I live independently in a wheelchair, so that is my focus for this review. The accessible bathroom is a stand alone room with key-access. (They gave me the key so I had exclusive access). Fold down bench in a wet area shower. Loo had grab rails. Kitchen was fine too - but I didn't use it.
We drive a VW Kombi van and parked at front urban camp (#6) which was scenic with an outlook over the boats and ocean. Could hear the surf. Push to facilites was through loose gravel but not too bad.
All up it was a good stopover.

We stopped here for 2 nights, one of them being New Years Eve. Great site overlooking the extremely picturesque harbour. We spent New Years Eve watching the penguins swim ashore opposite the site and then clamber up the boat ramp and waddle across the road. A truly memorable way to see out the old year and see in the new. The lady that runs the site was extremely helpful and should be commended for the way in which she protects the penguins and helps people to watch them and understand them. A big thank you to her.

Nice harbour facing site, no timer for hot shower but laundry facilities is lacking, only one washer and one dryer. No hot water dispenser or filtered water dispenser though. Didn't managed to catch sight of the penguins although I did hear the sounds in the dark night. No Wi-Fi available.

The location is the selling point for this site. It is right opposite the beach and a short walk from the Little Blue Penguin reserve and show.
The facilities are basic but appropriate and perfect for a night or two.
Getting to see the penguin show needs booking and photographs are not allowed, unlike other similar shows.

We rocked up in the late afternoon and paid for one night. We were told that if we wanted to stay longer, just to write our name on the board and pay later. The next morning we awoke to some guy putting a chain up across the entrance. When we enquired why, in a long story short, we were told that we should have gone by now, the park was closing for a month or so, and we should not have been offered any longer than the night we stayed. He graciously gave us half an hour to sort our stuff and leave. We didn't even get a chance to use the facilities. Quite expensive and especially so since we didn't get to use anything. We left and went to the Top10 and...oh no...that same bloke was there too. Granted, he apologised, but reluctantly so.

just love this place - its compact, and some sites are small but the big attractions is its location. little blue penguins waddling around at night. lovely swimming beach opposite. great breweries, cafes, victorian area, steampunk easy few minutes walk away.

fantastic spot, quiet self sufficient... and the best bit is the penguins! If you stay up late enough and quiet enough they come straight in from the harbour around the wee boats and onto the road. Great location to explore the waterfront, wharf and Victorian precinct including Steampunk museum which is brilliant. Third time staying there in our camper.

Excellent over night stay for motor homes and campers.

Neat clean and tidy site Amenities including the kitchen are immaculate

Was advised about the blue penguins that make their nightly arrival to the shores- you can pay to go to the penguin colony viewing but a few make their way to the shore right in front of the park.

Well situated for a walk into the “old town” , visit to Steampunk HQ and the brewery. Make an effort to explore the play park on its doorsteps it is amazing.

When we stopped here we thought it was the ideal place to stay the night in Oamaru. It seemed in exactly the right place for the town and all bars and restaurants were in walking distance. Incidentally, when we initially stopped there there wasn't any staff in the office so we just parked up on a site and waited. We did notice that the facilities seemed somewhat tired, but then again we were self contained so not too much of a challenge. When the office eventually opened, on the wall was a hand written list about a yard long of all the Rules and regulations, and various charges, and when we were tould what the charge was for the night we were gobsmacked. Incidentally we were almost at the end of a month long South Island tour and had stayed in a significant number of campgrounds with a lot of different standards of facilities. The charges here were $10 more that the most expensive place w stayed, and there the facilities were all brand new. Needless to say we moved to far nicer, and a lot cheaper option just the other side of the CBD. We certainly didn't feel the location, facilities and charges justified the exorbitant amount the wanted to charge.

Stayed twice now, quiet and well placed camping ground. Staff are very welcoming . Has wifi, and sites are well placed. Also a good view and easy walk to town . Park is next to the grounds and the shoreline is just across the road
