We had a wonderful stay at Pukematu Lodge, the location is toward the top of Flagstaff Hill and has beautiful views across the bay. Our suite was beautifully appointed with everything we should need, it opened out on to the deck where we enjoyed the most amazing sunrises and sunsets. Colwyn is a great host and Janna took very good care of us. So happy we choose to stay at Russell rather than Paihia.

The lodge is situated nicely above Russell with great views towards Russell and Long Beach. The rooms are spacious, equipped with top quality bathrooms and decorated with beautiful Maori artifacts. The breakfasts consist of fresh produce and little treats are offered for afternoon tea, which can be enjoyed on the terrace. Kerry and Colwyn offer many suggestions for recreational activities. Thanks for a very special and personal experience. Matt and Gabe

We have stayed at the lodge for the past 14 years that we have been going to New Zealand. That should tell you how good it is. Colwyn and Kerry are great hosts, very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is a feast. The lodge is very comfortable and the views are spectacular. The town of Russell, the beach and several good restaurants are a few hundred yards down the hill from the lodge. We love being there and are already planning our 2016 trip. Bob and Mavis

My husband and I stayed at Pukematu for 3 nights in late January 2015. This lodge is perched on a hill overlooking Russell township & the eastern part of the Bay of Islands. We spent ages out on the huge decks drinking in the busy harbour with its myriad of boats from small local boats popping out fishing, to huge super yachts. The lodge itself is beautifully decorated & has many pieces of local art. Our very spacious room with en suite was very tastefully furnished & we were extremely comfortable - the king sized bed was more comfortable than our one at home (a comfortable bed is an absolute must for us) & the lodge is so quiet that we slept like babies. Breakfasts were delicious with the choice of muesli, cereals, porridge, fresh fruit & yoghurt, or bacon & eggs any way we chose. Colwyn & Kerry's local knowledge was deep & profound. They took us on a fishing charter which was throughly enjoyable with a gourmet picnic lunch at a beautiful Island, & they cooked the snapper we caught for our evening meal - superb fresh food. We absolutely loved our time in Russell & definitely will return. We thoroughly recommend Pukematu as a wonderful place to stay, thank you Kerry & Colwyn - You can be sure of these guests returning.

We stayed for 4 nights in March 2014. It's difficult to find the superlatives to do this place justice: location, views, accommodation, food and hospitality and service were simply wonderful. Russel is a lovely place and from there we vistied Pahia, The Waitangi Treaty grounds, Cape Rianga and took a Bay of Islands cruise to the Cape Brett Hole in the Rock. We would certainly stay there again just for the experience and to see the Weka by day and hear the Kiwi's in the grounds at night!

We spent two wonderful nights in this lovely home high above Russell. The rooms was impeccable, the deck was inviting and comfortable and the hostess was so gracious. She not only offered us a fantastic breakfast but also filled us in on some local history about the Maori people. We left feeling very pampered!

We couldn't have been happier with our stay at Pukematu Lodge. The owners are genuinely nice people and the perfect hosts. Every aspect of the lodge was wonderful including the stunning views, delicious breakfast, a beautiful deck, and very comfortable rooms. Some rainy weather forced us inside one afternoon and the common room was first class all the way. Pukematu Lodge was the perfect ending to our two week tour of New Zealand.

The plan was for the four of us to end our 4 week tour of the islands with a relaxing 4 night stay somewhere nice. This place exceeded our expectations and I would endorse the other 5 star comments which say it all. Almost 360 degrees of views around the Bay of Islands, a wonderful patio decking area, superb rooms, wonderful decoration, free wifi (yeah!) lots of attention to detail and little treats to make your stay wonderful, Colwyn and Kerry's friendly and warm hospitality and advice- and as for the breakfasts - wow! We were there to chill after a lot of touring and driving and we succeeded. Wonderful!
