Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's definitely the Backpackers we have preferred in our year in New Zealand. The common areas (kitchen, TV room, dining area, gym...) are very clean, useful and confortable. Everything is practical, for example the boxes we can use to put our food in the kitchen. There is a big space to cook in kitchen with good cooking facilities. And all the staff is welcoming : thank you Laura, Emma and all the staff for your welcoming and your tips to travel and discover Nelson and Abel Tasman.

The hostel’s website makes the place to look better than it is. Private room was ok but very cramped. They have spent most the money on the kitchen and dining area which are nice. Wasn’t much of a vibe at the hostel. The girl at reception wasn’t very enthusiastic and seemed to pop off with her boyfriend to smoke at the back often. Only two car spaces, if not you need to park on the road outside which is free from 17.00-08.00, if not park 3 minutes walk away.

Room was fine kitchen is tired electric hobs mostly broken. Toilets were not cleaned Paper towels left in toilet bin for days. The hostel has many rules for which you can be fined for not complying with . No food in room no noise after 10pm clear up and put away in the kitchen. No vaping on the step. The person who broke everyone of these rules during my stay was the chap who worked there.
Dont have rules you cant follow yourself

First look when you walk in takes your breath away the down stairs is a beautiful place nice kitchen and living area to dine and watch tv. Staff were welcoming and extremely friendly.

But as soon as you got up stairs that's another story. The bunks have no rails considering how high they are, there is a draft coming from the windows and it says bedding provided but honestly a duvet and pillow is not bedding and the covers made you feel like you wanted to itch. The rooms smelt like dampness and BO when we arrived making it near impossible to be in our room too.

The bathrooms need a serious upgrade the doors don't lock, the showers are foul and the windows and the bathroom outside door and windows bang as they don't actually shut. the bathroom and the bedrooms had mold up the walls and the bedrooms were freezing cold.

To top it all off the cleaner thinks its acceptable to show up at 10PM! and vacuum, clean the bathrooms bang around down stairs and then bang around in the bathroom and then throw all the rubbish out until 12am keeping everyone awake 2 nights in a row! Was honestly appalled that this place was functioning like this.

Some of the bedrooms had broken pieces and made it dangerous and a health and safety concern. This place needs to up its standards its an accident waiting to happen and actually do their cleaning at a decent hour between the check in and checkout time which is 10am-3pm not in their quiet hours of 10pm to 12am!!!

I am honestly extremely disappointed and concerned that this hasn't been addressed sooner.

I arrived at noon, a while before checkout, to drop off my bags before exploring the city. I walked around in town, visited the library, and had dinner. I come back at 8PM to find my luggage has been locked away in the office. The doors are closed. The cleaning staff on location do not have the key.

I have to call a number (presumably the manager), which shifts all the blame on me and is not helpful at all. "You were definitely informed" "You decide, it's 20 NZD now and 50 NZD after 9PM" "I don't work for free"

I admit that I did not ask until what time my luggage would be accessible. I expected that if it were to be locked, I would be informed of that, either while my luggage was taken and put somewhere, or sometime afterwards as they have my contact info and could have called me. I did not consent to my luggage being locked away. I would not have minded it sitting in the hall or a corner of the hostel if they had just asked.

Instead, I get gaslit, blamed for my luggage getting locked, and extorted.

Stayed at bridge hostel for 2 weeks and it’s one of my favorite hostels I stayed at. It’s a very cozy hostel with a great location in the city near shops/bar/cafes and restaurants. It also have great facilities such as a big kitchen, diningroom, lounge and a outside-area and it’s well maintained. Staff is also very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend if staying in Nelson!

Had booked half a year ago through Hostelworld to see immediately after the payment that I had caught the wrong country (NZD instead of AUD), so cancelled immediately. Also let us know at the Hostel itself. The fee has been calculated and the Hostel has also deducted the full price from the credit card. NAUGHTINESS! Although I had cancelled directly half a year ago, I had to pay the full price. 180€ for NIX!!!

This place is fulled with people and staff that are like family from the minute you get in the door. This place is clean tidy with a calm feel. I had the best time stayed twice on two separate occasions and both times 5 stars

Love the double bed. So comfortable.
Room was small but so clean and tidy.
We only stay for one night, so we don't really explore the dining area or kitchen. But what I can see is they have very nice lounge, big kitchen, even internet room.
We though this hostel gonna be noisy during night time, but it was so quite after 9 PM, so we can sleep peacefully. That's what we need after long drive..
The only minus is, the car parking only available for 2 spots, so we need to parking at other side of the hostel.

Had a single room overlooking the street. It was clean and tidy. Perfect place to rest after long day walks into the surrounding hills. Showers were a bit tight, but hey! All part of the experience! Location was great and loved the view to the “Nelson Evening Mail Building”.
Location perfect to cafes, cheap eats and thrift shops.
