We booked at short notice, very happy with our 'pick and shovel' mining-themed room which was warm and comfortable with a great bathroom (including steampunk toilet roll holder!). Sports fans will love the wall of fame on the ground floor with all codes represented. A simple continental breakfast was include in the tariff and we enjoyed talking to manager Shelley about the hotel and its history in the morning. Would love to have stayed longer, definitely recommend Poshtel and historical Oamaru. And don't forget to try the lift!

We booked on Booking.Com and were told that it would have been best to call the hotel to get a room more suitable to what we needed. Our room was on the ground floor and called the bowling room. The decor was stunning and at first glance we were ok with it. However the window only opened about 10cm so that there was hardly any fresh air. It was so dark in the middle of the day that we needed all the lights on. There were no luggage racks and only one chair (no room for another one). There was so much bedding and no where to put it except on the floor jammed up by the door. The room was right on a car park and the supermarket noise started at 5am. The bathroom was fine although one had to ease past the toilet to get to the hand basin. On the plus side, the hotel is close to everything and we could walk to a restaurant The laundry facilities were excellent--We had checked that a laundry was available when we booked.. There is a nice lounge in the foyer. We were provided with a light breakfast.

We stayed one night in the Antarctic Explorer suite, with appropriate fixtures and fittings! Large room with sitting area, nice bathroom and very comfy bed. Very friendly welcome (and farewell the next morning) from Shelley & Aidan in the reception area that contains a lot of historical and quirky pieces. Would recommend.

From all the accommodations we stayed in since we left our home base at Red Beach (almost a month ago) this was the best decision we made. There's nothing traditional about this newly created Poshtel - it's more a private Hotel but offers superior rooms; lovely lounge/reception area with unique historical artefacts mixed with a few pieces of modern furnishings; off street private parking behind the building. A self-help continental breakfast is offered is a bonus especially when the rates are so reasonable. We stayed in the Fly Fishing themed room (ground floor) and as a Fly Fisherman, my husband was tickled pink. You can always request the room of your choice. There is an elevator to 2nd floor rooms. Our only regret is that we didn't book two nights; both to soak up the Poshtel atmosphere as well as have more time in Oamaru which is a truly special Victoriana town. Well done Poshtel for creating something truly special.

Stayed here in January as a base to explore Oamaru. Its in a perfect location with easy access to all the main attractions of the town. Shelley and Aidan were great hosts and very welcoming. The rooms and suites in the hotel are very nice with great little details. All the themes are very well thought out. Beds super comfortable - Highly recommend staying here when travelling to Oamaru. Thanks Shelley and Aidan :)
