We were passing through Hastings and stayed for one night. Thought this one looked tidy and private from the road so stopped in. Great hosts, but we felt this was a very tired old motel which looked like nothing had been upgraded for 30 years. Even the bed seemed very tired. A little over priced for what it was unfortunately.

Hosts were very friendly and accommodating. Room was dated, cold and uninviting with breeze block walls and wind blowing in the gaps and the smell of past smoking was off putting- 1970,s panel heater and the stained carpet needs to go. Hole in the wall kitchenette was a first us and don't count on having much more than toast, a bowl of cereal and a cup of coffee in the studios. You have to wash dishes in the bathroom which is not really acceptable. Bed was on rollers so it moved around a lot. I guess in the end at $105 a night you get what you pay for.

Thanks for your review. We have an ongoing maintenance plan for our motel which was built in the 70's. We don't expect our guests to wash dishes in the bathroom and always take them to the motel kitchen when servicing the unit. We advertise tea & toast facilities only in our studios

Rooms are a good size and both room and bathroom are clean and tidy. The room is dated but for $120 a night that is not and issue. The hosts are helpful and friendly.

The only complaint would be that the rooms upstairs do not get dark because of the lights shining through the top of the arched roof. This was a little frustrating.

There were 9 of us in our 10pin bowling group and none of us had any issues with Elmore Lodge. We were in walking distance to the bowling centre, it’s a lovely short walk. There are shops which we used often, dairy, hell’s pizza, Chinese and fish shop, the food is great. If you keep walking past these shops there is the Coffee club and the luckiest lotto shop in NZ. I would recommend the Elmore Lodge to anyone, you get free laundry and able to hang your clothes on the line or in the dryer, not many places I’ve stayed at have that. The rooms are serviced every day, we stayed 7 days. Elmore is very clean the beds are excellent so comfortable, perfect. There is no air conditioning but there is a ceiling fan that is so much better, keep us cool at night. All the management and staff are very friendly giving us lots of information, thankyou, we will definitely stay there again.

The owners of this place are horrible and rude. Only like to be lovely to “certain” guests, otherwise you get spoken to like your dirt. They cant even handle matters over the phone, disgusting service. Travelled from Wairoa to be with family in hospital. Father booked a room for the night for us, when my partner and son went there they took the key off them and kicked them out. When i rung to discuss the matter the Female owner when i had said “my partner and son just got kicked out im calling to see why this wasnt handled better” all she did was yell and say “well they arent the guests” then left the phone. When i called again the Male owner answered and decided to be smug and say “so what do you want a room tonight or what”. Disgusting behaviour. I can understand that my partner isnt the guest on their system but it did not need to be handled like that. Just rude, ignorant people. But hei aha, look forward to your irrelevant response if you have one.

I was put in Room #1, feeling pretty tired after working in the field for more than 12 hours and driving long distances, on 19 Oct 2013. The room was dark. By the time I noticed how dirty the room was it was too late to find a new one. The carpet was very dirty and obviously not cleaned for days if not weeks; the sink faucets had scum around them, the soap dispenser and the soap container were dirty. The shower was dirty, the light switches have obviously not been cleaned for a long time. The string for the light switch was black with dirt. The bed linen seemed clean but I still had to lay my clean clothes on the bed to get some sleep. The room was not worth the $105.00. Perhaps one gets a better room if one Caucasian.

Stayed 3 nights after joining wife who was in Hastings on business. The room was clean enough and the bed comfortable but the furnishings and fittings are well past their useful life. The whole room is depressing and needs redecorating. The carpet was filthy and needs replacing. I appreciate that it cannot be shampooed every day and guests walk over it in outdoor shoes (we don't) but this carpet needs to go. My wife was given a date expired carton of milk for the room on check in. I don't know whether this milk was responsible for her subsequent upset stomach. I didn't have any of the milk and was fine. She finished the carton (before noticing the expired date) and spent most of the night in the toilet. Draw your own conclusions. Whilst Mr Nicol is a very pleasant man that was not the impression I had of Mrs Nicol who was brusque, curt and unsmiling when addressing my wife. I don't know whether the fact that my wife is Chinese had anything to do with Mrs Nicol's attitude. Wife charged $6.90 for making two short local phone calls from the room. Not worth $115 a night and definitely will never stay here again.

Had to stay here whilst in Hastings on business - would never stay here again! Only good point was that the guy who checked me in was quite friendly.

The room was cold, tired and grubby. The minimalist approach from the 1970s (or whenever the place was built) has not stood the test of time well. Bare breezeblock walls, shabby marked furniture and 'sticky' carpet put me off when I first arrived, and it went downhill from there.

The bathroom was a bit grubby (black ring of gunge around the plughole, damaged soap dispenser, bugs dead in the shower tray...).

The heater was pathetic - yes it was a very cold night but a small panel heater was never going to match the chill from the bare walls, with the gap under the door letting the cold air in.

The bed also wasn't great - a bit soft for my liking, but maybe would have been ok for others who like a softer bed. I was surprised at the sheets - my guess would be polycotton as they didn't feel like cotton.

There was a distinct lack of soundproofing between the rooms. That bare brick wall again... when the neighbour moved in next door I heard everything of their stay, from plugging their heater in, to their use of the loo, to their hacking of phlegm every few minutes. There was also a fair amount of traffic noise, as the motel is on the Omahu Road, which is busy all hours. Take earplugs would be my advice if you have to stay here.

Overall a miserable stay in a horrible, small, dated room. You can find far better locally - try somewhere else. Omahu Lodge is great and a world away from this motel in comfort, class and cleanliness/modernity.

Me and 2 other adults stayed in a unit with a bedroom. I found my bed fine but the others found the queen bed very hard and they didn't have a good night sleep during our stay. I was impressed with the service of the reception letting us check in after 9pm and the daily service for towels etc. One day the staff even washed our dishes which they didn't need to do.
Sadly though the motel really needed a freshen up decor wise. The shower head either needed a dip in CLR or renewing, as the shower spray was not very good.
I lost a SD card for my camera and while trying to find it a pair of someone elses socks were found under a bed and lots of foreign crumbs and fluff. The owner was going to recheck and see if the card turns up at the cleaning after I left. I hope it did but haven't heard from them yet. Internet, TV channels, fridge space and crockery supplies were good. A fan would have been nice and I'm sure they would have given us one if we had asked. Good value for money? Ok I think.

Thanks Jan & Bruce for another wonderful stay. I am always impressed by your level of service and how you go out of your way to make my stays enjoyable. I stay at many places and even if the rooms are 5 star, it doesn't count for much if the hosts don't give the service. You do. Keep it up.
