Don't be tempted by the price and stay here, found it less than clean and other guests played music late into the night and when mentioned to managers they were aggressive and when I asked other guests to be considerate they told me to F off.
This place is an old colonial wooden house done up really nicely as a very nice backpackers, with a large modern concrete extension out the back with tons of rooms of all sizes, a bit like a hotel. Due to COVID 19 their international clientele dwindled, and in order to survive it seems they changed their business model to something more like a boarding-house with semi-permanent young residents. Consequently the shared kitchen was a bit grubby and had notices asking the youngsters to clean up after themselves (which seemed ineffective). The family room looking out the front as advertised on the website was permanently let out and we ended up in a family room in the concrete extension. The beds were very comfy, but the room felt a bit confined. The way it is presented on their own website and other online portals does not reflect this recent change. If you don't mind stranded youngsters hanging around and smoking in the outside area, then this is a good place.…
The Inbetween is a combination of a stylish late 19th C two storey street front villa and a modern extension that runs back from the original house. Both are comfortable, well maintained and clean. Staff are helpful and friendly. I have stayed here twice and recommend the Inbetween for its inner city location, comfort, and friendliness. Hugh Forsyth
It's a disgusting, filthy backpackers. Nothing like the photos which are 5 years old! So run down, dirty and smells really musty. The carpets are so yucky with hundred of hairs, ghastly stains, even a cat permanently lives in kitchen and I saw it chase a mouse in the kitchen, which was going through the food left on open shelving. The beds in the dorms are rock hard, cramped and the bunk beds offer no privacy. No ventilation and very noisy guests talking constantly and banging doors through the night. No sleep possible. The manager was so rude. I shared a complaint of my disappointment and he said 'I don't give a sh-t and I'm willing to refund you and you can go somewhere else'. The guy is a disgrace and no way should be in this role or any backpacker business full stop. The receptionist even does his stretching exercises outside guests' room in the hallway blocking entrances and exits! She is unable to communicate effectively and is more interested in her own well-being and yoga than attending to guests' needs. At one point she was overheard calling out loudly to a cleaning person who said he found a used condom in a queen bed. The reception loudly replied for other guests to hear "It's very common to find condoms in the beds!' I got bitten by bed bugs for several nights and the staff did nothing. The cleaning staff consisting of two long-termers, are not qualified to clean rooms, and they are overwhelmed. The showers and toilets are never cleaned, and surfaces are left dirty for several days before finally wiped. Sinks are left with hairs and the kitchen is never mopped. Cleaners and staff just enter your room without any notice and invade your privacy. Two people entered my room and looked around when I wasn't there and nosed around. The staff just walk in on you and even stay in your room after you have come back from a shower and they won't leave, they totally invade your privacy. I'll never return!…
If you are a no frills traveller and don’t mind a shared bathroom down the hall, InnBetween is a great place to stay! My friend and I stayed in 2 bed (bunkbed) room on second floor ( by the balcony) and found the stay to be quite nice!) we found it clean and the people to be very friendly - little breakfast food in main dining area and met a lot of interesting travelers! The place is within short walking distance of shops and restaurants! Parking can be a little tricky but we figured it out! Highly recommend!
Not a good place to stay. No proper ventilation in rooms and not clean. Owner will keep the deposit, will not return and top of it will charge more for non existent services and stuff. Will not explain what they are charging for. I was there for one week, they charged 180x4 =$ 720. When leaving the place without returning the bond( which he forced me to pay even when i said its short term) they have billed $400 and the receptionist saying casually that they happy not to charge that amount from me!! I was barely staying there, working every day! Will file a police against them. Dishonest owner, very cunning man. Be careful.
I want to thank you all! the owner Wayne, Bradley, Rosie, Valentino, Hugo, Max and the rest of the staff of InnBetween for an amazing stay. Clean, fun, seriously friendly. You are all stars! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Ps... Wayne you make killer porridge! Yummy 😋
I stayed in the 6 bed female dorm on my way to & from the Abel Tasman Walk, such a nice place to stay. Lovely ambience, thoughtful & tidy facilities, friendly & competent service, so close to all amenities.
Really good value for Central Nelson. Right next to cathedral. Quiet. Easy parking (this is a big issue in other places). We stayed in family room. Very nice. Good bathrooms. Nice spaces provided for relaxation including balconies, lounge.
A top central location in Nelson but at the same time in a very quite street, just next to the beautiful Christ Church cathedral park. Non metered street parking available. The backpackers is a very clean and comfy place, and we enjoyed a very nice ensuite double room. Well equiped kitchen and laundry. And at last but not at least such a great welcoming anf helpful team! Many thanks, we will be back, no doubt!
