Staff are friendly and nice, and check was easy. Was so unimpressed that they put me next to a covid positive patient that was isolating when they had other rooms available. The walls were paper thin so everything he coughed, I felt like I was getting coughed on. The beds were so hard to the point they were almost painful and I considered sleeping on my yoga Matt on the floor. Notice in shower saying if steam from shower triggered fire alarm you would be charged $250, yet they had no extractor van. Continental breakfast they served in the restaurant was actually embarrassing. Warm yogurt, dry toast or rice bubbles/ cornflakes that looked like they had been there years. Just a terrible experience.
On booking we were advised that they did not have a liquor license due to COVID-19, That should have rung enough alarm bells, but of no consequence as we were dining with our grandson. We ordered our mains with a garlic bread to start. The bread wasn't too bad and that was about where it stopped. I ordered the Blue Cod on special, my wife ordered the roast Pork on special and little Mr 8yo ordered the chicken nuggets. The nuggets were ok but the chips were a bit on the under cooked side of things. My Blue Cod tasted as if it had been in a freezer for 9 months, microwave defrosted and then deep fried. Dry as old leather. As for the roast Pork let's just say that it was inedible, dry, stringy and tasteless. On leaving we were charged for everything, even after voicing our concerns. Needless to say we will never be back.…
Comfortable and spacious. Good comfortable beds, room to spread out and put your bags places, good cooktop (maybe induction), nice sized drinking glasses! (I don’t like the tiny glasses motels often have), good sized tv that swivels, new heat pump that works well, blackout blinds that have a separate sheer curtain for privacy. Got its own well priced family restaurant which I didn’t try.
We didn't get any sleep, the beds were so hard we couldn't get comfortable. The ground floor unit was clean and tidy and the owners very accommodating. The room was light all night as the curtain covering the door wasn't long enough. The venetian blind on the kitchen window didn't block out any light. We tried to cover with pillows but that didn't work. After a very long night of no sleep, no decent coffee to help us out. Tea selection was minimal. We were lucky enough to have a large TV which came in handy when we couldn't sleep. We traveled with friends, and one of them slept on the kitchen floor due to the bed being so uncomfortable. Would pay to invest in some quality mattresses and bases. Outside lighting that was on all night was awful. If lighting has to be left on, need good quality black out curtains everywhere in the room. We had a big day of travel and really needed to get some sleep before travelling home. It definitely put a dampener on our trip to Oamaru.…
