Had to stop and have a crayfish meal at the home of, we’ll crayfish! In addition to the standard drinks choices a few craft beers on offer. The staff are really friendly and accommodating, even including a courtesy vehicle back to the hotel after too much to eat and drink. We’ll worth a visit, with great outdoor area to enjoy a drink and soak in the amazing views.
Booked on a busy night. Arrived & waited 15 minutes for drink, & menu. Placed drinks order & meal order together. Had ordered entree & 2 mains, one without mushrooms. Drinks arrived, then main meal arrived 35 minutes later with NO ENTREE and also mushrooms on the plate ? Drinks were not refreshed or offered to be refreshed, which we would have and we would have ordered a dessert but with no service we decided to pay & leave . Went to counter THREE staff members walked past us with NO acknowledgement. We waited to pay finally got served , we were not asked were the meals okay or anything . What happened to good old fashioned service? Very disappointed in the service or lack of . The meal was however nice.
The legendary Pier Hotel restaurant certainly lived up to it’s reputation. We were told about the place while on a walk up the Kaikora heads and warned to book ahead. Luckily we did as the place was packed when we arrived. Service was excellent and the food lived up to its reputation. I had the crayfish chowder and my partner tucked into the calamari. Both dishes were good but the salads were exceptional. Definitely a place to add to your list for this area.
We recently stayed a night at The Pier as a stopover en route to Christchurch. It is a lovely historic old building. We were running late due to a delayed ferry, however, the staff member was accommodating and it was not an issue. The room was very comfortable and clean. A free continental, help yourself, breakfast was provided which even included some gluten free options. Gorgeous views from our room and the balcony. Would not hesitate to stay again.
Great service and an excellent meal after a long trip from Wellington. We arrived into Kaikoura town at 7pm and ended up here. What an oasis. We appreciated the welcoming staff who found us a table with no prior reservation. We will be back!
Went here for dinner on Sunday night. Had no reservation but were seated immediately. The staff were very attentive despite it being quite busy. Had drinks refreshed and food arrived quickly and was plentiful and very good quality
The Pier Hotel is an old fashioned pub style Hotel that sticks by the old principals of providing great customer service. Dinner was excellent so you need to book if you want to get in over a weekend. But it's worth the extra effort The rooms are pub rooms with mostly shared amenities but the price reflects this. Great value for money. Like the title says - a fantastic experience and a great weekend away.
Had a quick stop in today. Sat outside while kids shared a bowl of hot chips. Ordered a single shot Americano with a side of cream. Coffee was stronger than when I've accidentally received a double shot from any coffee cart/shop before. Took it back and it explained it was too strong to drink. Was told 'sorry about that'! No offer to make another one or to have my money back. Extremely disappointing.
We were recommended here by our hosts and it was worth the walk, which is a lovely walk along the beach anyway. The pier is full of atmosphere and buzzing, so not a quiet romantic sort of placeb but great for people watching. The food was great, we both had lobster. You can also sit outside and watch the world/sea go by - if you can grab a seat on the verandah even better! They even offer a free taxi service back to town which means you dont have to drive, I'm hoping this catches on in the UK! It is very busy so book early.
We stayed on a thursday night - when we arrived the earliest we could get a table at the restaurant was 8:30pm so if you plan to eat there call ahead and book a table. The rooms are upstairs and are quite basic with shared toilet and bathroom facilities. There is a hand basin in the room. The decor is tired and in need of renovvation but that is reflected in the price. That said we enjoyed our stay and sat out on the veranda upstairs with a bottle of wine while we waited to be seated in the restaurant. The outlook is fantastic up to the fishing pier and across the bay to the mountains - quite magical. The restaurant was busy and good value with a nice choice of seafood. I would stay there again,
