Detailed Reviews
A very special place needs a great camp. The owner operators of this holiday park and lovely and friendly. Booking recommended in summer though we managed to get powered site on the day.
Great facilities: kitchen and lounge, bathrooms with super showers. Just a stone's throw to the beach and set amongst the bush and many walking tracks. We came for the adventure park but just stayed in the grounds and swam at the beach.
If travelling in motorhome, ensure your tank is low or empty as no wastewater drop point.
Very relaxing and highly recommended - but remember your bug spray if you get bitten like me!

Bert ( short for Roberta) is an amazing camp mother, navigating so many different people and their requests. The camp is fabulously clean and the flowers in the bathrooms give the place a homely feel. The kitchen is amazingly well equipped and because it is spotless, I felt very responsible to maintain the place in the same high standard.
We had a cabin which was very comfortable and very close to both the bathroom and the kitchen.
The swimming is wonderful even at low tide, safe with very little undertow but the stony beach makes walking barefoot slightly more difficult.
There is a lovely rural walk which gives a rewarding view of the beach and adjacent estuary ( the lookout was not possible to reach as there was logging of pine trees at the nearby native bush).
Bert and Matt are the most impressive managers I have ever met, friendly, straightforward and upbeat.
( I’m almost too wary to share this paradise of a place with others!!)

We stumbled across this little gem. So close to Nelson yet feels so remote. While here we walked to he summit a 40 minute clinic where we were lucky to see a pod of dolphins circling the bay. There were also seals on the rocks. Nothing was a bother for the owner who was always welcoming people & even doing a late nite clean of amenities. Children here are catered with a trampoline & swing. Very quit place woken in the morning to sounds of bellbirds and cicadas. If you dont want the busy ness of other camping grounds & natural beauty this us the pla e for you.

This low key campground near to Cable Bay beach welcomes dogs, motor homes and families without lots of frills .
We stayed in one of the two tiny cabins that sleep 4 ( bunks in one and double bed and bunks in the other) they’re really close to the kitchen and toilet block and reception meaning it can be busy at checkin time but very quiet at other times. A little stream behind the cabin lulled us to sleep. Good swimming at either end iff the beach and excellent steep walk up to beech forest on the Cable Bay walkway

What a fantastic little holiday park tucked away from it all. Bert the host could not have been any friendlier or helpful.
The site is so clean, we’ll maintained and homely compared to the many holiday parks we stay at during our annual trip to NZ
We will definitely return there again.
Excellent value for money too as we pay a lot more elsewhere.
Finally. the ‘terrible’ comment left by another customer is most unfair and maybe is a personal gripe?

We loved Cable Bay. First time we have stayed there, in our caravan on a powered site. Bert & Matt would have to be the friendliest Managers of a Campground that we have had the privilege to meet. So welcoming & obliging with a real ‘ Hands On ‘ approach. This makes all the difference to the atmosphere of their well run Campgrounds. As well as it being a beautiful place to stay, there is much to do. Walks, Swimming, sitting & taking in the views. A Cafe as close as it could possibly get & a very short trip to Nelson should you feel like doing the shops & Restaurants. Make it a destination & you won’t be disappointed.

What an absolute gem. Beautiful views and well laid out campsite. Spotless and well stocked facilities - love the flowers in the ladies toilets! Hosts Matt and Bert could not be more welcoming and ready to help out. We only stayed a couple of days but wish it could have been longer. A must.

Went to explore historic Cable Bay, but found this delightful smaller camp and decided to stay. Good grassed area for our tent with plenty of water taps, plus trees for shade. A short walk to a safe but mainly stoney swimming beach. The owners allowed us to go through their farm property to join the hilltop walkway. Very clean facilities and a well equipped kitchen stocked with utensils and crockery. You'll need a boat if you want to catch fish. In the lounge is a fascinating folder with a family member's recollection of early settlers in the area. Very quiet except for one night when a long-term resident was having noisy drinks outside until midnight.
