Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Rightly, the region here in dr Bay of Islands is considered the most beautiful in the North Island. And here we have found a wonderful accommodation that makes us feel like in paradise.
A great location, beautiful accommodation, a loving hostess and a great breakfast made our stay more than pleasant.
Unfortunately we could only stay for one night!

We stayed with Gary and Paula for three nights at the beginning of our visit to NZ from the UK. They are a charming and helpful couple who made us feel like family friends from day one, even greeting us with tea and cake! The property is built on a slope, with a great deal of privacy and lovely views of the bay. Our apartment had a separate bedroom, living room, a fully equipped kitchen, private (though small) bathroom, a beautiful veranda with stunning views and a lovely, home-made breakfast was included. The town of Russell is walk-able (just) along the coast, but a car is essential as the home-stay is in quite a rural (although gorgeous) location. Overall good value for money with charming and hospitable owners.

This lovely property has stunning views over the bay from the terraces. A great place to watch the sun go down, glass of excellent local wine in hand. Delicious breakfasts and faultless, friendly hospitality from Gary & Paula. Lots to do nearby, especailly if you like walking (aka 'tramping') and boat trips.

My wife and I were doing the north region as part of our honeymoon. Gary and Paula made their place an excellent spot to dwell and use as a hub for all activities in the area. Price is excellent and breakfast is superb (you'll barely need to have lunch).
The place is very well equipped and they upgraded us to the self contained apartment for free.
The view to the bay is amazing and we managed to do everything around the area despite the bad weather. Gary can also arrange for fishing, kayaking and sailing around the bay of islands. Walk down to the bay down the house and even see some glow worms!
Do consider the need to take the vehicle ferry (also needed to reach the MUST town of Russell), it's a 10min ride but each one way crossing is $11NZD. Even so, everything before the ferry would not be worth it.

Gary and Paula helped to make our dream holiday in New Zealand with a warm welcome, good company, a comfortable ensuite bedroom, our own relaxing conservatory, wonderful views of the bay and delicious breakfasts with fresh fruit and scrummy egg dishes.
The house sits in a beautiful and interesting garden with an intriguing maze of pathways leading down to the beach, perfect for a stroll in the sunshine. I was also inspired by the beautiful artwork that decorated Pipiroa, especially the handmade quilts.
Bed and breakfast is definitely the best way by which to experience the true character of the country and Pipiroa Homestay is one of the best examples.

Two couples so we were in the apartment downstairs. All clean and everything we needed. We certainly enjoyed our meals on our deck with the stunning views of the little bay. Host booked the Cream trip for us which was great and we had a lovely three nights here. Gardens down to the little bay are splendid and obviously a labour of love.

I had a ensuite room and a lounge attached to it, with a view on the sea. Superb views.
Breakfast was taken on a balcony, with my hosts, facing the sea- having breakfast in front of the sea, in the sun, felt like a dream... Considering how wet it is back home!
The breakfast was great, and Paula even cooked for me a savory breakfast because I do not really go for sweet things. How nice of her!
We had nice discussions and put the world to rights!... What a pleasure...

My husband and I stayed in the B & B at Pipiroa last year and we would agree with all the previous comments. Arriving in the afternoon we were greeted with tea and home-made cake on the terrace and really made to feel welcome. The garden down to the bay is amazing with lots of little pathways and interesting plants. Paula's breakfasts on the terrace were excellent, something different each of the three days we were there. On our final evening we had a delicious dinner with Paula and Gary. As I mentioned in their visitor book, it felt more like dinner with friends than as paying guests. A really lovely place to stay.

The apartment is situated on a lovely quiet bay. Gary's garden down to the beach is beautiful. There is a wonderful hike you can do into the Russell townsite that is about 7 k away. Great place to relax and enjoy the sea.
