Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Motel couldn’t be in a better location beautiful views of the Kaikoura foreshore and coastline. The accommodation I guess hasn’t changed in many years some TLC and new paint could help. Our unit once the car garage had all we needed and the price was value for money. It’s not easy managing a older style accommodation the units were tidy & clean plus the manager was very friendly and helpful.

A great spot to stay about equal distance to center of town and Point Kean. The buildings are old and a little tired, but large, clean and comfy with a fabulous view. Staff addre helpful. Great value for money.

We stayed for 3 nights & were made very welcome by the managers Gordon & Donna. Our room was spacious with a very comfortable bed & modern wet room bathroom (would be good for disabled). Free wifi (although wifi connection was not always good). Kitchenette was adequate, and there's a very well equipped covered barbecue area. Reasonably priced & great location across the road from the sea & a couple of minutes drive from town centre. Would stay here again.

The first thing we noticed when we walked into our motel room was the paint peeling of the walls. All around the unit there were fingerprints because the staff couldn't be bothered.

We are also supposed to do our own dishes, by hand. There is no oven, the closest thing we have to an oven is the pizza oven they provide. One of the switches also doesn't do anything and one of the biggest faults of this place is that the TV doesn't work.

There are also a few cobwebs here and there and one of the lamps doesn't work.

This motel gives you the feeling that it stopped caring a long time ago... Very tired and in need of a spruce up. No heating at all in the bathroom and a single fan heater in the main, which I had to leave running on full all night just to stay warm. It has most basic facilities, but in a cursory tick box manner. I don’t like doing negative reviews, but I couldn’t recommend this place when I’ve had substantially better elsewhere, for the same price.

We stayed here for 3 nights in the amazing upstairs unit with a fantastic seaview. Taking the suitcases upstairs is the only downside. Huge room with everything you need in the kitchen. Good ceiling fan. Good size bathroom. The owners had done all their laundry so it wasn't a problem when I asked about doing some laundry for us. They had some good local knowledge about fishing and whale watching excursions.

We stayed here for one night and it was a great little spot. Although it is old, it is really nice and well maintained. It has a bbq and camp kitchen on site with everything you need readily available. Opposite the foreshore with beautiful views. Definitely value for money

The lady owner was singly the most unfriendly and hostile owner/staff I have ever met throughout my visits around the world. Upon arrival during check in, the first thing we were informed was that the check out time was strictly at 10AM and secondly, cooking seafood was not allowed in the vicinity. There was no indication from us that we were going to do either!

Probably since we were Asian, we were assumed to not understand English or would purposely ignored her instruction which we found offensive!

Avoid at all cost!

Some reviews have described this motel as tired and to be honest it was a bit. However, it was very clean and comfortable and the owners could not have been more friendly or helpful. The main reason for staying here however has to be the amazing sea views. We had the upstairs apartment and it was fantastic.

Asked for a room with a sea view (as advertised on their website). Instead my view was obscured by a giant truck belonging to one of the other guests. When I asked the owners if they could arrange the truck be moved, my request was ignored. Gorgeous night, full moon, but NO SEA VIEW - see photo "my actual view" and compare with their website photo.
