Nestled on a prime beachfront, Kaikoura Peketa Beach Holiday Park is lauded for its stunning ocean views and easy access to outdoor activities and local attractions. While the camp fees and location are generally seen as reasonable, opinions on value are divided due to concerns about customer service and additional costs. Accommodations are clean but some suggest the need for updates and better heating.
The campsite's amenities garner praise for their condition and the relaxed, beachy atmosphere is a highlight for guests, though a few felt certain areas lacked warmth. Overall, the park's cleanliness and friendly service stand out in traveler feedback.

Detailed Reviews
Lovely few days on power site with caravan. Very close to beach for beach walk. Very clean tidy facilities. Onsite shop to provide basic necessities and best hot chips made to order! Contrary to previous comment we saw and heard no sign of beach/motor bikes, all permanent caravans were very tidy and well kept. Still lots of other free sites. Lovely hosts - will recommend to others and be back! Thank you

We spent a couple of days there. It is close to the Kaikoura airstrip. We took a whale watching flight with Kaikoura Air. Very nice trip, much better than being on boat in rough water. The Camper site is well organized and you keep your spot, when you take your Camper and drive to the nearest city for dinner, lunch or sightseeing. Nice view, right on the beach. Can recommend this place. Nice and helpful people.

I cannot say enough good things about this campsite -the toilets and showers are spotless, there are great facilities for washing up and the camp sites are right on the beach so you can go to sleep with the sound of the waves crashing on shore. The playground for children is well equipped including a flying fox. I hardly saw my grandson in the two weeks we stayed as he quickly made friends and had a wonderful time. There is a small shop onsite with freshly baked warm sourdough available every morning and the campground is dog friendly. Rex and Ruth are very helpful and friendly hosts who go above and beyond to make you comfortable. Highly recommend.

We use a tent site for only $36.00 a night. They allowed us to bring our pet dog. We got access to water, showers, toilets and the kitchen. Poor internet coverage for partner and myself so we brought one of their wifi packages for $5 that gave us 10GB of data or '1 day' however we noticed it only allowed us to hook into our social media pages. I couldn't get onto my online banking that was a little stressful. But other than that the stay was amazing and we would come back. What you get is great for the price. Also it's tucked away under some trees which makes for great windbreakers. Our tent and gazebo did not show signs of blowing at all. Perfect!

We stopped off here in December, just before Christmas. The camp was a perfect little beach front oasis! We were in our van, and could park anywhere, right on the beachfront. The showers were very good pressure, bathrooms clean, kitchen was great for washing up and preparing food and we enjoyed cooking on the BBQ. We had some fun playing mini golf and the surf at the river mouth was the perfect cherry on top of our stay! The couple at reception were lovely and made us feel extremely welcome. In fact we booked for an extra night because we just didn't want to leave! I have already recommended Peketa holiday park to anyone passing through. Thanks for the great stop off guys and we will be back!

We won’t be visiting this campsite again. Our experience with the owners started late the night before we were to arrive. They called to announce they’ve had a request for a large group coming in and wanted to move us off the beach front powered site that we had booked, confirmed and paid for, and onto another cramped noisy area with no view that we did not want to stay in. So we said no thank you. The next day we rang at 10am asking if we could park up early so we could go for a bike ride. They were going to allow us, until they realised we were the ones refusing to move. Instead they said we could park the caravan in the storage paddock until a “site became clear”. At that time we realised one of our ebikes had no charge on it as we had an invertor failure the night before. So we asked if we could park bikes by the bbq area to charge while we waited for our campsite. They said yes but there would be an extra charge. I checked out the area of beachside sites while we waited and noticed an empty one by the toilets. We asked if we could use that one and was told snarkily that wasn’t our site. So we asked if they could ring us when our site became available and we’d go into to town to wait. Meanwhile at least the bikes were charging. Finally we called them at 2pm and they said the site was free. We get there and discover that it’s the site that was empty 4 hours earlier. Plus our bikes had been unplugged and were not at all charged. So we had to wait another 2 hours to get a partial charge and start riding at 4:30pm. Ruined an entire day of a two day holiday. They were nasty, unaccommodating, rude and spiteful. No way to run a hospitality business. Will be spreading the word that profit over customer service is all they care about.

We are very sorry that you feel that you where not accommodated well. We rung you on a request from an in the camp customer and it was absolutely know problem that you choose to stay on your site. We have lovely big sights but where very happy to put you on a beachfront site like you requested. It was just an request. Check in is around 2pm, you where asking at 10am and often we may allow an yearly check in but unbeknown to you a campervan was on that sight and had just driven out for a bit and came back as had organised with management a later check out. Guess with freedom camping the night before you do feel like coming in early but it is always a jiggle to get people out and others in especially on a long busy weekend. We are sorry that someone took it upon themselves to unplug your bikes, we thought that at a charge of $5.00 for a 2hr charge was reasonable and it was out of our control that it was unplugged. Talking to the team here, it appears that we did not hear you ask us to ring you so we are sorry about that. We feel we actually accommodated you the best we could for all your request and in a very busy weekend, sometimes we just cannot accommodate all request.

We were so lucky to have a spot next to the sand mound that you cross to get to a black sand desolate beach. We loved bringing our chairs and sitting on the beach with a book. The showers and sinks to wash dishes were good. Some of the sinks had dish soap you could use.

We were lucky enough to get a beachfront site for our pop-top campervan over Anzac weekend. It was heavenly. Didn't want to move on and lingered about on the Monday. Very dog friendly with all the dogs we saw being very well behaved. Will definitely stay again. Easter and Anzac weekend the campground was very busy but no queues for the toilets or showers and no noise at night. A very well run business.

This holiday park is for those who don’t need/want all the fancy facilities that other holiday parks in NZ have (pools, kids activities, etc.). This is a basic camping facility right on the beach. If you are in a campervan you can pull right up to the beach. The beach is miles long and when we were there it was deserted. The camp owners are extremely friendly and helpful and you can order fresh sourdough bread every morning. If you are a beach lover this is a must. By the way it’s about a 10 minute drive into Kaikoura. No noise from the landing field next door (whale watching flights). Enjoy!

The site is very dated and has a lot of long stay residents, think campers with no wheels, fencing, and tatty awnings. Everything looks old and could do with a refurb. I honestly don't think it was worth the $50 a night when we've spent less and got more at other sites in South Island. Charged $5 extra for WiFi which refused to connect long enough to do anything, the signal was very poor. The images with their posting make it all look very charming which is why I booked it along with positive reviews, sadly I do feel they fall short of reality.
Location wise, it is right on the main highway 1, I'm a heavy sleeper (will sleep through the loudest of storms) and I was aware of the flow of trucks all night, along with the train(s). On the plus side, we were right beside the beach but sadly did not see any whales or dolphins.

Thank you for staying with us. Just to clarify, we don't have long term residence, they are like their batches. The come and stay and then they go home. They all are removable so they all are caravans and they all look after them, neat and tidy, clean and their holiday home. Yes, our park is an older clean park but where else can you get a mountain on one side and the sea on the other. Hope you arrived home safely

Hi Liz, Sorry I did answer your question. Yes you can leave your caravan in the storage area. The cost is $6.00 per week payable monthly. Your dog can come with you, he|she just needs to stay on lead whilst in the park but we do have a NO DOG policy for the period 22 Dec - 4 Jan.
