Lovely big room with an industrial sea view. Awesome location within walking distance to lots of cafes, a brewery, the wharf and beach, Steampunk Museum and the awesome Oamaru Botanical Gardens. Amazing facilities and large common areas with lovely big windows out to the ocean. Vege garden and glasshouse in front of the property, and we were encouraged to help ourselves to fresh produce by the very kind and welcoming owner. Thanks so much for having us!

This is the nicest hostel I've ever experienced. The entire hostel was tidy and equipped with everything for a really enjoyable stay. We had a nice view of the bay, the bed and pillows were very comfortable, and the hosts were incredibly kind. Would definitely go back, and recommend to anyone looking for a stay in Oamaru!

We loved this hostel, very clean and tidy. Great location for walking into town and the waterfront. We loved the Scotts brewery! and The Last Post for dinner. Breakfast supplied was nice, I do prefer whole meal bread and my family are lactose intolerant so we supplied our own milk. Owner was friendly. Loved the ensuite room, just enough room for the 3 of us for 2 nights, wished we could have stayed longer. Was a little cooler than we are used to in Auckland but the hallway was heated and we had an adequate heater in our room, just kitchen and family room a bit cool first thing in the morning. My husband left 4 bottles of beer (by accident), enjoy!

Would not recommend. Walls are very thin so i could hear the guests next door coughing all night. The hostel was not up to standard in terms of cleanliness and the breakfast was very underwhelming. Would not stay again and would not recommend.

Hi Sarah, Thanks for your review. You had stayed at our dorm room in April 2021 at the rate of $33 per night including linen and free simple breakfast. I am not sure what is your cleanliness standard you referred. Our hostel is very clean and tidy. Especially our famous unique solid bunk beds that you stayed. We clean each bed in the dorm room daily, to ensure the beds and room are kept clean. After checking, I found that you had contacted us via email asking for beating room rate with Booking.com twice for the most expensive room with private bathroom, and ended up booked the cheapest one at dormitory. Then a few weeks after your stay, you had contacted us again asking for a full refund, trying to claim that you had bed bug bitten without any proof. Same night that you stayed, there is another person stayed at the bunk room and she was very happy. She even gave us 10/10 for cleanliness and a positive comment that she enjoyed our free breakfast as a bonus. Not many budget accommodation providing a free breakfast. (Toast, 8 types of jams, 2 type of bread spread, 2 type of cereals, milk, 3 types of juices, Coupland shortbread, weetbix, many sauces etc.) Her review is public and can be read at Booking.com .. Our free breakfast will stay for those people who appreciated. And now you gave us 1 star here and reasons are nothing about the bed bugs! We feel that this is unfair that you claimed our hostel are not clean and our breakfast is very underwhelming. For the thin wall, I never get people complain about it but if you choose to stay at dormitory, thin wall should not be your problem. We are happy if you would not stay again as we felt that you are a scammer who travelling with this method to get a free accommodation. Unfortunately it is not working with us. I responded this long for rising awareness to people and businesses around town. Kind regards, Karrie
