13 Quiet ground floor studio and 2 large 2 bedroom units ,2 Access units. Photo is of the Newer Studio units we have 6 older units which are clean and comfortable. The other 7 units are approx 8 years old . We are along the Esplanade through the main town centre .away from the busy highway.

This is a basic motel and we guess adequate for its price. The beds are comfy enough and it has a modern shower. However cleanliness is rather remiss. There were hairs on the floor, stains down the bedside drawer, the oven was filthy and the kitchen very old and tired. The note on the fridge stating in bold letters that clients will be fined if the dishes are not washed and dried was appalling. This should be the responsibility of hosts to ensure they are done appropriately between guests as there is no guarantee previous guest did this well. This is very questionable infection control. Hosts were not at all friendly. Limited charging/power outlets.

HOST DID NOT CARE AT ALL. WOULDN'T SEND ME BOOKING DETAILS. JUST ASKED OUR $150 PAYMENT BEFORE GIVING US UNIT KEY AND NUMBER SAYING NOTHING ELSE. THOUGHT WE PAID FOR GOOD ROOM WITH FULL KITCHEN. UNIT WAS GRUBBY EVERYWHERE.SMALL KITCHEN ONLY WITH MICROWAVE. BATH ROOM DRAIN HOLE CAKED IN OLD GRIME AND DIRTY DOOR AND FLOOR . COUCH WAS RIPPED, VERY DUSTY AND HAD SMEARS AND SPLATTERS EVERYWHERE.SPLATS ON KITCHEN WALLS,DIRTY LIGHT, FITTINGS AND DOORS. ONE TOWEL WAS GREY AND HARD OTHER WHITE FLUFFY. 2 HANGERS ON A WALL HOOK FOR CLOTHES . SUBSTANDARD,SLACK AND UNHYGIENIC UNIT WAS EXPENSIVE AND UNFRIENDLY COMPARED TO HANMER OR CHRISTCHURCH MOTELS. Great place, excellent value for money, the room was clean and tidy, a bit dated. Staff/owner was very happy and pleasant. I will certainly will be back. Handy to town, beach across just across the road.

Jo and Brad upgraded our two night stay from a studio to a two-bedroom unit which had a complete kitchen with large fridge -extremely clean and tidy with very comfortable beds. Units located down a driveway off the main road - so nice and quiet. Jo could recommend places to eat and places to visit. Very friendly and homely place to stay.

Made a very random spontaneous trip to Kaikoura and after getting no service from motel next door wandered here and was greeted with enthusiasm and given a fair rate for a nights stay plenty of tea and coffee in the room with enough milk for one person and helpful tips on where to eat dinner. Room is spacious and notified immediately of plumbing work being done saving me the embarrassment of a cold waterless shower haha

Really disappointing stay here. On the positive side, it's across the road from the beach and the wi-fi worked well. That's where the good part ends. The room was old and grotty and felt more like the sort of guesthouses I stayed in when I was a backpacker. Everything was dated, the carpet filthy, the bathroom beyond basic and everything felt so tired from the old and tatty sheets on the bed, the thin towels etc. Our stay was not helped by people in the adjacent room grazing their car up against the concrete outside our room at 5:30 AM. Not the proprietor's fault, of course, but some of the people staying there struck us as dodgy. Even if this room was only $80 / night, I would have been disappointed. It was just plain grotty and did nothing to make our stay in Kaikoura one to remember.…

Recently stayed overnights at these motels and feel that that the price charged didn’t reflect the standard presented while bedding was ok, bathroom facilities were some what lacking with soaps and shampoos at a minimum.

If you are considering staying at this place, do yourself a favour & just don’t. Grim is the only way I can describe it. Dated, dusty and in desperate need of a refurb, with nylon carpets & bedspread. My husband refused to shower as it was so ‘grotty’. It is on the beachfront, but please do not expect sea views as there aren’t any. There are basic cooking facilities but cooking fish is banned (in a seaside town?) and if you do cook the smoke alarm goes constantly. We booked last minute for 2 nights as our plans changed - we only lasted one. Seriously. Swerve this one.
