Me and my husband stayed one night here. Had a very warm welcome and shown around. Very keen to tell us about the free chocolate pudding they do every day at 8pm to encourage socialising amongst customers and the free breakfast in the morning. This is a delightful place to stay. The pudding was so good and was a really nice ice breaker for strangers. The room was clean and comfortable. We had our own bathroom and that was lovely and clean. Free soap! The breakfast was continental but that’s perfect, especially when it’s free! A wonderful place to stay. Budget but brilliant.

Last weekend we were delighted to discover Tasman Bay Backpackers and we can’t wait to return. It was a bonus arriving just before 8 pm in time for the delicious chocolate pudding and ice cream they serve every night. The rooms were clean and very comfortable with extra blankets and even hot water bottles available if needed. The lounge, kitchen and dinning room are all very spacious and there is a very welcome wood burner in the lounge. This backpackers is very environmentally friendly and even supply recyclable shopping bags on loan. There is plenty of parking on the road if car park is full. It was an easy walk to town for dinner. Another unexpected bonus is a help yourself breakfast of cereal and toast was provided. Friendly staff and welcoming staff.

Our bus was running late from Franz Josef so we didn’t end up checking in until just past 8pm. At this time they were serving their free, well-known chocolate pudding and ice cream and they ended up letting us sit down and have some before we had even checked in! Super hospitable and delicious pudding. The rooms were very tidy and love how they are very eco friendly. They also provide free herbs, oil, glad wrap etc - all the things that are hard to carry around as a backpacker, and we very much appreciated this! They also have a social hour where you’re not allowed to use technology in communal areas - this was a great way to meet people. Loved this hostel and they were very good for recommending places to see and do that we did not previously know of

We are an active retired couple, and we mostly do day hiking. We loved the Tasman Bay Backpackers. The property and our room was clean and attractive. We had everything we needed. The kitchen was clean and well stocked, and there were many indoor and outdoor seating options. The hostel has a cozy, friendly, relaxed feel, and I could have stayed another night or two. The hosts were gracious, and we can highly recommend Tasman Bay Backpackers to all travelers. While you are there, try to make time to walk up the the Centre of New Zealand!
