Detailed Reviews
We booked this hotel via Tourist Information Office of kaikoura when we did our Whale Watching cruise. We only stayed for one night in a two bedrooms unit. Clean and comfortable bedding. It was quite cold and we appreciate the heated bed. If you do not have car, it is unlikely convenient as it is not so close to restaurants. This is the only motels in New Zealand who had problem with electricity. It was a cold day, we wanted to boil water for a tea, suddenly all the electricity was off... no more heater no more light. We went to the office and the man did not seem to be surprised... he just walked to a small room near our unit and switched on something and voila.. the electricity was back. but we were advised to turn off one of the heaters if we want to use the kitchen electric utensils...

Note that I only give a place a 4 or 5 if it's exceptional - I still recommend a stay here. Cozy 2 bedroom for a young family of 4. 5min walk to town. Sounds of the beach (and a view) and away from the traffic noise that a lot of other Kaikoura motels have. Loved it with a old school swing and seesaw. Cafe 30s away.

We stayed here for two nights. We have to say the staff was so friendly and accommodating! Our room was comfortable and clean and had everything we needed! The location is excellent, right across the street from the beautiful ocean. For the great price, we highly recommend!

Among all the places I booked for our trip to New Zealand, this was the worst.
Booked a 2 Bedroom, very tired looking, beds were not firm. The best part we were only here for one night (thank God).
One of the things we signed up for was to swim with the dolphins (fabulous). And it helped that this was next to the meeting place of Encounter Kaikoura where we had to meet at 5:55 in the morning.
But the worst part was, walking into our room with the owners cleaning our room, removing all our stuff from the rooms and scolding us that check out was at 10am. We were there a little after 10am after our wonderful swimming with the dolphins!!! First of all, if they had told us upon check-in that check-out was at 10am then they have every right to scold us and remove our stuff from the room. The woman also scolded us for using the white bath towels for swimming with the dolphins. She said if we told them when we checked in that we were swimming with the dolphins, she would have given us a different set of towels. Hello? Am I missing something here? I told her we went to the reception last night and it was closed. I wanted to get extra towels and the password to the wifi. And she answered saying: " Just like you, we have a life, we also go out"... So this is how they treat you in this dump. I will never recommend this to anyone. It's ugly to start with anyway. And with this nasty behavior, it can really ruin your day!!! I just ignored her and collected our stuff and left. I didn't want her attitude to ruin anything for me especially since this was Easter Sunday...

its just so 1975, once you get inside, there is really little to recommend this place at $125. Small and dated. It a typical managed motel where the the owner is absent and lacking. If you want Internet you will find $5 lasts you no time , if you are a couple who need internet get ready for $20, bad showers , not don't do it, there is better up the road.

The beach was just over the road, so great scenery on your door step. I had a self contained studio unit. It was clean, comfortable and quiet. I have stayed here a few times and have always felt at home. The hosts were great and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks for a great stay.

We had a spacious room with three beds, enough room for two adults with a baby, manager was very friendly, room was not cleaned, only towels changed, perfect location directly at the water, very close to cafe encounter and other food places.

I stayed here with my two friends. We had the room on the sea front (10) which offered stunning views out to sea. The proprietor owns two tiny griffon dogs and they all offered a warm welcome. A small bottle of fresh milk was provided and we were able to park next to our accommodation.
My friends had the double room whilst I took the bed in the lounge. The lounge itself was very spacious and also comprised a kitchen area equipped with cooker, utensils, fridge and so on. The lounge offered a dining table for 4 and plenty of comfy seating along with the fantastic view out of the patio doors. The bathroom had a great shower and separate toilet. All was very clean and well maintained. The beds were all comfortable with fresh linen.
Norfolk Pine is a lovely leisurely stroll along the beachfront to the town centre where there is plenty to purchase foodwise and things to see. I was in town to go whalewatching with "Whalewatch"- make this a must do on your itinerary. The hotel though offers grassy areas and places to have a barbie if you didn't want to eat out in addition to a few playground items- such as a seesaw.
A very comfortable and enjoyable stay.

We arrived unbooked & grabbed the 2nd last available unit. Meredith, who greeted us was an absolute bubbly pleasure to meet. The unit was large, quiet & well equipped. Will we stay here again??? Hell yes, we will be very disappointed if when we next stay in Kaikoura we can't stay here. Thank You Meredith
