Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a one bedroom unit so had plenty of space. After eating out we made use of Sky movies to watch a film. We slept well and all facilities were fine. Dedicated parking and given the motel is at the rear of the property you don't get traffic noise

Great place to stay - we didn’t have a booking but that wasn’t a problem. Staff at check in were great. The room was very clean and well appointed. Double glazed windows kept the road noise to a minimum. Wifi worked well. Plenty of choices of channels on Sky. I’d definitely come back.

First, let me say that I've never written a review on Trip Advisor before. When we arrived at the motel, the owners noticed that we were driven in by a tow truck as we'd lost the keys to our rental. Karen (I think that was her name??) at the front desk was so accommodating - she gave us recommendations for things to do on foot and even drove us to dinner at The Last Post - the fish and chips were quite good!

The next day as we finally got our keys - we just missed the courier and went out exploring and she drove around the city trying to find us! She eventually found us on the side of the road and drove us to the car shop to get our car! This is serious dedication to customer happiness and we were only staying one night!

After all of that - she gave us tips on how to get to where we were going and also suggested a few alternative routes. The hospitality alone makes this enough to be 5 stars in my book. The rooms were totally pleasant, as well - clean and quiet - nothing luxurious but still very comfortable.

Give this place a shot!

This is a very old motel and seems to have been renovated in bits and pieces. We had booked a Studio with a queen bed and were checked into Room 7 which was upstairs at the very end. The main entry was a sliding door and the lock didn't feel very secure.
Apart from the 2 flies in the room, it was clean, the lighting was ok with bedside lamps, wall lamps and a pendant light on the ceiling and one over the kitchenette area.
The room was quite spacious with 2 well worn tub chairs, a small TV on a stand and a dining table with 2 chairs. The kitchen had crockery/cutlery, a full stove and a fridge for those who wanted to dine in.
The bathroom was old with a tin basin, a moulded shower cubicle which was a bit small, the floor was lino and the toilet was separated from the rest of the area by a partition. Bathroom products were a paper sachet of shampoo and one of body wash. The lovely soft towels after a hot shower were welcome as was the comfortable bed.
We booked about 6 weeks in advance and most places were booked out on the day we required.
It was fine for an overnight stay, when passing through this area, but I would recommend looking at other options.

The price was pretty steep for a 1970 style block hotel unit. Whilst clean the beds were not that comfortable and the shower pressure below average. Oamaru was very busy so that may have inflated prices. Book early for better options and pricing.

We went there 1 night with 3 families and told host we have 5 kids and 1 baby(1 yrs and 7months).

The Host(Husband) brought baby cot as we requested and then suddenly he yelled to my wife and complaint my baby is not baby as she is working and touch windows.

What a Joke!!!!!

This host don't know what a service is and not welcome for kids.....

After we explained clearly to him about baby and he said " you r liar" and then he asked me to pay extra $20.00 for baby cot and yelled me " baby made window dirty with finger prints" and then host said " do you know how hard to clean the windows that's why she is not baby as she can walking and touch window etc...Oh my god.....

How come 1 yrs and 7 months baby is not baby?????

I seriously advice everyone is going to stay with kids in this terrible motel, be careful!!!!

They will make stories and trying charging extra.

We have own hospitality business in NZ for 15 yrs and I never understand hosts attitude and service...

We never go back here and tell everyone either!!!

Stayed there while passing through and had booked for two nights on account of ratings on Trip Advisor. Had a large room and smaller bedroom. Both walled in with cement blocks, and large room wide window which afforded no privacy unless you pulled the dark drapes entirely. Furniture is very dated and worn. Kitchenette had stove, small fridge, pots ,pans, cutlery all provided. Bed had several blankets and two electrical heat pads no wonder because the place is cold. A large heater electrical with a fan was also provided. The bathroom had shower stall with shower head at my chest level and toilet was inside little cubicle. The place was clean and the owner very nice. But someone should be able to find much better available at a fraction more of the price. I would not recommend it to any one I care for unless they were stuck.

Stayed here for 2 nights, and found it to be one of the cheapest in our 4 weeks in NZ. Within a brisk walk of the town centre, and very reasonable @ NZ$95 (£38) per night.
Spacious and comfortable accomodation, friendly and helpful proprietors.

One word of warning - don't get a take-away from the chinese just up the road out of town - it was dreadful - our worst chinese ever - and horrendously expensive.

Do, however, eat at Kingsgate Hotel Brydone in the town (walkable), walk the antique shops in the old town, visit the restored Totara Estate sheep farm, and see the penguins come ashore at night.

Good place to stay enroute to Christchurch and with a surrendiptitous discovery of old Oamaru, Victoria Street and area.

Large rooms, clean and adequate heating. Only issue is the slippery staircase up to the second floor.

Easy parking and friendly reception.
