Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Lonely Planet 2010 stated that this was run by an enthusiastic couple, who have no doubt moved on. Instead we found a hostel in need of TLC but nevertheless we enjoyed a good stay at reasonable prices. The kitchen was well equipped and we found an older clientele which suited us fine.

We did a short overnight stay here. The staff were friendly, informative and helpful. we had made two separate bookings for our group ( due to what was available on the website), but were offered a shared room for just our group, which was idea

We stayed in a double en-suite room, the guy who checked us in was very friendly but they don’t except cards only cash or bank transfer which I found a bit odd. The room was fine, pretty basic but was quiet and was able to park outside. Kitchen was ok but a lot of the equipment was very old and there didn’t seem to be a general waste bin. Location very good though very close to the main street.

My stay at this facility was shockingly brief, and not at all out of whim on my part. I was there less than a day, owing to the fact that a friend came back to the premises with us late at night, sat on the upper bunk, and caused stale urine to rain down from the mattress above onto my sister's sleeping bag below. We found ourselves at 11pm having to seek alternative accommodations; fortunately, we had friends staying at a backpackers down the road, and they offered us their spare beds for the night.
We tried to address this matter with the owner the next day. He insisted that the mattresses were dry and there was no hint of any smell to them, nor to the room. He opened the room's door to show us, and the smell of stale urine immediately hit us. He refused to acknowledge my eyewitness account of the urine squirting from inside the mattress, tried to claim that the photos of the stale urine on the sleeping bag were of a different sleeping bag, and in short followed on with every possible trick to try and avoid responsibility for this egregious breach of basic health and hygiene protocols. He ultimately refused to refund anything other than our second booked and paid for night at the establishment, offering a paltry $10 on top to launder the sleeping bag. He then claimed that the mattresses were absolutely fine and proceeded to place them back on the bunks. This was in room 11.
All potential customers are well advised to avoid this establishment like the plague; which one might possibly catch in an establishment this bad if one does not. The owner does not care and will never cooperate, admit fault or even offer a basic refund for time during which one could not stay owing to the uninhabitable state of the room. Worse, he refuses to possess a mobile phone or any kind of social media presence, making contacting him in the first place a difficult proposition at best.

No soap at toilet when everyone are trying control coronavirus. It was not like just empty. completely no soap or sanitiser. Room was musty, towel was offensive germ smells, betting was smell of someones sweat and sebum. Toilet paper was the thinnest ever and the roll holder was restricting a tiny amount of toilet paper with each pull. It was very frustrating to use. A campsite has much better facilities.
We booked a twin room online but upon arrival we were told that all twin rooms were sold out and they provided us a dormitory room. No discount was offered. When we accused them, they said they are selling dormitory room as a twin intentionally. They took advantage and said "you can cancel it if you don't like it". This was at 9:30 pm when we wouldn't easily find alternate accommodation.

Granted, this is a backpackers. The kitchen looked pretty nice, but we didn't use it. However, it is not up to 1-star standard. I asked the owners if they were new (which would excuse some things) but they said they'd owned it "always".
There's never an excuse for dirty, which it was. There were kids' toys & equipment on the deck & in the way of the doors. The internet wasn't strong enough to reach to our room. The bathrooms (2-sort of-one with toilet & sink & one with shower & sink) had no hooks, shelves, storage. One didn't have a mirror & the other didn't have trash. The sheets were of less quality than I've seen available used at Goodwill & they were mismatched & not even on all the beds. There was very little space in the room, the bed (the queen, as opposed to the 2 sets of bunk beds) was squeezed up against the sliding glass doors to the deck, so zero privacy unless the curtains (also dirty) were pulled. The carpet was old & stained. The sofas in the common area were shoved all together & had shiny upholstery. The owners were juggling small children & were not particularly available. It was just not a great experience.

For me the rooms were dirty as were the surrounding grounds and TV Room, which had a motor bike parked in it but it was the only inside seating available. The toilets didn’t have hand towels to dry your hands but the looked clean, the shower was filthy and we were the first to arrive in our 8 bed dorm therefore, there was no way anyone had cleaned them from the previous people. Only positive I can say is the kitchen looked nice however but we didn’t use it. When we arrived, we didn’t know the only accept cash, so if you’ve book make sure you bring enough.

Super disappointed with this property! Incredibly dirty room, we left without staying, still were charged and when we tried to dispute payment were threatened with debt collectors. Unfortunately we paid this amount but definitely worth paying extra for somewhere different.
