Located in a quiet garden setting along the Maitai River in downtown Nelson city, this modern' VictorianCottage' B&B offers 1 enchanting room, genuine Kiwi/Canadian hospitality and fabulous gourmet breakfasts. After 21 years in the 'big house' at 51 Domett we downsized to our cottage at 52 Domett Street, but enjoy B&B so much that we are only semi retired. Our home is designed to be environmentally friendly, faces north allowing the guests to enjoy the morning sun through their French doors which opens to their private patio. Canadian Chef, Janet Southwick ensures that breakfasts are always a treat with blueberry baked French toast, specialty omelettes and frittatas.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A delightful place to stay. The bedroom is between the bathroom and a small kitchen/living room space and the unit was given unobtrusive housekeeping each day. We had 4 nights here and really appreciated the quietness and cozy environment. The hosts were helpful, friendly, and unobtrusive, and very obliging with providing some extra kitchen utensils that we asked for. The breakfasts were yummy! We thoroughly recommend Baywick Inn and will stay here again when next in Nelson.

Only a few rooms, but very clean, tidy and cosy. Our room did not have an ensuit3, but did have a private, sole use bathroom. Excellent hosts provided a very tasty and local breakfast. We did travel in March 2017, but I didn’t realise I hadn’t posted the review!

Thanks for your review, but we have had many changes in the past 2 years. We are now doing B&B from the house we built in the back yard of the historic house 51 Domett. We have just 1 room now that is ensuite and has a wonderful outside private patio, check it out at baywicks.com, Janet

My fiancé and I stayed at the Baywick Inn recently, and loved the picturesque building, the decadent breakfasts, and the delightful company of our hosts. Our hosts were particularly helpful recommending activities for us to do around Nelson, and were very knowledgeable about the local history.

You know you've found somewhere special when you wish you had booked longer! Friendliness of welcome which made us feel like one of the family. Gorgeouse homely guest accommodation and scrummy breakfast. What makes this place stand out are the hosts and their relaxed approach. Lovely to sit and chat over breakfast. Definitely a first class Canadian/Kiwi combination. Can't recommend this B and B highly enough.

The B&B has changed a bit since we originally booked in that Tim and Janet have moved from the 'big house' to one they have had built behind. Our room was attached to one side of their new property having its own courtyard and entrance, a small lounge area, very comfortable bedroom and superb shower room. Janet communicated the change to us in advance and generously offered us a bottle of Nelson wine in recompense which we thoroughly enjoyed. As did we the decanters of sherry and port provided for your stay! Janet and Tim are lovely people who are very friendly, helpful and attentive to all of your needs and a pleasure to just sit with and chat to. Breakfasts are wonderful with fresh fruit and Janet's maple toasted muesli together with other goodies and a different cooked option each day which was delicious. On the day that we had to leave early J & T provided a superb spread for us to eat in our lounge before heading out. The location is also great within easy walking distance of Nelson itself and many beautiful walks including one taking you to the official centre of New Zealand. It's also an easy drive to get to the Abel Tasman park and other places along the way. We would highly recommend Tim and Janets' B&B PS mustn't forget a mention for Jazz, Tim and Janets' little dog! Lovely.

Thanks for your kind review. Yes the Baywick Inn has downsized and we are running just one room now, but offer all the same service as before. Our location has only changed in the fact that we are 'behind' the original Victorian house in our "Victorian ' inspired cottage. We have great views down the brook at breakfast and yes if you wish Jazz will join you anytime, or he can easily go to 'his room' if you don't like dogs.

Everything about this inn is wonderful, starting with the hosts who were very welcoming and helpful with orienting us, and suggesting activities and restaurants. Breakfasts were delicious! The inn is a short walk from the main shopping/restaurant area and is also close to the Queen's Gardens and the "center of NZ." There was clearly a lot of attention to detail in furnishing the rooms. We stayed in the upstairs or the cottage behind the main inn and it was splendid. Enjoyed the balcony. You can't go wrong here!

We were delighted to have stayed at the Baywick Inn and I'm sure you will be too if you choose this BnB. It's in a lovely location by the Matai river yet only 20 minutes walk into the centre of Nelson, with all its shops and restaurants. Very convenient also for Queen's Gardens and the Centre of New Zealand. Janet and Tim were charming and helpful hosts and her breakfasts are fabulous. We will definitely try to stay here again when next in Nelson.

After 3 months of traveling Auz and NZ and after a week around Nelson (and few disappointing B&B here), we found Baywick Inn. I wish it was sooner. If you can - book it. One of the nicest one I've ever been and possibly the nicest one of all in Nelson city. Great location, perfect room (Brookview), all very clean and spoiling, wonderful breakfast. One of the few places in north South Island with aircon and mesh - just because they care. Much more than any other place around. I found Janet and Tim to be nicest couple we've met around. Extremely nice and so respectful to our privacy - a really rare combination. I was sad to leave. This place and its owner made me feel good. Before we left I told Janet they can charge more for the room, she answered: "it's not all about money. It is nice to give people more than they expect" (maybe in better English...) - unbelievable! And it says it all.

What a great find right in the heart of Nelson! We were originally booked in for two nights but after my husband got sick, we extended our stay to three nights. Janet and Tim were so welcoming and gave us some great local advice as well as a fabulous breakfast each day! Jazz, the dog, is very friendly too. The location is just perfect with gorgeous views of a local Magnolia.
