Detailed Reviews
This is the perfect place for a couple to stay for a few nights. The space is small, tidy, clean and very quiet, but well-appointed with an ensuite bathroom and kitchen. The nature trail to the secluded beach is a gem (a few steps involved), this really is a lovely spot. Beautiful view of the bay from the deck. The sounds of the tui's and other birds (including the occasional kiwi) in the sub-tropical canopy was the highlight.
The host is very lovely, and we had everything we needed to make the stay perfect. Thank-you for a lovely stay.

We stayed for 3 nights at this lovely, secluded, peaceful setting. It is situated in a lush, semi-tropical rain forest. We awoke the first morning to a beautiful bird call. I was badly bitten by mosquitoes though (fortunately, New Zealand mosquitoes do not carry any diseases). By the time we left, I had over 25 mosquito bites and I was pretty miserable. There are bug screens on all of the windows but the bugs are still getting in easily from somewhere. Even though is it called "A Tranquil Place B&B," there is no breakfast provided (which was okay with us because we had our own breakfasts with us anyway). There is an adequate kitchen (in a room separate from the sitting area and bed) with a microwave, toaster, kettle and sink (I very much like not having to use the bathroom sink to wash dishes in) and there is sufficient kitchen ware and utensils. The bathroom is quite large and has a soaker tub with a good shower. There is no table but there is a bar with stools by a large window which looks out at all the lovely vegetation (although "A Tranquil Place" is very close to the beach, the thick vegetation obstructs any views of the beach). There is a reasonably sized flat screen TV but it carries very few channels (we were very disappointed when we could not watch the Men's Final Tennis Match at the 2018 Australian Open)! The place is very clean and well maintained; no worries there at all. There are two flights of narrow wooden stairs outside that must be negotiated getting to and from the suite which were no problem without luggage. The owner's partner kindly helped us down the stairs with our luggage when we arrived but it was tough getting it up all the stairs when we departed. There is a balcony outside the sliding glass doors of the sitting room which was lovely to sit on and admire the rain forest. There is a beautiful trail through the rain forest which we thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend from "A Tranquil Place" down to the small pebbly beach. The trail is approximately 10 to 15 minutes one way at a leisurely pace and is not too steep; my partner who has back issues and, thus, is not a hiker, managed it easily. "A Tranquil Place" is somewhat remote; it is approximately a 10 minute drive to the lovely and quaint town of Russell (a popular vacation place for New Zealanders themselves) and the gorgeous Bay of Islands from where we took a half day boat cruise. One would need a vehicle for transportation to and from A Tranquil Place and Russell. There are two marginal grocery stores in Russell; by "marginal," I mean that they weren't large but they had basic necessities.

We spent 2 weeks in the North Island over Christmas 2013 and A Tranquil Place B&B was a real highlight. We had originally planned 4 nights but after one night we extended it an extra night...it is a fabulous place and the name truly says it all. It is set on hill side, surrounded by lush NZ flora with a view to the water below. It is extremely quiet and private with a lovely bedroom, ensuite and kitchenette...TV and wifi if you want it but..my recommendation is to stay "unplugged". It is immaculate and the host is very welcoming. Others have spoken of the breakfast and it is wonderful with fresh baked goodies, fruit salad, toast, yogurt, egg (if you want)....I am getting hungry just thinking of it again! There are many other features to delight you, from the private deck (great for reading) amongst the ferns to my favourite the skylight over the bed so you can see the stars and if you're lucky catch a falling star like we did ! I really recommend anyone going to the Bay of Islands to stay here...it is also well located being 5 minutes out of Russell and 5 minutes from the ferry to Pahia. Not many places I would go back to but this is one.....

We booked 2 nights here, for our final stay in NZ. So glad we did! The room was clean, quiet, wifi and tv in room, and very friendly owner.
The beaches and town are about 10 min drive - so everything is close by.
We booked our room from expedia, so breakfast was not included for us.
The only cons: uncomfy bed (we kept sinking into the middle), and lots of bugs in the room. The location of home is very tropical (lots of plants, trees, birds...), so you can't really avoid the bugs. We found ants and mosquitos in our room even though we kept the windows and doors closed...

We stayed here for two nights. Place was spic and span. Very friendly host having good knowledge about the area in and out. Breakfast was served with different cereals, breads, cheese and accompanied by a fruit platter a healthy breakfast indeed.
Room has all essential facilities - free wifi, kitchen with all appliances, no laundry but the host was kind enough to do the laundry for us.
A wonderful place to spend with scenic views and beautiful sounds of the birds nearby. Its a very quiet place took us time to adjust to the scary silence. But once we got used to it we felt totally at peace.

We stayed at A Tranquil place for 3 nights. The room was spotless and comfortable. The service and breakfasts were both of the highest quality, and the grounds and view were absolutely stunning. A wonderful place to get away and relax - we came away feeling totally at peace and refreshed. I would recommend it to anyone.

We stayed at A Tranquil Place B&B over Easter 2013. Driving in the dark, we found it quite difficult to find because the signposting is not easy to see, but we got there in the end and we were greeted by the lovely hostess who was very accommodating. The room itself was absolutely spotless - she obviously takes great pride in her business and this shows. In the morning we were treated to the most spectacular breakfast which was my favorite part of staying there. I rate it 4/5 - the only reason I didn't give it full marks it because you are forced to stay 2 nights minimum and secondly it's bloody expensive! If you have a bit some spare cash then I absolutely recommend staying here,
