Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Don't be fooled by the pool and outdoor area, everything else is terrible. The manager is a horrible woman with zero customer service skills. She was extremely aggressive and angry with me and my friends during our stay, regularly shouting and screaming at us over nothing. There are bed bugs in many of the rooms and when we spoke to the manager about this we were blamed for bringing them in ourselves but when speaking to long term guests we found out this has been an issue there for a long time. The rooms with bed bugs were never properly cleaned so this is still an issue. The toilets and showers are not properly cleaned and there is no hand soap available in any of the toilets. STAY AWAY!!!

One of the nicest hostels I have stayed in. NZ. Excellent facilities with a good community vibe, there are certain reviews with personal negative complaints pointed to staff and I can bare whiteness to the fact that these people were kicked out for stealing guests items from fridges and being extremely disrespectful to staff etc which is something Rhonda and her team do not put up with for the well-being of herself/staff and guests. Great stay , had a blast! Would recommend x

Laid back, sunny and welcoming hostel. Whether you are staying for one night or months the staff are friendly and inclusive. Park up in your campervan and use all the facilities or plenty of dorms. Special mention to Rhonda, kind and a wealth of knowledge.

Wow this place is amazing and the people here are super welcoming! The pool and garden area is incredible, all the space in the world to enjoy that beautiful Nelson sunshine. I love the little dens they have that you have to climb a ladder to get to. The rooms are great, love the lay out and design of the bunk beds in here. They're all separate pretty much so no squeeky beds!! Showers have good pressure and are really hot! The kitchen is pretty spacious with fridges dotted about all over the place. Honestly don't have a bad word to say about this place! If you decide not to stay here, then you're a fool who is missing out.

This place really worths stopping for at least two weeks. While I traveled North Island I met lots of people telling me I have to go if I am in Nelson. And I'm glad I did. The community is so diverse. Mix of cultures. The vibe is so welcoming. And I love that there is like hidden places in the hostel that you can discover. For example next to reception is a balcony with pillows that you can climb up on ladder and chill 💙 and the sauna, pooool and jacuzzi 💯

Arrived in Nelson with the intention of staying a couple of weeks, but ended up staying 3 months. Paradiso is a lovely place with a really open and relaxed atmosphere. Lots of travelers from all over the world, creating a very social and diverse vibe. The victorian style house gives a very homey feel; several cats around in the garden as well (personal bonus). Staff was super friendly and helped out with finding work for us. Just a great time!

I came here with a friend for two days and I ended up staying for two months. It is a hostel that traps you because it has good energy, the people and the staff are like family. It is one of my best experience here in New Zealand.

After traveling NZ for six months, I am so happy to be staying at the Paradiso! The moment I walked in the environment was very welcoming and friendly. The kitchen has an indoor-outdoor kind of vibe and is always clean. When it’s nice and sunny outside the pool, hot tub or sauna are always a good idea. Amazing staff! will make sure you rooms are tidy and clean. It’s like one be happy family and I am happy to be able to call PARADISO my home for the next couple months. :)
