Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed one night in two bedroom unit but it would have been nice to stay longer. It was very spacious and clean. Staff was friendly. Many good restaurant choices within close driving distance. We especially liked Nysa a Turkish restaurant!f

We booked through an intermediary, travel company, six months prior to arriving and were placed in the worst single unit on the property. That alone should ring alarm bells to anyone. If you’re part of a bus tour group, they will do anything and everything for you. As for the rest of us good luck.

This is the worst 4-star hotel I have experienced.. Our cell (sorry room) was dark and depressing. The en suite was more Back packer standard. No shower curtain - reception said none were available. How do you shower without a curtain - answer - flood the bathroom. The bath surround was filthy. The door needed painting. The handle over the bath was falling off the wall. DO NOT STAY AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT

Nothing major but felt like death by 1000 mean cuts. Everything was super basic & budget. Fine for a crash pad overnight but an overall underwhelming experience. For us, staying in a hotel is a treat, not something we do very often. We weren’t expecting the royal treatment, but for $250/night I was expecting a few more basics on offer. We were welcomed by a huge dead spider on floor when we arrived (fine, what-evs). Internet didn’t work. Staff had no clue how to remedy it. Were told many customers had complained, management had been informed but nothing done about it. Major inconvenience, especially when trying to research travel details for our onward travels. The wifi DID work in the vicinity of reception (you might get lucky with a room close to the router) but was an unsecured network therefore susceptible if logging into eg. bank accounts etc. The free gym advertised on their website no longer existed. Half of the light bulbs had blown in the kitchen so was like cooking in a cave. Likewise with lighting in the lounge. We decided the BBQ was the better option. We were instructed to clean the BBQ after use (sweet as) but provided with 6 paper serviettes for the job (crikey). Good luck at dinner time. 4 of us were staying in a 2 bedroom apartment but only 3 chairs were provided, the dining table had space for only 2 people (2 more I guess if you ate at the writing desk). Same again with the outside dining table (room for 2 only). Breakfast bar, but no chairs. Oh, & don’t bother with the microwave, the plate doesn’t spin with anything heavier than a grain of rice grain. The bedroom with 2 single beds had no bedside table, lamp, stool, nudda. Just 2 beds in an empty room with blazing lightbulbs (bonus they worked I guess). The master had a bedside table and lamp on one side only (just felt mean). We paper, scissor, rocked it to see who scored the lamp! The info sheet in the room was full of info about the traffic light system, mask wearing & sanitising rules (from the times of covid) - clearly not updated in a while. Plus side: The space was huge and clean (excluding mega sized dead spider) The pool Close proximity to the city Parking provided However, we won’t rush back.

Was great. Very good value considering the time of the year (we did book well in advance may have helped). Room had everything we needed. Reception service was good and friendly. Pool is heated. Didn’t have dinner.. it did have coffee and desert in the restaurant and the apple and pear crumble was excellent! Loved it. Very happy.

Friendly welcome and exterior of hotel fine. However, room 67 is very tired (eg worn carpets and electric blanket that was last PAT tested in 2016 ) and poorly laid out. No bedside tables, double beds pushed right against wall and no bedside power outlets. One bed also had no light switches accessible. The room also overlooked industrial bins and vats of used cooking oil. We were also expected to share our room with cockroaches. Needless to say we did not stay.

Loved our stay at Hotel Nelson. The room was very comfortable and it was convenient to have the kitchenette available. The staff was very helpful, moving our baby cot from room to room for babysitting. The restaurant on premises was good, but not open for lunch. There were a dairy and bakery within walking distance.

I just wanted to say, that while we ended up not needing the room booked, the staff here went out of their way to accommodate special circumstances. Nelson was preparing for another flood, my Dad was undergoing his first chemo cycle for cancer treatment; they held a room for us in case I couldn't get Dad home, and wasn't able to reach Mum. We were able to cancel to suit. The times we've had dinner at the hotel's restaurant Flames on Forty, I couldn't spoken highly enough of the great, honest service. And the food! You guys are head and shoulders above many, many places. Thank you so much. Ngā mihi nui.
