We had two nights at Millar Road and we were wow’d from the moment we walked into MR Villa 2. Amazing views over the vines to the sea. The villa is very well fitted out and it was a pleasure to have eggs and real bacon (not your average supermarket variety) provided for breakfast with a proper loaf of bread. It’s very convenient to many different wineries too

We usually spend hours vetting houses on internet before we book them for our holiday. Recently we have had some deeply painful family events and just needed to get away. We looked on Friday, booked on Saturday and flew on Sunday taking a massive risk on this property. I can honestly say it exceeded our expectations in all regards. The location is out of this world nestled in a working wine farm amongst rolling hills and a 180 degree view of the ocean. At night you see the beautiful lights of Havlock, Hastings and Napier.

The home itself is fantastically designed with rooms well away from the living and also giving our adult children their own space. It has everything you need and the wonderful owners (we met Ginny who is fantastically friendly) provide all the must haves for breakfast. Furniture and fittings are plush and bedding very clean and comfortable. Oh and did I mention the fireplace that we had going in the evenings and mornings. In brief, I cannot recommend this home more highly. Thanks for a fantastic stay Ginny and Gregory. It has helped revitalise our minds and hearts.

Hi Walter and Serena Danke sehr!! I hoffe dass Sie Deutsch sprechen!! Thank you so much for your kind words. It’s lovely when we hear stories like this about unexpected discoveries. And yes, Ginny is the ‘hostess with the mostest’! Sorry for our late response. This whole virus thing has been somewhat annoying to say the least. We very much look forward to seeing you next time. What a fantastic gem of a place! Everything we needed to get away from it all and totally unwind.

Gregory is the perfect host, very responsive and welcoming. He provided us with some great tips of places to visit and hike during our stay.

The villa (we had #1) is fabulous. Two large bedrooms, each with ensuite and a very large open plan kitchen/living room. There is also a free laundry on site.

The villa is stocked with all you need for a healthy breakfast and provides eco-friendly cleaning products.

The pool is wonderful and adds a ‘Hollywood’ luxury touch to the whole place.

The view is stunning from many sides, from the pool, the front patio, even the car park, it’s 360 degrees across the vineyards, farmland and Hawkes Bay.

OK, you do need wheels to stay here as you are 10 minutes from Havelock North and 15 minutes from Napier, but the peace & quiet you get is well worth it!

(Sigh…), we did not want to leave…

We had the pleasure of staying at Villa 1 Millar Road during Waitangi weekend. Millar Road is a self contained charming, chic boutique accommodation located up on a hill in Haumoana with stunning views of the sea and its very own vineyard. It has all the trappings of a hotel including a swimming pool and pool bar. In terms of location it is is close to many great vineyards such as Craggy Range, Church Road, Te Mata and Elephant Hill. It is also close to Havelock North and Te Mata Peak. We loved the little touches such as the breakfast provisions ( the most beautiful bread, eggs, bacon, local milk, yoghurt, fruit and marmalade). the natural cleaning and beauty products and the friendly hosts. The accomodation is self contained and kitted out lots of extras. The accomodation is new and everything feels sparkly clean. The linen and beds are very comfortable. We loved Villa 1 as it was set away from the other two houses. We travel extensively and have stayed at some beautiful hotels. Millar Road would now be at the top of our list.

My husband and I had such a wonderful stay at Millar Road and Gregory, the owner, was a real pleasure to get to know during our time there. The villa we stayed in was beautiful, with all the mod cons you would want for a comfortable stay, and more. The views from the villa are just stunning and we ended up cancelling most of our dinner reservations so that we could spend more time there. The villa's patio area and BBQ facilities are excellent and we really enjoyed having leisurely lunches and dinners there during our stay. The pool area is also a real bonus, although the weather was not quite warm enough for us to make the most of it. Millar Road is situated a short drive from towns like Havelock North, so it was easy to pick up groceries, etc, but at the same time we loved how secluded and private the location is.

We will definitely be returning to Millar Road and would highly recommend it to anyone planning a trip to the Hawke's Bay area.

We had the most fantastic stay at Millar Road over Christmas. Our hosts couldn’t have been more welcoming and friendly - they even arranged for a letter and present for our children from Father Christmas to be left for our arrival. Spotlessly clean accommodation, super comfy beds and delicious goodies left for breakfast. Great shared facilities - we all enjoyed several swims in the pool and there were a range of games in the pool cupboard. We would highly recommend staying in this luxurious property set in an absolutely beautiful location with stunning views of the vineyards and the sea. A wonderful stay that we will always remember.

We fell in love with New Zealand and have visited every year for the last ten years. Each time our final accommodating has been 6 or 7 nights at Millar Road. It is the way we treat ourselves; the cherry on top. This year was different and in certain respects was the best visit yet. We arrived when the lockdown from COVID hit and our 6 nights turned into close to three weeks. What a great place to be! We stayed in Villa 1 and were capitaved by the ever changing view, by watching summer turn into autumn , by the birdsong in the morning. There is something almost spititual about this setting. But the most special aspect of our stay was the gracious hospitality we received. Our age indicated that we should stay put and Gregory shopped for groceries on our behalf every four days. Ginny baked a couple of cakes for us. They both called regularly to make sure we were okay. We were absolutely touched by their caring nature and will forever be grateful to them.
Everything you read about the beauty of Millar Road is true. Beauty is more than skin deep.

Hi guys I’m sorry it’s taken so long to reply, but you know every time we read this review, Mum and I both cry. Finally the tears have cleared! And my gosh, we wouldn’t have had it any other way. It’s the least we could have done for you, given your support for us over the years. And it gave us a chance to get to know each other properly rather than the fleeting meetings in the past. And the work you did for us while you were here will be remembered forever. We can’t wait to see you back here. As a family, we wish you all the best and hope that you are getting back to some kind of normality. Cheers from the Collinge Whanau.

Spent three nights/four days in September 2023 for a family trip (five adults). Every aspect of the stay was as good as or better than advertised. The house was spotlessly clean, the beds very comfortable, the fire place was cozy and well provisioned with wood (Gregory was kind enough to clean and restock it each day). Little things like hand soap and bath salts were also top-notch.

The house itself is great and the location is amazing with unbeatable views of the the Hawkes Bay, vineyards, farm land and the ocean. You can literally walk from the lounge to the vines.

The infotainment system takes a moment to get used to, but works if you follow the instructions and Gregory is on hand to assist if (as we did) you get lost at first.

Gregory saw we had an EV and invited us to charge it onsite.

This was the best place we stayed at during our trip. Would love to stay again.

What am amazing place to spend time at in Hawkes Bay. Thank you Gregory for sharing your wonderful property with us. As a group of 10 we had exclusive use of the whole place. The accommodation is just stunning, with everything you need for a relaxing get away. Everything was high quality, from the furniture to the bedding to the absolutely stunning views.
You certainly won't be disappointed with a stay here. We are very much hoping to return in warmer months so we can make the most of the pool.
Gregory was also super helpful and accommodating with our every changing group numbers, so a big thank you for that also

Just wanted to say thanks to all at Millar Road for the wonderful hospitality last weekend - 9-13 March 2023.
The property worked perfectly for our extended family and we had a wonderful time.
We were a bit concerned about travelling up to the Hawkes Bay so soon after Gabrielle but found that the Bay is well and truly open for business. Our Aucklanders flew in and there were no issues with getting to the airport to pick them up.
Looking forward to the next time!

Helen, Wellington
