On arrival we were astounded by the beauty of the Rutherford Hotel, everything about it was fabulous ... service, decor just luxury from the moment you enter the building. Wish we had spent more that one night there but we had pre booked other accommodation so we couldn't change out plans. Would love to go back and stay longer next time. The dining room was booked out so we didn't get to experience their service, there are lots of great restaurants in town and we were able to have a delightful meal. Its a lovely town and well worth staying a few days. We fully recommend this Hotel its Grand and beautiful.
I stayed here for one saturday night in June 2006. I paid $89 NZD (from a last minute booking site) for a standard room... and was upgraded to a superior room (I didn't ask, and they didn't tell me, I found out when I entered the room!) Like most New Zealand hotels, breakfast was not included. One the updside... possibly the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in... two very comfortable quilts on a king size bed, plus the same bedding on a king single bed. Plenty of space. Modern renovated room. The room had two items of 'Hoglund art glass' - Hoglund is an expensive (and very nice) Nelson glass blowing/sculpture studio. Very nice touch. The staff were friendly and helpful. On the downside... the water pressure in the bathroom was disappointing. The bath took ages to fill,…
Attractive mid-rise in best location, facing park and short walk to cafes, art shops, etc. Part of a well established chain but that wasn't a negative factor at all. We only had a 24 hour stay - wish it had been longer. Both the city, area (lots of glass artisans!) and hotel warrant it! Dinner choices close by were a little limited that night.
The Rutherford is a very nice hotel...room service was yummy, and the staff helpful. I went with a standard room and until they redo these I might spend the extra for the executive if possible. Looks like the decor was from the 1970's, but I was on a budget so I made that call and got what I paid for. Otherwise outstanding location and service.
Up on a small hill and very near to the city centre is this wonderful hotel. We had booked into one of their 'Executive' rooms, which is only a few Dollars extra. However, they are well worth it, the decor and facilities easily match those of much bigger places or international chains. We would certainly stay with them again.
