We loved it here! The room is so beautiful, the breakfast room stunning, the outlook on to the garden lovely and Mark and John couldn’t be better hosts. If we come back to Nelson we wouldn’t even consider staying anywhere else!

My friend and I need a place to stay and we thought that Ah House was an excellent choice! The hosts, Mark and John, and Dot, also, were also very friendly and helpful. The room was cozy, impecably clean, and furnished with so many amenities, as soap, shampoo, etc., but also extra towels, washcloths, pillows and blankets...even electric ones if you chose.The galley kitchen was stocked with the necessities. Breakfast was perfectly presented in the beautiful dining room or outside on our serene and quiet deck. (Whatever is your fancy.) The food was not only delicious and of gourmet quality, but also presented beautifully at a time mutually established by you and your host. By the time we left, we knew we wanted to return to Ah House on our next visit to the South Island to see more of the attractions that we had missed. You are only a three minute walk to many restaurants and shops, including the Saturday and Sunday Markets which have some delights for everyone! It is also very conveniently located about 12-15 minutes from the airport. Yes, we give this B & B a 12 Star Rating!!!! Joan & Marie

We have just spent three nights in the garden apartment at Ah House and what a pleasurable experience it was. From the moment we were welcomed by our genial host Mark we felt at home and comfortable. The garden apartment is spotlessly clean, spacious, comfortable, very well equipped, warm, sunny and with a nice aspect over the garden and across Nelson and the cathedral tower. The bathroom, with very efficient shower, lives up to the rest of the apartment. Our hosts Mark and John were the most helpful, pleasant, entertaining of people who will do anything they can to enhance your stay. Breakfast in the lovely dining room was a great way to start the day, Mark is a very good cook. Each day there was a variation on the traditional cooked breakfast, and all were delicious. The garden of Ah is very well maintained, the house itself is just a short walk from the cathedral and therefore town and garage parking is provided at Ah. We shall return to Ah from time to time in the future for as long as we are in New Zealand on our extended visas. If you stay you will also meet Bella the dog who adds to the charm of Ah. Our advice is, do not miss this Nelson gem.

It's been many years since I last visited Nelson, and my experience at Ah House made it a real treat. Charming hosts Mark and John provided a wonderful personalised breakfast service in the formal dining room of the main house, and the rooms I stayed in had great facilities for tea, coffee, and basic supplies.
The house, gardens, and rooms, are filled with antiques and curiosities from New Zealand and abroad, all styled with a quirky panache - including a classic Kiwi Crown Lynn tea set displayed in my rooms, that I would have happily taken home...
The hosts were readily available to provide tips and suggestions for exploring Nelson, while at the same time providing absolute privacy for guests. I stayed in the garden rooms, and it felt like a holiday retreat, with living room, verandah, immaculate bathroom facilities, and plenty of garden space to relax in. I've already booked my next visit, and can't wait to get back. HIGHLY recommended.

This is quite an unusual but beautifully apportioned bnb. We stayed in the Garden Cottage which is basically a separate bedroom and living room, joined by a wooden veranda. It’s all quite cosy but very pretty and relaxed. Mark and John were really welcoming and helpful and we particularly appreciated the iPhone and iPad charging cables available in both rooms! Breakfast was very good, with their home made granola and it’s only a 3 minute walk to the city centre. Wonderful place!

Mark and John are consummate hosts, flexible to guests needs with just the right balance between leaving you to yourself and yet providing attentive service. The property is a fun place and as far from 'beige' hotel accommodation as you are likely to get. The location is 10 minutes stroll from Nelson City Centre but traffic noise and that general hum of a town centre are non-existent at Ah House, so you can sit in any of the various location options in the garden and while away the afternoons. We had a week of business to conduct on Nelson and Richmond but when that was concluded each day, we returned to Ah House and clicked into holiday mode.

If we ever pull off the dream of opening a B&B, I would want it to be just like Ah House. Mark and John have made everything charming, with thoughtful, comforting touches everywhere. They were always ready to help with a hiking trail suggestion (and map!), the best vineyards to visit, or even a last minute booking at a chiropractor. We felt so welcome and cared for that we didn’t want to leave. The B&B is wonderfully located on a quiet street that is easy walking to the town center or any number of spectacular trails. Besides, Mark’s breakfasts are the most delicious we had in our entire month in New Zealand. We very much hope we can return to Nelson and Ah House soon.

We had four very relaxed days in the garden rooms which were a successful exercise in tiny house accommodation. They were very stylish, warm and comfortable with a lovely outlook to a lush and interesting garden. Our hosts made us feel at home immediately and could not have done more. They deserve all the lavish praise on this site because they clearly put every effort into making their gusts feel good.

Faultless in every aspect. The rooms, the decor, the service, the breakfast, the grounds, the bird song, the location - just 5 minutes walk to the Nelson cafes and restaurants near the Cathedral. Amazing hosts, the property is eclectic, tasteful and bursting with character. If you are looking for Nelson accommodation, stop looking and book this. You simply won't regret it.

What a delight! This B&B is just on the edge of the town but is a world away, in a quiet garden setting. Immaculate presentation of rooms, garden and breakfast area. Breakfast was top notch with cooked or lighter options available. High quality linens, toiletries and nice little touches like robes and complimentary welcome drink in the fridge. Bed was comfortable and the shower hot. Bathroom is compact but it's not like we needed to be in there often!
Our hosts were so welcoming, explaining the B&B, it's facilities and giving us great advice on dining out and sightseeing options. But, they were never intrusive. The apartment itself is completely self contained and separate to the house so you can interact as little or as much as you like. There is a separate lounge area, beside the apartment, for the exclusive use of apartment guests.
The B&B is eco friendly, making sure that all products used are low impact and garden friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend or stay again. Great value and a welcome respite from living out of a suitcase.
