I live independently in a wheelchair, so that is my focus for this review. The accessible bathroom is a stand alone room with key-access. (They gave me the key so I had exclusive access). Fold down bench in a wet area shower. Loo had grab rails. Kitchen was fine too - but I didn't use it. We drive a VW Kombi van and parked at front urban camp (#6) which was scenic with an outlook over the boats and ocean. Could hear the surf. Push to facilites was through loose gravel but not too bad. All up it was a good stopover.
unfortunately closed. we were looking forward to stay here as we were in a campervan and tis was close to where you catch a tour to see penguins at night. Not sure how long this will be closed for. there are few freedom camping spots in oamaru and certainly nothing near where you can walk to the penguins. The other holiday park in oamaru is rediculously expensive so we had no choice to move on
We stopped here for 2 nights, one of them being New Years Eve. Great site overlooking the extremely picturesque harbour. We spent New Years Eve watching the penguins swim ashore opposite the site and then clamber up the boat ramp and waddle across the road. A truly memorable way to see out the old year and see in the new. The lady that runs the site was extremely helpful and should be commended for the way in which she protects the penguins and helps people to watch them and understand them. A big thank you to her.
This is a basic site with limited amenities. It is however great for the penguin colony viewing and Oamaru at large. There is a great kids playground next door. Owner was very friendly in recommending places to visit.
What a spot, we stumbled across this gem. Great location excellent price grassy powered sites, clean hot showers BBQ area and camp kitchen with dining area. This place is located right next to old town with bars and restaurants, you can just walk across the real at dusk and watch the penguins come ashore. There is a great cheese factory about 15 minutes up the road, every thing is in easy walking distance so no need to drive anywhere. The on site manager sorry i forgot her name was extremely helpful would recommend this place to anyone
Stopped here in our camper van for an overnight stay to visit the Blue Penguin Sanctuary and were impressed by the welcome we received, the cleanliness and the tremendous views and sun rise. It to be missed 💕
Perfect location, walk through to the amazing steampunk playground. Short walk to Victorian precinct. Great showers, very clean bathrooms. Handy laundry. Host also opened the family bathroom for us which also had a baby bath in it. Kids dvds and books to borrow in office which was handy. Definitely recommend paying the extra for the ocean front spot, best view ever! Welcoming and helpful host, would definitely stay again. Little more expensive than most campgrounds ($70 for powered ocean front site) but handy and clean. Little bit of noise from some late night parkers/partiers on the waterfront but didn’t bother or worry us.
This is an excellent place to stay. Fantastic location on waterfront and very short walk to town. Great children’s play ground beside short walk to brewery/pub with great food. Waterfront restaurant serving great breakfast and lunch. The park it’s is run by a delightful and helpful lady. Spotlessly clean. Great Kitchen and bathroom facilities. The little blue penguin come into camp each night. I will be staying there again in the near future.
Amazing location in a beautiful little town. The owner was so nice to us and helpful. The site overlooks the harbour that makes for a beautiful sunrise. Make sure you go to Scott's Brewing Co nearby and see the Blue Penguins! We highly recommend!!
Perfect location on the harbour for beautiful views and the town is only a short walk away. The lady who served us was super friendly, giving us recommendations on what to do and where to eat. The site itself was good, nice big pitches (+ hard standing), facilities all there, showers were clean and hot. We could hear the penguins on site but unfortunately didn't see any! Although it is a lovely walk down to the Penguin Colony.
