We had the pleasure of trying the Atom Cafe this week in Nelson. We were able to go straight into this boutique cafe just inside the main door of the Rutherford Hotel, very close to Nelson Cathedral. It was a very pleasant surprise with a charming Hostess who was friendly and polite. The standard of cuisine was exceptional with the hotel chef preparing the delicious pastries onsite. It is in a delightful setting with views onto the green. The decor and flower arrangements all added to this enchanting Cafe. Well worth trying especially since the prices were very reasonable.
Stayed here for a couple of nights. I was surprised how dated the hotel rooms are. They were nice and clean but could do with abit of an update. Staff were helpful. I am not sure if I would stay here again.
Nice central hotel just neatly tucked away from the main town, only a 3 min walk to shops bars restaurants, very clean comfy bed ample space in the room, a good choice for us, good car parking and nice breakfast, we didn't have dinner here as we like to go local and visit bars and restaurants, but it all looked good, very close to Jens Hansen the ring maker for LOTR lovely rings I bought a wedding ring for myself something a bit different [ also a fan ] nelson is a nice town with access to the tours for Abel Tamsin and a great place to start your tour of New Zealand
Not usually a fan of hotel restaurants but we went for dinner to one of their themed evenings and were very very pleasantly surprised - attentive service and wonderful food. The theme was Scottish cuisine and we were presented with a twist on Cullen Skink, Pork Belly and Tipsy Laird. All wonderful.
This is the second time i've stayed here recently and while the hotel has a great reputation i was less than impressed. The hotel is quite dated and desperately needs upgraded. Our tv wouldn't work in our room (although this was rectified by switching it for another tv). While the bathroom is a decent size the shower jets went everywhere but where you wanted them to. The room itself was also a good size and has a decent work desk. Beds were comfy. Room service was good. Restaurant didn't open early enough for me to have breakfast so i can't comment on that. Dinner-wise, the food was yum but we were the only two in the restaurant which was very off-putting. The gym had good equipment in it including weights. The location is very central.
Stayed here on the 12th floor for 2 nights late Autumn , and dined at the Japanese Restaurant, which was stylish. Room was lovely, great view, bath, everything worked, good TV with channels, lacking only the TAB channels. Gym was excellent. Overall a polished stay, the hotel is dated in age, and some would see as old fashioned, but it has a quiet style about it, everything seems to work, just needs that spa pool to add to the services available
I had not been to Nelson before and stayed at the Rutherford Hotel for work. This is a refurbished hotel with lovely rooms, comfy beds and pillows and a beautiful view. More than that their service from all departments was exceptional - I could not fault it!
Lovely Kiwi welcome to this lovely hotel. Beautiful extensive reception with water feature and lovely floral displays of orchids. Our room was very well appointed with usual,... chairs, comfortable bed, good bathroom with lots of towels and honey based bath products! Very nice indeed. The main restaurant is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday nights which was disappointing. There is also a Japanese restaurant which was open. The city centre and the main shopping area are but a-stones throw away with a good range of dining options! Chinese, Seafood, European, Italian...and many more! The valet parking is chargeable at NZ$5 per 24 hrs so it was very reasonable and saved looking for a space in the street! Breakfast was also very good and generous. Lots of fresh fruit, breads and…
Great hotel a few hundred feet from the main shopping area. Spacious rooms very high standard of cleanliness and decor. Really helpful front desk staff. Just a shame the pool was closed as it was end of season.
Nice reception, unfortunately the building looks like a 70's office block. Pool closed until next summer - disappointing, but guess it was due to the weather, not so warm here! Room nice size, opening windows which we appreciated as we dislike air con. Coffee, tea, kettle, hairdryer, iron in room but no safe. Good location, easy walk to town and restaurants. Breakfast OK. We walked to the beach at Tahunanui, about 3 miles each way, but well worth it! Beautiful sandy beach, spent 2 hours there looking for shells and sitting on driftwood logs admiring the view. Guess you could get a taxi or bus there if it suited you better than a walk. Smugglers pub, Macdonalds and other shops/eateries near beach as well as public toilets. Great views of mountains and coast. We had been offered…
