Ambleside Luxury Bed & Breakfast is conveniently located on SH6, minutes from the airport (although not under the flight path), close to the Nelson Golf course and Tahunanui, our beautiful safe swimming beach, fabulous restaurants, a few minutes to the CBD, and only 45 minutes drive to the stunning Abel Tasman Park.Ambleside B&B is a purpose-built B&B, built in 2003, and in keeping with the character of the 1936 bungalow. The guest wing is located at the rear of the property and provides a peaceful and quiet ambience. FREE FAST WIRELESS INTERNET is available everywhere on the property. Guests have own carpark, own entrance and each of the FOUR GUEST ROOMS has its own ensuite bathroom, one with a large bathroom with disabled facilities. All luxury amenities, beautiful linens and toiletries are provided. The guest lounge provides a relaxing place to check emails, plan activities and itineraries from the extensive brochure display, watch a movie or just chat with other travellers whilst enjoying a glass of local Nelson wine. Breakfast is extra special - and we are humbled by the fact guests often note in the guest-book it is the best they have had in the country!! Choose from our extensive menu - gourmet, cooked and continental - we also provide gluten-free options and dairy free - then enjoy it in the courtyard in the surrounds of the beautiful garden alongside the stream - the gently flowing water providing an extra special ambience. Outdoor seating areas, and the spa pool provide all-day comfort for those just wanting to relax and take in the beautiful Nelson climate and scenery. Built on the level, there are no steps or stairs to negotiate, but there are still beautiful views of the hills and mountains and the sea is only 20 minutes walk away.Everything you need is here to make your stay extra special with every comfort provided to ensure your stay is typically a memorable kiwi experience. Hosts, Janine and Peter are accompanied by their little West Highland Terrier, Billie, who although loves to hang out with her guests, does not require a lap to sit on, or even a pat, but she does love to pose for your camera!!

The room was comfortable; the bathroom was spacious; the breakfast choice was large, but Ambleside deserves a 5-star rating for the service provided by Peter and his family which was amazing. Nothing was too much trouble for our friendly hosts. Highly recommended.

Imagine flying halfway around the globe to a place you've never been before and instantly feeling at home—without having to do any of the cleaning, cooking, or yard maintenance. Welcome to Ambleside! From the moment we pulled into Peter and Janine's driveway at 9pm and were greeted at our car by the gregarious (and barefoot) Peter, we knew we'd made the right choice for our stay in Nelson. What we didn't know was that Peter and Janine would quickly come to feel like old friends—exceptionally welcoming, authentically warm, and 2 of the most hospitable people we've ever visited while traveling. Their home is immaculate and very comfortable (thanks, too, to neighbor Rachel for her excellent and friendly service), located within walking distance of the beach or slightly longer walking distance (~45 minutes) to downtown Nelson—or, you can catch the local bus downtown from right across the street. Don't miss the inspiring and outrageous WOW (World of Wearable Art) Museum only 5 minutes from Ambleside, either. Peter is a phenomenal cook, carefully preparing each morning's delicious, made-to-order breakfast and serving it up with good humor; each evening, he poured us a glass of wine or juice like we were guests at a 5-star hotel. Not surprisingly, this homey atmosphere inspired guests to spend evening time together on the back patio, where we met people from Germany, Denmark, Britain, and China over the course of our visit. We'd originally planned to stay at Ambleside for 3 nights, but were fortunately able to add a fourth when a cyclone cut our wonderful trip to Abel Tasman a day short; Peter and Janine graciously stored our bags for us while we were away and had them waiting for us in our room when we returned. We highly recommend Ambleside to fellow travelers—and Peter and Janine, we hope to see you again in the future!

Absolutely the best I’ve stayed in. Peter and Janine are so welcoming,, and made us feel part if the family. Their dog Frankie is adorable, unfortunately is not aloud to come sleep on your bed...lol Peter cooks a delicious breakfast, lots to choose from, plus they catered to my Gluten allergy. Very comfortable bed and nice size rooms. Would definitely go back.
