Adventure cabins based in the serene Maitai Valley. A perfect spot to base yourself for cycling and walking adventures or to just relax in a calming spot. Located in easy reach of what Nelson city and the wider Tasman area has to offer but feels miles away.

Mark and family have built a beautiful paradise retreat just outside of Nelson. It’s family friendly, affordable and very comfortable. Beautiful views, untouched nature in every direction, great access to the bike trails all just a few kms away from the city center. We’ll definitely be back, it was the most refreshing stay we had on our South Island trip. Says a lot when we were there for a mt bike race!

The whare iti cabins are nestled on the hill amongst native bush and are cosy and well equipped. There is a spacious communal kitchen bbq are and outdoor fire pit to complement the cabins. We stayed in the two bedroom house which is spacious and lovely and cosy with the wood fireplace. Mark and Tania and their daughter Indy are wonder hosts. They lit the fire for us on the evenings that we were home later so the house was cosy and warm to come back to. The valley has lots of walks, mountain bike trails and swimming holes. Our grandchildren loved it. I highly recommend staying here.

Mark, Tania and Indie were friendly, welcoming and couldn’t do enough to make my stay enjoyable. The tiny house was clean, well-appointed and modern. The bed was super comfortable and it was lovely to awaken to beautiful native bush surrounds. Would highly recommend as the facilities are fantastic with ensuites in each room and a well-equipped kitchen with a rustic communal area.

Lovely new log cabin design chalets in an elevated secluded environment but within a 10 minute drive to Nelson township. Close to mountain bike trails and walking tracks. Hospitable hosts with a good knowledge of the local area. Highly recommended for adventurers or if you just want a quiet location to stay.

This was just the best place to stay, close to everything you need. But felt like you were well away, the Coppermine Bike Trail is pretty much just over the road. After riding this track, it was great to return to the cozy cabin where you could not find a better shower any where!! The hosts are funtastic, and are very helpful with your needs and information on the area. Highly recommended!

I loved the peace and quiet staying here. At night it's totally dark and quiet. Firm mattress, could have slept way longer. Everything you need in a small space. Hospitable hosts who made sure all was warm and comfortable. Would definitely stay again.

Our young family with children aged 6 and 3 enjoyed a week stay at Maitai Whare. My husband went ahead a few days to enjoy the mountain biking tracks on the doorstep. We then all enjoyed a mere taste of what Nelson has to offer, highlights included Centre of NZ walk, night food markets, a day at Tahunanui beach and a wine and cider tour. We missed out on Pics Peanut Butter (recommend booking in advance). After busy days, it was a delight to return each day driving up to Maitai Valley, winding our way alongside the river. Evenings were my favourite, with the children settled in the cosy cabins - it was so lovely to sit watching the beautiful star filled sky and the moon lighting up the forest on the opposite side of the valley - so bright you would think it was daytime.
