This is a comfortable and clean motel. We had a “superb ocean view” room and our large glass screen doors did indeed give us an awesome view of the mountains and the ocean. It is a short drive into town but if you want to run to the seal colony or walk to the Pier Hotel for a great meal it is well placed. The free DVDs are also a nice touch.

Without infamy without praise, a simple motel like so many others we took only because it was the only one that would leave us the keys even if we arrived late at night. Room ok clean although in the fridge we found ice cream of previous guests. Nothing special even if the room is a bit old. Large parking lot

Staff (owners?) very friendly and helpful, and our unit was very clean, roomy and comfortable. Good value - was surprised by how expensive accommodation is in Kaikoura. Bit disappointed to find when we arrived, an at the gate price advertised lower than we had paid on booking.com - may be to ring and check first. Location is fine if you have a car. No view but close to the beach. Quite a lot of traffice noise at night (trucks off the ferry coming through on the main road?) and also a train overnight. A limit on internet (although more than we needed) and kept dropping and had to reenter password each time we came back, which is unusual in accomodation these days.

We booked via expedia and I made a mistake to have my children booked but without their ages. When I came to pay they requested that I pay $40 for each child with took the booking to NZD 200/night! (you can get much much better places for that money in Kaikoura during Spring). My expedia booking said "Standard Apartment, 1 Bedroom (4 People)".
The place was overall clean, but all kitchen utensils were very dirty. There was butter and pieces of squashed muffins on several plates. Wine glasses and silverware equality dirty. We had to clean everything ourselves.
We also found a lamp which had the cable stripped in a 1cm section. The lamp was plugged in a multiplug which made it even more dangerous as the kids plugged their electronics next to that stripped cable and could have touched it. When my husband brought the lamp to the reception and showed it, the staff did not apologize or though it was dangerous to have the cable stripped.

Location, amenities, room setup is good and functional. They took my booking and assisted with a very late checkin (after 8pm when the office closes). You can park close to the roon which is handy. Downsides are view from kitchen and bathroom uis terrible, petrol station and public bathrooms, price is high for holiday stop, I suggest to choose something on the Esplanade if holidaying. Beds are too soft for us as a couple (Im a 120kgs, my wife is 50kgs) but thats a personal preference. In a nutshell, good for a stop if passing thru, but spend more time looking if you want an experiance.

Well appointed and clean motel. Arrived at Easter to find a special gift of Easter eggs in the fridge which the family loved. Very happy to provide extra linen and free washing powder for the washing machine. Nice and close to the beach and supermarket just down the road.

Lyn and Garry must get a lot of customers from the interisland ferries because they don't seem to mind what time you have to arrive. Even really late, one of them is there to hand welcome you and over the key. The units are very tidy, with really comfortable beds and linen and a good shower. Highly recommended.

This is a very satisfactory hotel, however the standards and amenities are at the very basic level. For example, there was no closet, only a provision for hanging clothes under the TV shelf. The TV was a 32" model. Overhead fixtures were basically an exposed standard single bulb with a glass sconce. This property seemed to be newer, perhaps rebuilt after the recent earthquake. There is direct access to the beach, however it is a beach of gravel, not sand.

Staff here are excellent. Accommodation is clean and comfortable. Great access to the beach and of course views of the mountains. It is close to the train line - heavy sleepers wont notice but lighter sleepers may.
