Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

So glad we stayed at Oamaru Motor Lodge. Owner/Manager Ran was super efficient, friendly and informative. Nothing was too much trouble. Our room was spotlessly clean and very well appointed. Excellent location. We decided to eat in our room as we were weary after a lot of driving and Ran kindly organised for the restaurant across the road to deliver our meals to our room. Highly recommend this accommodation if you are in Oamaru! They also had contactless check-in available and extra cleaning measures in place. We really appreciate their efforts to be inclusive while still keeping stringent measures in place as safeguard.

Welcoming owners. Rooms basic but well presented. No noise from road. Shower pressure great. Not much else needed. Kitchen basic but all you need. Good sized wardrobe is staying longer.

Shop across the road does great Chinese takeaways and their ice cream serves are huge!!!!

Stayed twice now, hosts are so friendly and helpful. Rooms are by NZ standards spacious, clean, well equipped. TV sky channels are as advertised, up to date and not like other motels which advertise 50 channels of which 30 or more relate to radio or god. Full record facility and hosts will tape programmes in advance for you if requested. Excellent selection of teas and coffee etc, free paper daily. Beds comfortable fresh bedding. Bathrooms well stocked with all usual toiletries. Cleaners in daily again good service friendly and full of local knowledge. Prices are good as you get what they say they provide. Internet service good. Dairy across the road, fish and chip shop next door. Close to town. Although based on main road into town, which has traffic into late evening you do not notice the noise and my wife is a sensitive sleeper and slept very well each night. Ample parking, barbecue area. We have spent last three weeks travelling South Island and consistently been ripped off night after night for poor motels and service. As Poms who are NZ citizens now we are baffled by the poor standards kiwis will tolerate. Here at the Oamaru Motor Lodge you will find nothing but good, both my wife and I recommend this accommodation to everyone. We will definitely stay again. As an aside I recommend the large portion chicken fried rice for $12.50 next door as well. Overall a really positive stay and experience.

I had to cancel a one night stay at this motel because of extreme weather in the South Island.
Our proposed motoring holiday was impacted by extreme weather in most of the South Island NZ.
Ice, snow and flooding impacted our ability to travel from Christchurch to Wanaka.
The NZ Transport Agency on their website advised road closures due to ice and snow, especially on the mountain passes.
I conveyed this information to the Management of the Heritage Court Motor Lodge at Oamaru and asked if a cancellation fee of one night's accommodation could be wavered.
This was met with a negative response.
Be aware of this situation, if you find yourself in a similiar situation.
Management at this motel have no compassion and the facility needs to be avoided.

Came here with my partner to celebrate a special occasion and found that the towels hadn't been changed. There was dried blood on one, (2 big patches that I spotted), and the others were still wet from previous guest use.Not the end of the world. This was at 9:30pm and I went to reception, explained the situation and asked for clean towels. The man that I talked to was very, very rude and against providing such. I practically had to beg for something clean. This took awhile and eventually he complied and got me a fresh, I emphasize CLEAN towel. Thankfully. I asked at the time if we could have a late checkout to which he replied no; we would have to pay for electricity. Fair enough. Upon going back to the room and to bed, we both noticed dried blood stains on the pillow case! Knowing how hard it would be to convince the owner it wasn't from us, or to even get him to provide us with clean sheets had us hopeless and helpless. We tossed the pillow to the side, felt disgusting and gross knowing that the sheets were unclean and that we had to sleep in them for the night. We even comtemplated driving home or staying somewhere else. I would not recommend this place to anyone. It completely ruined our sense of peace and comfort for the night, especially after booking it based off of other reviews of cleanliness. The info sheet on the wall states the owners have "over 15yrs of hospitality experience", but I highly doubt this. I have had 3yrs experience with hotels/ motels and I already know how to better treat a customer and how to handle a situation. If something is dirty, replace it. It's that simple. Kindness is key. An apology makes a difference. I mentioned on check-out again and no attempt at an apology was provided. To the owners: If you are reading this, I believe it is in your best interest for a career change. Hopefully you can improve on your customer service.

We had the best service from the team at the Oamaru Motor Lodge. We were coming back from a concert in Dunedin and didn't make it to the accommodation until half past midnight. We had told them this in advance and they had left the room door open for us with the keys inside, with a little note on the table with the wifi password and some kind words. The place is lovely and comfortable, we would definitely come back!

I would certainly recommend this place. Had a king studio unit upstairs which was very clean and comfortable. They are spacious and with double glazing you don’t hear too much traffic even though it is on a main road. Ordered the continental breakfast which was great. Shower was great with plenty of hot water. Owners were very obliging and helpful. We would definitely stay again when visiting Oamaru.

An unexpected overnight stay for us and very pleased with our choice of motel. Very welcoming host who also recommended dinner which we were able to have delivered to our unit. The unit was very spacious, clean and well appointed. Would highly recommend.

Nice, central location and easy to find. The reception is very helpful and efficient and the room spotlessly clean with everything needed and in good condition. Awesome shower pressure too, not something always found in motels! Good value too. Couldn’t fault for business travel.

Hi is it true you charge after 1 hr of internet usage? What are Wifi conditions of use please?
Answer from Suzzieservice

Hello. Our policy is the first 2 hours internet each day of a quests stay is free of charge. We place a 2 hour free of charge limit on it as unfortunately we have experienced numerous guests in the past that download an excessive amount of data thus slowing the speed for other guests using the internet for booking and correspondence purposes. We are always negotiable though in genuine cases. And remember we do have fibre-optic (high speed) internet. Cheers. Colin
