My family and I went here today for a Mother’s Day meal treat. When we arrived, yes it was busy but to be directed to our table with hand signals was a poor start not to mention finding people sitting at our clearly labelled reserved table having a coffee! Table wasn’t wiped down between them and us so that was black mark number 2 (doesn’t get better from here). Waited a solid 15 minutes before we approached the bar staff to give a drinks order and was told to take a seat “we’ll get there soon”. A waitress finally arrived, looked at us and shrugged and said “sorry” before taking our order. When the food arrived nearly an HOUR later, there were only 3 meals instead of 4 and I had to go in search of cutlery, napkins and condiments. The fourth meal arrived a solid 8 minutes later. I really wanted the food to redeem what was a lacklustre experience so far but it didn’t. The fish was heavily battered and very oily and the “chicken, Brie, almond filo parcel” was extremely light on chicken and the almonds weren’t there at all. Plus one of our meals had a hair in it 🤢 During the whole time we had been there, we were not approached once regarding further drinks and not asked if our meals were ok, HOWEVER the table right next to us were asked TWICE! We decided not to grow any older waiting for dessert and when paying, we were presented with an extraordinarily large bill. Half of it was items we certainly hadn’t ordered. No apology, just “that’s why we like you to check it”. Throw me an apron and a notepad sweetie and I’ll do the rest of your job for you while I’m at it. Here’s some advice for free - when you are short staffed, restrict your bookings and don’t take walk ins. Look after your bookings, they’ll usually come back. But we won’t be.

Hotel's Favourite
I stayed here overnight with a friend twice in a week, book-ending a tramp in the Abel Tasman. I thought it was great value for money - clean, big, comfortable rooms in a busy but peaceful English country pub-style small hotel. Nice grounds and reasonable food on offer in the pub downstairs. Lovely staff, particularly Aroha the manager. Toby the dog and his duck toy a highlight.

Covid shortages doesn't make up for lack of decent customer service. The menu was less than average meaning absolutely no fresh options which is astonishing considering the region. Really bad. One poor worker was servicing the bar which had at least half a dozen customers waiting but two more workers thought that stocking the beer fridge was more important than us. I wish we had left like the couple sitting beside us.

My friend and I went to look at staying at this place and had a coffee and cake. The staff were so unfriendly and unwelcoming and the place had changed a lot from the rustic character it used to have. The coffee was terribly burnt. I needed to access the internet to look at the accommodation options and arrange a few things so asked for the wifi password and was told it’s only for in house guests. They lost a lot of $ that day as we left and will not be back, nor did we bother making a reservation for dinner as previously planned.

Room Tip: The place was dead quiet so I don’t think they can afford to be so rude. Avoid the coffee!

We parked our camper overnight in the carpark. It costs $10pp but for the cost we got a $20 voucher for food and drinks. We had friends to see in the morning so came back for lunch and ordered the sticky chicken wings, oh so delicious! Sweet, savoury, a little Asian flavor a little heat...nom, nom. Seriously recommend!
