Karen & Mick are hosts who really know how to make their guests feel welcome and at home. Our room (Seal) offered wonderful panoramic views out over Kaikoura and the mountain ranges beyond. A selection of teas, fresh ground coffee and a TV, comfortable bed, small table & chairs and ab en suite that catered to our needs all worked to make this a venue we wouldn't hesitate to revisit. All this and Mick's breakfasts? It would be hard to find somewhere better!
The only thing wrong here is that we didn’t stay for 2 nights. It is an amazing place - Karen and Mick were most welcoming and such a sociable couple. Jazz, the dog, fell into the same category! Our room - Dolphin - was extremely comfortable and spotlessly clean. We sat in the bay window sipping a wine looking out on to the mountains and the bay - truly special. Breakfast was delicious - one veggie breakfast and one homemade granola with berries and yoghurt, fruit juice, toast and preserves. Fine attention to detail and Mick is a fabulous cook and he has an amazing accomplice - Karen. This is THE place to stay in Kaikoura - thank you both.
Couldn't recommend Nikau Lodge enough. Karen and Mick are some of the nicest and friendliest people, the location is perfect and a short 5min stroll to the shops and restaurants. The rooms and their views make you never want to leave. Finally the food....Mick is genuinely passionate about cooking and this shows, amazing breakfast!! Will be back for sure and am recommending staying here to all who listen and will be passing through Kaikoura.
We stayed for two nights and found this a perfect retreat. The spacious, comfortable bedroom had good views over the town towards the coast and mountains. The hosts Mick, Karen & Jazz (the dog) were very friendly and helpful and prepared a lovely cafe-standard breakfast to set us up for the day. The Lodge is a short downhill walk to the central area for restaurants and information centre. It is an easy drive from the lodge out to the peninsula with its seal colony and walks. We would definitely stay again.
Nikau Lodge has excellent friendly and accommodating hosts who provided helpful information on the best things to do and the best places to eat which were spot on. We were given the beautiful 'Whale Room' with a peaceful view over Kaikoura. A high standard of cleanliness is maintained in a warm, home style environment. We enjoyed the lovely seating on the deck overlooking the garden with a cuppa and a book on our first afternoon. Mick's culinary skills provided us with restaurant quality breakfast on both days that really set us up for our day trips. Over breakfast we loved sharing travel stories with Mick and Karen - they have got some great stories! Although we rented a car, it is a fairly short walk down to the main part of Kaikoura village (steps but good exercise with outstanding view). We highly recommend any one spending some time at Mick and Karen's Nikau Lodge for relaxing, refreshing and taking in the local culture.…
