Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a lovely, comfortable motel which is well situated to explore the town.. It is very well equipped. Have travelled a lot and this is one of the best we have used. The manager was very helpful and friendly and gave us good information to explore the town. Highly recommended.

This is a nice little hotel, which one would likely call a motel in the U.S. The rooms are clean and large, and have a functional kitchenette. I would describe them as simple but adequate and comfortable. It is a little too far to walk to the interesting areas of town, but an easy drive.

Stayed one night in a Spa King Cottage at the Mews in Oamaru. The owner, Paula, greeted us at reception, walked us to our cottage and made dinner reservations at the Del Mar Restaurant next to the Blue Penguin Colony viewing site. Very impressed with Paula’s brilliant and friendly service. The unit was exceptionally designed with a small living area with a full apartment size kitchen, separate bedroom and bathroom with a very deep spa. Two flat screen TVs and fast WiFi was a plus. Glad we made reservations early, because February is usually Chinese New Year. One of the best values for lodging we’ve enjoyed.

Our room was very big-separate bedroom and living area, large bathroom. Much bigger than we really needed. All the furnishings and fittings looked quite new and everything worked. Location was close to the centre of town. Check-in and check-out were quick and easy. We'd have no hesitation staying here again.

The Mews was one of the best motels we have stayed in. It was the cleanest, very quiet and had lots of rrom. Also has a spa bath , great WFI receptiona nd plenty of tv Channels. We had stayed in more expensive motels but this was great value for the price. We ended up staying one more night and would stay again.

Comfortable and quiet room. Parking is just outside the room. Small kitchenette adequate for some light cooking. Is a little way away from the main part of town but a short drive. Overall, a good place to stay and good value. Would recommend.

We had an overnight stay in an Executive Queen Spa Suite. Couldn't fault - everything we needed & very comfortable. Central location - 5 mins walk to main shopping area & 20 mins to Historic Precinct. Very helpful Manager, who made an excellent recommendation for Dinner - Scotts Brewing Company at the end of the Historic Precinct. Very good value, compared to the 5 other Motels we stayed in during our South Island holiday.

My wife and I took a self drive touring holiday on South Island New Zealand from the 17th March to the 11th April 2023. Apart from the first 2 nights and the last night where we stayed in a hotel in Christchurch we were self catering and stayed in accommodation that offered cooking facilities. I have reviewed each of the hotel/motels we stayed in. The following reviews cover the accommodation and some of the facilities/visits we made on the trip. If you would like to view the rest of the reviews please click on my username and all my reviews will be listed. Day 3 of our self drive tour of South Island March/April 2023 The Mews Oamaru. 5 stars We stayed at The Mews on the 17th March for the 3rd night of our self drive touring holiday of South Island. Welcome. The Manager/Owner was friendly and gave us information on where to view the penguins, and told us of a blues festival on in the town. He greeted us and presented us with a small bottle of milk to enable us to make a cup of tea. Service. We were only there for one night and we did not have the room serviced. Location. The Mews is within walking distance of the centre of Oamaru. Comfort. The room we had was a King Studio with a Spa Bath. The room was a good size and contained a king bed and a separate single bed. The bed was very comfortable. It contained a good sized TV, a small dining table, a kitchenette with fridge, microwave a hotplate and cooking utensils. We were able to park right outside our unit. Cleanliness. The room and bathroom was clean. The bedding was also clean. WiFi. The Wifi was very good and I was able to stream UK tv programmes using a VPN. Conclusion. This is a nice motel, clean and welcoming and the spa bath was an added bonus. We would stay here again if we came to Oamaru again.
