We stayed here on New Years Eve with our infant daughter. Safe to say this place was perfect! Our room was beautiful and super clean, lovely products in the bathroom from the local Lavendar farm. The outside was beautifully laid out and sunny with a great view of the mountains. Breakfast was delicious and our daughter loved seeing the animals! Thank you! Highly recommend!

We have just spent a great weekend at the B & B. Our dog had so much fun with the owner's dogs that we barely saw him. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. There were high winds during our stay so we made good use of the lounge, wifi and Netflix. Feeding the lambs, pigs, cows, goats and alpacas was pretty special, and the breakfast was stunning.

An 8 acre farmstay, just off the road, north of Kaikoura. There are pigs, goats and alpacas and comfortable rooms. Great views of the Kaikoura range from the house. Just 7 minutes away from the town centre yet in a rural setting.
Kevin is a wonderful host and humourous to boot. He and his son Liam have just taken the property over from the previous owner.
We stayed here 2 nights, and if you have the opportunity to do so, do stay here! Kaikoura is a lovely place and Awatea is a perfect base for the area if you have a car.

This was a 'ten out of ten' experience for us, in a very tranquil rural setting. We really enjoyed out time here. The B&B was very clean and comfortable and we both had a very good nights sleep in what was a very comfortable bed. The shower had good strong pressure. Kevin is a great host and a mine of information on local 'stuff'. We also enjoyed our interactions with Fat Bob and Boston (Kevins two dogs)The breakfast was great and set us up well for the day.

We spent two nights at Awatea this past week and it was delightful. It is conveniently located just off Highway 1 and easy to find. It is only a short 10 minute drive into the main street of Kaikoura.
Awatea is a quiet retreat with various animals in the fields leading up to the house and that gives it a real country atmosphere. The three dogs that try unsuccessfully to herd up the animals were there to welcome us. (We had to be careful of the ducks that took up camp under our SUV in the mornings to keep out of the sun) We stayed in the Blue room which was spacious and bright, looking out onto a patio and the gardens. The WifI connection was good and Alison is a lovely and helpful host. We would recommend her B & B.

My partner and I just had a wonderful weekend stay at Awatea Country Bed & Breakfast.
Our room was spacious and equipped with all the necessary creature comforts, including a flat screen TV, electric blankets, extra seating and a large ensuite (with great water pressure!). Our room also came with a view of the snow-tipped Kaikoura ranges.
The B&B is situated between the mountain ranges and the sea, with views of both, and is a ten minute drive from Kairkoura town centre. The wider property is also home to an array of friendly farm animals.
Alison, the hostess, was inredibly accomodating and even helped plan our weekend excursions at our request.
We will definitely be back.

Very spacious bedroom and large modern bathroom with locally-made toiletries (long-lasting lavender fragrance). The breakfast was superb and plentiful. Fresh fruits and yoghurts, cooked English-style as well as cereals. Home-made pancakes, waffles etc, also served daily. Kevin was a great host with a terrific sense of humour and always a joke on hand. We had a tour of grounds to meet (and feed), the goats, the kunekune piggies and llamas. Beds/Pillows are always subjective. Both were a little soft for our preference, but beautiful linens and large towels, including grey facecloths (for removing makeup/sunscreen - thank you). On a side note, if you do the whale-watching trip DO take sea-sickness pills if you are at all in doubt. I have never witnessed such spectacular vomiting by so many people as on our trip!

We stayed at the Awatea B&B in Kaikoura for one night at the end of our New Zealand roundtrip. Alison is a very friendly host who offers spacious, clean rooms and a delicious, rich breakfast. This B&B is like a little farm: pigs, chicken, horses, dogs, sheep, goats, lamas/alpakas... Very nice. Recommended!!
