Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a very cute hotel in a charming town.. the location is great as it is right on the boardwalk and a short walk to the pier, restaurants and shops. The rooms facing the water have a gorgeous view but we had a room on the side so that was a bit disappointing. We had a small living room, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, eating area and patio. Although we enjoyed our stay, I would recommend that the mattresses get replaced as they were too soft (the pullout sofa was awful). In the summer, I would also recommend having two fans (one for the bedroom and one for the living room) . The housekeeping is much more complicated than it needs to be. When I am on vacation I don’t want to read several rules about housekeeping and then remember to submit lists to the office before it closes. I understand that there may not be the staff for full housekeeping so then just come around each day with fresh towels and top up any amenities that have been used.

Well we arrived in one of the earths mortal paradises that is Russell, 2 days ago.
Fortunately for us we booked Hannui Lodge ran by Nev and Cecelia, two absolutely wonderful people who cannot do enough for you.
This is our first time in New Zealand and we wanted to come to one of the most historic places in the country and it doesn’t get more historic than the “Hell Hole” of the pacific (Do your research folks) !
We spent a few days in underwhelming downtown Auckland, loved Devonport,Waiheke Island and Ponsonby but they don’t get close to Russell or the accommodation afforded by Hannui.
A path to the beach and a walk down the strand to superb restaurants and bars, your in the middle of everything stepping out of your room.
We absolutely loved it here and really appreciated Nev and Cecelia, great down to earth people 👍

Friendly and welcoming, Nev and Celina are the loveliest of hosts.

Whether giving advice on local attractions and restaurants or our onward journey through NZ, they were happy to share their knowledge with us.

The room was spotless and very comfortable.

Our view took in the sunsets which capped off each day with its own unique blend of colours.

We cannot recommend Hananui Lodge and Nev and Celina enough and look forward to the day that we get to visit them again.

Others have rightly praised the location, the view, the spaciousness, the really comfy bed and much more. The unit is particularly well equipped for some self catering, and the bathroom well supplied. The communications prior to our arrival were helpful and friendly and all flexibility shown, especially when it looked as if Covid Lockdowns might have caused a problem.
As I say, why go anywhere else - we were really happy to have stayed there.

We require a wheelchair accessible room which was provided.

There were no adequate ramps for either entrance which meant that assistance was required to enter and exit the room. Also, the shower chair provided was not really suitable.

The location was good and it was particularly nice to be able to sit outside the room in the provided chairs and table.

The picture on the Television can only be described as shocking. In this day of high speed internet and smart televisions, this is not really acceptable.

Thanks for your stay Alan, we will look at our ramp situation. We are also in the process of updating our TVs to smart TVs, with over half our motel done, but unfortunately we have left our cheapest rooms til last, one of which is yours. We expected to have more done by now but Covid has certainly made us review our expenditure significantly.

This place was comfortable well organised and well equipped. An absolutely lovely location. Great hosts and we were self contained. We kayaked around and particularly appreciated the underground parking for secure storage when not in the water.

The room stank of burnt food and we noticed that the key given could open multiple doors, security is an issue! Upon arrival, we had to walk down a dingy alleyway to gain access to the room. The map of the lodge showed that we were beachfront but instead the room was across the road. The staff were abrupt at first and extremely rude in the end. They charged us a cleaning fee of $200 because we had a few cigarettes on the balcony. They discriminate against smokers and motorcyclists. Highly recommend looking at different accommodation.

This review is malicious and contains many falsehoods, deliberately designed to get back at us. The guest is upset because they were indeed charged for extra cleaning and closure of the room that we had to undertake after they ignored our policies. The facts obtained across two phone calls with the guest are as follows: The room did smell strongly of stale smoke, and needed to be deep cleaned and was therefore off the market for three nights. They had three smoking sessions on our balcony, despite our policies not allowing smoking in or around our buildings. They had four chances to read our policies before stepping foot into the room (when making the booking, in the confirmation email and when they signed their name to indicate that they accept our policies) then in the room compendium, but deliberately chose not to read them. They left happy, and we only heard of their 'issues' when they gave us a chance to refund the $200 lest they publish this same review across many different platforms. Their point of view is very skewed by their reaction to their own ignorance, and we stand by our reputation as per our other tripadvisor reviews. Please note that the key only opens their own Apartment and the exterior door that is required to access the building.

Comfortable , well situated accommodation . We stayed in ground floor Unit 5 which is waterfront with good sea views of the pretty bay and its everchanging vista of boats . The unit was well appointed and immaculately clean . Hananui is well located relative to restaurants, cafes, shops and supermarket yet is a very restful environment . Our hosts were friendly and helpful, yet unobtrusive . We enjoyed our stay here and hope to return in the summer to stay, including doing their fishing charter.

For location, you couldn't beat it, a few steps to the seashore, very close to all amenities and many restaurants so that you could have a drink and not take the car. However the actual accommodation we chose was the Boathouse attached to the apartments. Lovely comfy bed and exceptionally clean but too small to stay more than a couple of nights. It had a nice deck and if weather is good is lovely to sit out on and watch the world go by. Kitchenette was very small and very small table and chairs, with no real comfy chair to sit on. I would chose another apartment in the same complex if I returned there. Boathouse is not suitable for disabled guests but clean and tidy.

This is an amazing place to stay. The rooms are extremely clean and our bed was so comfortable. From the moment we got there we felt looked after and the owners were so accommodating. The location was everything we hoped for and more, you really don't need a car as everything you need is right outside the door. Cannot wait for our next holiday there.
