Where do I start? The location was beautiful with birdsong as a background sound in the morning and evenings. We stayed in the yurt which was spacious, spotless and comfortable with a spotlessly clean wet room a few feet away. Fluffy dressing gowns and towels were provided along with heating should you need it. There was everything there you need ie. Kettle, coffee, crockery, cooking facilities; it was lovely to eat out in the open. Feeding the animals was such a highlight adding special interest to our stay there. The hosts were very friendly and obliging. It is literally a 6 minute drive from Wacky Stays into Kaikoura so very handy; it was lovely to be just outside in such a peaceful, natural location. I would have liked to have stayed longer and indeed I’d love to visit again and do a Llama Trek too!

Cute farm stay with unique "rooms" and authentic surroundings. We went there with our 1,5yr old daughter and stayed in the Tipi. It's a rather lange round tent with beds and a little kitchenette (fridge, water boiler), heater, ventilator, lamps and all essentials. The pictures are pretty accurate. Just 2 steps on the outside is a kitchen shed with gas stove, BBQ, sink and all necessary utensils, plates and such. Also, you have your private bathroom, a separate hut that's a wet bathroom but quite spacious as well. The water is hot and even during the bad weather we had it was OK to take a shower. Ne ready to go on the feeding tour at 8.30am or 5pm with the lovely work&travel staff that will tell you about all the different animals and their quirks as well as provide fresh eggs (you can literally grab them from under the hens). It's a bit like summer camp back in the day. Maybe a little less clean (yes, there is dirt so take shoes off at the door 😉) but definitely unique and a hit with the kids. The birds and animals might wake you early but that's what farm life means. Dare2try!

Really unique and enjoyable place to stay for a family of 5. We stayed in the Mongolian Yurt for 4 nights. Warm and spacious inside, we used the heater on chillier nights which was plenty. The outdoor BBQ station and kitchen was fully equipped and had covered seating so when the kids were asleep in the Yurt, the adults could have a glass of wine and a BBQ outside in peace with a mountain view backdrop. Only a 6 minute drive to town or the local whale watching tours for activities during the day. The kids did farm animal feeding every day and there was a litter of collie puppies (little bundles of fluffy joy!) which my boys loved. We had our own lawn area so the kids could play soccer or ring-toss (game provided on site) while adults had coffee. This is why I much prefer a private farm stay accomodation instead of an enclosed hotel room - the kids can roam. Bathroom was large, water was hot for all 5 of us, good water pressure. Owner and staff friendly and approachable. Farmer gifted us a basket of free fresh chicken eggs every day so we could have a cooked breakfast on the gas stove.

Had to give this place a go having already stayed in wine barrels and trains. They have done a brilliant job turning this into a decent place to stay and the cowboy theme runs throughout the wagon. Includes a toilet and a shower plus you have access to an outside kitchen as well as all the animals on site. Enjoy…….

I chose the tipi, it's cosy in there with the heaters on. The bed is comfortable and it was so lovely waking up with the tipi lit up in the morning sun and the birds in full voice. I had my own bathroom and cooking area. The host provided fresh eggs from the chickens that you get to help feed! In a penthouse shaped like a chicken.

A nice place for people who like animals. We really enjoyed watching the animals fed and interacting with them, especially the deer. It was lovely that Kevin gave us as many farm fresh eggs as we could eat. The area is pretty and bucolic. Overall it is a nice change from the air b and bs where we interacted only with a lockbox! Great night at Wacky Stays in the Colonial Wagon. Second time we have stayed here, first time was the Horse Truck, and will be back next year when the family come to stay. I’m sure we will also take in the Lama Trecking. Lit the fire under the outside bath and spent the night looking at the stars, was a tight squeeze with the both of us in there, but comfy. Two dressing gowns left for us to use for free. The wagon was very comfy and the heater was great, but didn’t really turn it on as the sun from the day kept it warm. Toilet and shower were nice and clean as was the general area. Cooking was in the outside bbq area which also included a pizza oven. You can pay extra for a continental breakfast, but we took our own food. We are long time campers/ glampers so used to looking after ourselves. Looking forward to next time…is it the Tipi or Train carriage

We loved our two night stay in the Yurt. The beds were very comfortable, the shower was suitably hot, the kitchen had everything we needed. We enjoyed meeting the various animals and hearing the chickens. Great experience and we definitely intend to come back.

We stayed in the train carriage with our tall 15 yo son and he was able to fit in the bunks.
The carriage was equipped with all the amenities we needed and the themed touches were cute.
We loved feeding the animals, a special shout out to Pegasus the llama.
Thanks to Kevin for making us feel so welcome, we enjoyed your unique property.

We are a family of 4 and stayed in the yurt for 2 nights. Big enough for a cot alongside the beds. Plenty of electric to charge phones and have heaters on when it was a bit cooler at night. A modern bathroom with a great, hot shower. Well equipped and covered kitchen. The animal feed was a bonus for our toddler - workers were so friendly and accommodating. We went whale watching which was incredible (seals, dolphins and humpback whale in October)! We had a peek at the train as another family weee staying and my toddler loves trains. It was super cool for slightly older kids as bunny beds. Highly recommend if you are visiting the area.
