and the unit down.

Stayed in the studio room which was the closest to the motel office, room very small but modern and no frills decor, tv and fan was tiny and barely worthwhile having, small bar fridge with tea and coffee and cookie. Bathroom very clean. Road noise was a bit of a problem in the morning, but otherwise it's a nice budget place to stay if passing thru.

We stayed in a double bedroom unit. The lady who was minding the hotel while the owner was away was lovely and voluntarily washed the kitchen pink velvet chairs that were badly in need of it.

There was paint chipped on the window frames; the basin in the bathroom had a warped side and was coming away from the side of the vanity unit. Carpet was a bit stained. The beds were comfortable and clean but the overall impression is our motel room was tired and they need attention. We weren't the only ones staying there who thought this.

Free WIFI was available but we had to obtain a different password for each day from reception. We were not told the WIFI password at check-in.

The hotel sign was never it up at night time so it was difficult to find when returning at night.

Our preference is to try a different motel/hotel option if there is a next time.

Frimley Lodge was a great place for our one night stay in Hastings. The location is a great access point for the town centre and for visiting the wineries - we were able to hire bicycles nearby. The owner was very friendly and so helpful, even going out of his way to help us remove a bike rack from our car and putting our spare wheel on when we got a flat tyre. The rooms were very clean, modern and well-equipped.

I'm not that one who would give a bad review for a motel, but I disliked my stay! I am really disappointed.
We stayed in a studio apartment even though the place was fairly clean it did not have a nice atmosphere!
On arrival we were given our room key and told which room we were in, the owner didn't even have the decency to even show us to our room and explain the features.
Both me and my partner had the worst sleep, due to hearing the cars go passed every second.... I think I only got about 4 hours sleep that night! The bed in the motel was old and worn out, it must have been there since the 80's, the sheets were so faded and smelt dirty.
There were ants in the bathroom coming through the sink!!! This room was so dated with the tiled ceiling and looked like a retirement home!

We were going to spend 4 nights at this motel but ended up leaving just after one, that's how BAD the room was! We approached the owner of the motel early the next morning and explained we were leaving as we were disappointed with our room... the male owner was rude and arrogant and didn't even ask how he could make the room more comfortable for peoples stay, he just wasn't bothered!
We were kicking up a fuss about paying, as the room was $95 a night which I would say was far too over priced for such a room! He dropped the price to $80 which was ridiculous!!!! He even said he wanted us to pay $200 for the next day as we didnt say we wanted to leave in the morning! And told us we had signed the so called contract so had to pay him something!

I have seen way better accommodation such as The Quest in Napier, Kennedy park cabins and park side lodge!

I can see why they don't have any comments on their page!!!!
Just think before you book this place!!!

We stayed here recently and were very disapointed. The unit was not clean, the net curtains were silver instead of white, we stayed 4 nights and the only servicing the unit got was rubbish removal and towels on the couch with a roll of toilet paper on top each day, yet we paid the same price each night so would expect the unit to be serviced better, no dish washing liquid, iron didn't work. The rooms didn't have any smoke alarms, and the children's playground was a Worksafe NZ nightmare. On top of that in the 25 years we have been staying at motels I have never encountered an Owner/Manager so rude.

I know I rang rather late, which I apologised for, but I needed to find last minute accommodation for a work crew who had just come off a remote site and this was one of the few motels that still indicated rooms available in the Hawke's Bay area. The male manager replied, "we're closed" and slammed the phone down on me! I found somewhere else that was more than happy to help.

Response from Bunburybound, Owner at Frimley Lodge Motel
Responded 9 Mar 2015
My recollection of the conversation is slightly different. I did explain that we don’t offer a 24 hour reception service and that we are not always able to offer a late night check in, I certainly did not hang up on you.

Very poor hosts. Couldn't short out the booking which was paid for on Hotelsone website for nearly an hour. Keep telling me about their problems which I didn't need to know. Room had a very strong smell of smokers so bad I couldn't get a decent nights sleep. Office supposed to be open at 8am but no one around to take the key so left it in the room.Definitely not be returning.

A really great place to stay for a week, getting in / out of the motel was really easy, towards the centre of the city.
The room was really good, high pressure water which was good, Gas heated so never run out. Food courts not far away to get the fast food or the supermarket was also near by.
Room was nice and warm during the winter nights without any heaters going. Room was nicely supplied with the items needed for the stay.
Owner was very friendly and freely gave advise when asked a question or two.
Plenty of parking for the car as well.
Room rates were very reasonable.

It's ok to spend a night here as the room was clean, tidy with adequate amenities. It is quite an old fashion style of place. The beds were good with electric blankets and I slept well. A good choice to stay at as it is handy to the town.
