We stayed here for 4 nights. We got picked up from the isite carpark which was great. The lady was very friendly and very helpful. We checked in and got shown to our room which was also lovely. The hostel is a little bit out of town but that was great for us and the walk did us good. They have free breakfast every morning and a good selection of breads which i could never stop eating!! The owners Richard and Rachel were super friendly and always spoke to you, im sure they would help out if you ever had any problems not that we did.
The wifi was great and free, always a bonus. They have a huge selection of games which we never stopped playing. All the communal areas were super clean and the kitchen is well equipped with everything you need. They even have a fridge just for your alcohol!!!!
If i could change anything it would be the lock on the bedroom door as you have to manual do this, i always locked it, however fellow backpackers didn't which made me feel a little on edge with my stuff, but then again i am also super paranoid about these things.
I would defiantly recommend this to anyone staying in Nelson as it is BEAUTIFUL.

I feel I should make a point of giving this place a fantastic review. Me and my partner have stayed in many a few hostels and similar types of accommodation on our travels and out of all of them this place felt most like home. We had a private double which was exceptionally clean with a comfortable bed and a good shower and toilet just outside the door.

The kitchen area was absolutely immaculate. THE CLEANEST kitchen I have ever seen in a hostel!! All kitchen equipment was in good condition and generally a pleasure to use, unlike most/all other hostels!

Whole place had a positive feel to it and a quiet/relaxed/friendly atmosphere.

All the best to the people running this place, keep up the great work!

Though it is located a bit away from the city center it is good if you want a quiet place. The place is well maintained and the staff provide free good breakfast and also dropped me off at the bus stop early in the morning. The beds were comfortable with heaters. I met friendly people one of whom gave me a lift to Picton though he was headed to Christchurch.

Staffs are polite and friendly, but the manager is rude. The manager didn’t trained her staffs properly and there is no onboard notice about charging the luggage storage service. She even wants to charge one more day. I think it’s unfair to not disclose the guests everything that requires extra charges.

stayed at this...place for one night before walking the Heaphy track. We arrived at a late time due to the horrible location. WHO PUTS A HOSTEL SO FAR AWAY FROM THE CBD I DO NOT KNOW! being backpackers. We didn't have a car so had to walk for 30 mins from the i site. Which Is not very fun. Arrived and Richard at reception seemed friendly and nice. WE WERE WRONG! we had a shuttle at 9am the next morning and requested a drop off at the i site in the morning for 8:15am. We requested this at 7pm as that was the earliest time. If the hostel was closer we wouldn't have a problem. Richard said that it would be no problem. Woke up the next day; waited at reception for Richard to drop us off. No sign of him. Gave him a call at 8:20am. He was rude and sounded angry towards us. And he forgot! Great customer service! Arrived at the hostel at 8:25am. He knew we had a shuttle booked. And he took his time. Spoke to other backpackers infront of us. Folded and washed laundry infront of us and just took his time. This is very unprofessional! Safe to say. I will NOT be recomending this hostel to others as the treatment we recieved was disgusting and deplorable. The owners of this hostel need to learn to
Treat guests with respect especially when they obide by the rules of the hostel. Never again! I DO NOT RECOMEND THIS HOSTEL. DO NOT GO HERE!

Hi,thanks for taking the time to review us.We do offer a COMPLIMENTARY PICK UP service when you arrive in Nelson also, just a simple phone call or email beforehand is sufficient. There are 7 buses at varying times that we drop off to in the morning starting at 7 15am,so I had more than likely just returned from a drop off when you saw me.I see NO mention in your review that our service caused you to miss your bus and am a little perplexed at the severity at which you reviewed us.Our guests have nothing but praise normally for this FREE OF CHARGE service. Regards Richard

We were at the bug for two nights and loved the charming little backpacker hostel. The rooms were quite big and the beds were comfy. The bathrooms and the kitchen were clean all the time and there was even a free breakfast available with lots of different choices of bread (also cereal, milk, sometimes fruit). Tea and freshly brewed coffee were free too. There was also a bike hire but we did not manage to get one while we were there. I don't know how many they have in total but I guess you should grab one early in the day. The staff was super nice and helpful and They also have a really nice backyard. I would always stay there again and I kinda already miss it! Totally felt like home

This was one of the best places I've stayed anywhere in the WORLD. The kitchens were wonderful and had every cooking tool you may need. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever stayed in, and the room was a good size. The whole place was so very clean and had a lovely homely atmosphere. It even had a sitting room! Very relaxing place, lovely big garden with plenty of chairs and a BBQ. All facilities were perfect. The owners are chatty and happy to help. It was a really lovely experience staying here, I can't recommend it enough.

The Bug was probably the best Hostel I've stayed in New Zealand. The private room with ensuite bathroom was very spacious, clean and nicely decorated. The kitchen is clean and well-equipped. There is a nice garden where you can hang out or eat your dinner. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere and the owner is very nice and helpful. I would definitely stay here again if I came back to New Zealand.

We had a really lovely stay in a double room for 3 nights while in Nelson. I really loved the theme of the hostel! Our room was very comfortable & it was a great size. All facilities were spotless throughout - I don't think i ever saw a thing out of place! The guy who runs it is really friendly & helpful. I definitely recommend staying here when in Nelson :)

Comfortable beds, free Wi-Fi, fully furnished kitchen, free parking, and a decent price. We had a very nice stay here after hiking Abel Tasman and relaxed in the hammocks spread throughout the place in the nice atmosphere. The owner even gave us a dinner recommendation to a very good Thai place and had fresh bread and boston buns in the kitchen for us in the morning. One of the best hostels I've stayed in so far.
