Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

RESTAURANT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED!!! This place is shocking. Ripping off tourists because they know they're one time visitors. Place is dirty. Staff unhelpful. Seafood ruined! Glasses dirty, bathrooms with toilet paper and wet all over floor and generaly dirty. If that's what the bathrooms are like then I hate to think of the standard in the kitchen.Went for a celebration and wished I'd gone somewhere else. Do not buy the crayfish unless you want to be ripped off. You pay for a certain weight and we ordered two sizes. One was $40 more - supposed to be a big crayfish. We both received a half each of a small crayfish. We put the shells together and they were from the same crayfish. Barely legal and it was like rubber!!!. Could not cut with knife. The Paua you could have used to mend a Tyre. The chips were nice though lol and the desserts were edible. Would not go again.

We recently stopped in here for a drink so as to soak up the view to the snowy mountains across the water. We looked at the menu and decided to eat lunch here. It was just fabulous, well presented and so tasty. We liked the place so much we went back for dinner. Great place, highly recommend.

This place would have to be one of the best restaurants anywhere in the south island. It was absolutely chocks when we dined here sodont forget to make a booking. Service and staff were very friendly and efficient. Food was absolutely delicious and worth the price that you have to pay. Highly recommend.

Awesome stay at the heritage hotel on the kaikoura coast. We enjoyed a wine on the balcony looking at the sea which is only a few metres away. We booked dinner in the restaurant and just as well as it was booked out. Enjoyed a seafood chowder soup followed by a seafood platter. Went for a lovely walk around the coast ending up in South Bay.There is a short cut which takes you to the esplanade.

This is a must do when visiting Kaikoura. The crayfish meal was outstanding, with upto 4 size options to choose from. The mussels were superb as were the whitebait. We were advised to book in advance, so expectations were high. Pleased to say we were not disappointed, the staff, venue, location and of course the kaimoana were all excellent and could not be faulted. Keep up the great work and compliments to the whole team. Will definitely be back when in the area next 🥰

Fabulous service, stunning views, and absolutely the best seafood. The seafood chowder is the best you will ever taste! The beer from the brewery only 3.3 kms away was definitely an added bonus. Only travelling through wish we lived nearby.

As soon as we entered this establishment we were greeted joyously and shown to a table at the window with their amazing views. Our server was friendly and attentive, explaining the local area and history throughout the evening. We had the large crayfish and pork rolls - absolutely divine!! Great ambiance not too loud and good mood lighting. Would highly recommend! Ramp access for disabled and lots of parking.

Visited the Pier hotel for the restaurant to check-off a todo item in Kaikoura: have crayfish. Absolutely fresh and well-cooked, simmered in good garlic butter sauce. Seafood chowder is also highly recommended (packed with seafood and not just potato pieces in some other restaurants). Also, nice view when dining outdoors.

We stayed here knowing that it was a very basic old style hotel. The best rooms have either a private balcony with sea views or you can choose a room with a private ensuite. The lower priced rooms use a shared bathroom. There is a common shared lounge with TV and breakfast bar where you can help yourself to the continental breakfast. Unfortunately, however the lighting in the room was extremely poor, a totally inadequate eco fluorescent bulb. (actually that was also the case for the room we stayed in. This would be so easy to improve) While the accommodation is pretty basic the restaurant in this hotel is actually extremely good.

Had to stop and have a crayfish meal at the home of, we’ll crayfish! In addition to the standard drinks choices a few craft beers on offer. The staff are really friendly and accommodating, even including a courtesy vehicle back to the hotel after too much to eat and drink. We’ll worth a visit, with great outdoor area to enjoy a drink and soak in the amazing views.
