Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed in the separate cottage at Arcadia but enjoyed our breakfast in the main lodge. Greg and Peter were excellent hosts leading up to and during our stay- lots of helpful information about the area and things to do- even extending that to bookings on our behalf before we arrived. Peter’s breakfasts are legendary as per previous comments and we can only agree with that. Beautiful location, lovely accommodation - we stayed for three nights, but given the opportunity we would return for longer. Such a great place to relax. Thank you guys.

Acacia Lodge was our first B&B stop in Russel. Greg and Peter were the consummate hosts. Everything was perfect! Hospitality, advice, breakfasts on the deck, living like locals thanks to Greg's local knowledge and Peters culinary skills.

Our stay at Arcadia Lodge was wonderful! Greg and Peter are stellar hosts: welcoming, warm, helpful, gracious. They operate a first-rate inn, with comfortable rooms, deck, common room and gardens that create a feeling of home. The breakfasts are truly incredible - fresh ingredients, casual yet artistic presentation, and creative dishes. The hosts ensure you have good recommendations for restaurants, places to visit and interesting experiences. We've spoken with others who've also stayed at Arcadia Lodge, and their experiences mirror our own. Though we live very far away, we would welcome a reason to return!

We read about Arcadia Lodge as we were preparing for our visit to New Zealand & we’re fortunate to reserve their last available room for 4 nights in February 2024. From the very first communication with Greg & Peter we were pretty certain we had found a perfect spot to explore the north Island/ Russell, NZ. From suggestions for meals, activities, travel details, including links to all, communication was incredibly thorough. As we drove onto the Opua ferry, we alerted Arcadia of our arrival and within moments of driving into the car park, we were warmly greeted by Greg. Not only did he share details about our accommodations, he filled us in on the history of the house & early settlers, etc. and again suggested activities, places not to be missed. The house is beautifully & historically restored, with many modern conveniences, plus some quirky old house issues like whalebone to hold up the foundation. Our room was beautifully appointed, very sun filled , had a walk out to private deck area, adjacent to main deck where daily breakfast was served & spectacular views of the bay. Greg greeted us at 8am breakfast start and introduced us to all of the selections. Peter, the amazing chef, prepared a daily breakfast spread that included a cold station: fresh fruit, yogurt, homemade granolas, juices. Our first morning, we sadly filled up on this part & we were too full for the hot breakfast to follow. On our next morning, we limited the cold to allow for the hot & we’re rewarded with delicious eggs, then followed by homemade breads & jam, and fabulous coffee. The kitchen is made available to guests during their stay, including a selections of NZ wines for purchase, as well as other beverages & Peter’s freshly baked cookies - we had a few! Anything we needed or asked for during our stay, Greg & Peter were there/available to help. Their relationship with other hospitality providers in/around Russell was invaluable. Overall, Arcadia Lodge is elegant, yet comfortable, charming, welcoming and beautiful. We are so grateful for their generous hospitality and will definitely plan to visit again!

This was our third stay here, which shows how much we like it. We hadn't been for some years and in that time, the ownership had changed, so we were hoping that it was still as good. We weren't disappointed. The new owners, Greg and Peter have carried on the tradition of excellence and some. They have put a lot of thought into what they provide. Our room was very tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean, as is the whole B&B. What is nice is that guests are able to sit on the verandah (which has a stunning view of the bay), or in the sitting room and relax at any time of day. The doors are kept open and it is nice and cool to sit in on hot days - they make sure the doors are open and that there is a nice through breeze. Nothing seems too much trouble for Greg or Peter - they are there to greet you and are happy to recommend places to eat and things to do. Breakfasts are really lovely. On the sideboard is a feast for the eyes - yoghurt, fresh fruit, preserved fruit, cereals, all beautifully displayed. Each day, Peter cooks a lovely hot breakfast that is made with really fresh and tasty ingredients, is just the right size and different from the usual fare. On top of all this there are lovely local wines in the kitchen to purchase if you fancy a glass on the verandah and there are tea and coffee facilities and delicious home made cookies in a jar in there too. It was delightful to spend 5 nights there, which is longer than the average stay I would say, and see new guests arrive at breakfast each day and be blown away by it all. On our first morning, the British couple next to us sat down and exclaimed how idyllic it was - hence the title of this review!

We had a fantastic stay at this charming B&B in the lovely town of Russell. The location is about a 12 minute walk or 2 minute drive into the centre of Russell. It wouldn't really suit anyone with physical disabilities because the property is on a steep slope but that gives it wonderful views over the water. Greg & Peter are wonderful welcoming hosts with a wealth of local knowledge about things to do and places to eat. Peter's breakfast concoctions are delicious. The property itself is full of character and the rooms are comfortable, although our shower was a little snug. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay and would strongly recommend it

An idyllic place to stay in beautiful Russell. Our room had an amazing view of the bay and was comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was always delicious and slightly different each day as it was freshly cooked by Peter. Served on the veranda or inside in the elegant dining room, just perfect. Greg and Peter were great hosts, knowledgeable about things to do in the area and so welcoming. A stylish house with a glorious garden too

Perfect kind friendly & helpful hosts. Beautiful historic house and gardens. Great beds, linen, pillows, and bathroom products. Wonderful views from the deck. Ridiculously inexpensive local wine by the bottle. Easy short walk to town. Delicious homemade breakfast. Simple, classy design. Highly recommended. Stay here. PS Russell is awesome - be sure to dine at the Gables, & Hone’s Garden.
