Wayne and Val are exceptional hosts. Friendly and attentive, but also knew when to give us our own space.
The bedroom was spacious, clean and comfortable. Having two chairs, and a table in the room was wonderful. Robes were provided, a great selection of teas and coffees available and a small fridge to store our own food was appreciated.
The ensuite bathroom had toiletries, hair dryer, spa bath.
A visitors lounge was available with complimentary Port and Sherry!
The breakfasts were wonderful. No worry of going hungry here! Wayne cooked different breakfasts for us every day.
Outside the house there were chairs to sit on and sun loungers on the lawn.
The house is really well located - an easy walk to the town centre and yet on a very quiet road, so no traffic noise. It also had a lovely view of the surrounding hills from the dining room.

We had a lovely stay at Shelbourne Villa. Breakfast included a selection of cereals, fruits, bread for toasting with jam and marmalade, as well as a cooked option. The room was a good size and well appointed. Val and Wayne were excellent hosts, very friendly and helpful. The location of the property made for a convenient walk into the city centre, and it was easy to navigate out of the city by car. Parking was available on site.

We stayed here for one night in the Master Suite. This comprised a large master bedroom and ensuite. Both were beautifully appointed with furniture befitting the period style of the house . The bed was large and very comfortable and the room was bright with lovely bay windows affording a view over the centre of Nelson. Shelbourne villa is situated in a quiet street but very close to the city centre with a only a few minutes walk to restaurants and cafes via the beautiful gardens that surround the Catholic church. Breakfast was also very good . The owners , rightly , take a great deal of pride in the standard of accommodation they provide and we will certainly stay here again on our next visit to this lovely part of the South island of New Zealand.

We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely old historic villa with friendly hosts Val and Wayne. The room and bathroom was spotlessly clean and many extras were added for our convenience.
Situated close to CBD meant an easy 5 minute walk for shopping or evening dining out, yet we were tucked away from the rush and bustle in very quiet surroundings.
Breakfast was very generous and provided a great variety of foods to choose from.
Very happy to recommend this accomodation.

We had a lovely couple of days with Val & Wayne at the start of February. Nothing is too much trouble for them, and they make it feel like it’s your home too. You can go into the kitchen for ice etc whenever you want. There is a lovely guest lounge with plenty of books, games, iPad and more. Breakfast is cooked fresh when you’ve had chance to enjoy the fresh fruit and/or cereal and gives you chance to chat to the other guests. They are so helpful with anything you want to do or know. A wonderful stay

We were welcomed by Wayne who was exemplary in his descriptions and welcome both to his home and to Nelson. There was a single cooked breakfast option, which changed daily. Wayne did the cooking and Val his wife, did the serving. They had the fastest Wi-fi we’ve experienced so far in New Zealand. Well done! The bed was very comfortable and the en suite bathroom was clean with an array of toiletries.

We last visited the Shelbourne Villa 7 years ago. I cannot believe it has been so long since we last went to Nelson. I called to see if Wayne and Val were still running the business and was pleasantly surprised (post covid) that all was well.
The house was still in pristine condition and the rooms and bed were comfortable. Wayne showed us the controls for the central heating so we were able to control the heating to ensure we were comfortable at all times.
We were visiting Nelson for a few days on a road trip and Wayne was able to accommodate both ourselves and our friends for two nights.
I was so proud to have recommended Wayne and Val to our friends as they were true to form and were the perfect hosts. The breakfast was spectacular as usual and their attention to our needs was exemplary.
There is also a guest lounge where we spent afternoons and evenings watching Netflix videos, playing games and enjoying a wine and nibbles. So much better than a motel where you are thrown out for the day. It was like home away from home.
This was the weekend in mid July where Nelson and the West coast was decimated with intense rain causing flooding and rock falls. As a result our return journey to Christchurch was delayed due to the many road closures. Wayne and Val were able to juggle their bookings to keep us on for an extra night if we needed it. Even though SH1 did open up on the Sunday afternoon we chose to stay for a third night.
Once we had returned home we realized my wife's orthopedic pillow had been left behind. Lo and behold Wayne was already onto it and had sent an email offering to bring it down to Christchurch later that week.
Nothing was too much trouble.
For anyone travelling to Nelson this is without doubt the best place to stay.

We received fantastic hospitality from the owners and found the facilities as expected. Would definitely stay again. The property is centrally located and within easy walk to town. Breakfast was a highlight with fresh yogurt, fruit and a selection of cereal alongside toast and jam.

What a lovely place to stay. Everything was immaculate. The bed was great and there were extra pillows already in the room.Val and Wayne were charming host's.We were very tired when we arrived and Val was so kind. Having been in motels for the previous 6 nights shelbuorne villa was a refreshing and peaceful change. My husband looked somewhat surprised when we arrived as we have never stayed in a b&b together in 20 years. When we left he suggested we should start staying in this type of thing more often. That says it all really.

This has to be the best B& B we have stayed at in New Zealand so far.
The accommodation has so much character it is in a fabulous location and our hosts Val and Wayne were just exceptional. Our breakfasts were top class too, it was as good as if not better than any restaurant could offer.
Val and Wayne obviously enjoy what they do and it shows.
We would love to return and are more than happy to recommend them to friends and family.
