Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights at the Waters Edge B&B in Kaikoura from 14 March 2012. We had a relaxing stay with our hosts providing a very friendly welcome. The accommodation is quiet, modern, clean, comfortable and very spacious. It was like having your own apartment with a lovely deck overlooking the water.

The breakfast was self serve continental style (toast, cereal, juice, fruit, tea etc) and suited us very well. It was great sleeping in and getting our own breakfast whatever time we wanted. It was also a good change from the hot breakfasts we had been having including eggs, bacon etc. Our hosts ensured that the breakfast was gluten free for my wife.

The location was ideal for us with parking off the road in the driveway. You could drive in one end and out the other. The view from the B&B was fantastic with the snow capped mountains going all the way to the sea. There is a good restaurant (Green Dolphin) and a nice pub within walking distance from the B&B. Our only regret was that we should have stayed 3 nights as there are lots of things to do in Kaikoura which is such a beautiful place to visit.

Our room was in fact half a house, though we had complete privacy with our own entrances, own porch with deck, and even the whole driveway. Very comfy and a view to die for, waking up to mountain n sea right outside our bedroom window. In the evenings if weather permits, sit on the deck n enjoy a glass of wine, and just enjoy the view. The beach is right next to the deck, and we had a lovely time just walking along the beach. The only improvement I can suggest if any, is a slightly bigger breakfast table.

Marilyn & Keith were very friendly and accomodating. The view was wonderful. Our "room" included a large sitting area as well as the kitchen area. Deck availability. No on-site internet. Breakfast table was quite tiny. The large space was great for re-packing. Excellent recommendation for a restaurant.

We thought Water's Edge was good value for money and it was the cheapest B&B we stayed at in NZ, so perhaps our gripes are because we'd got used to better places. The space and location are the main pros - it's within a very short walk of a nice pub and the Green Dolphin restaurant. Cons were a very mediocre delivered breakfast, no hanging space for clothes and a makeshift 'kitchen' on top of a desk. We didn't feel that comfortable here.

Appropriate value for the $. While the view is good, it's not tremendous. The only reason I say this is if you're in the guest suite, your straight out view is 1/2 over an abandoned fish shack and 1/2 a beautiful view to the water. If you angle your chair just right in the sitting room, you've got a great 100% view of the water. Very friendly and accommodating hosts. A 15 - 20 minute walk from town.

We stayed with Keith and Marilyn for two nights and wished we could stay longer. The location of their B & B is just superb. Right on the seafront with just a gravel road separating you and the sea. The views of the mountains dropping into the sea are stunning. The accomodation is spotlessly clean, with a nice bathroom and a modern bedroom. The bed was a little soft for us but we do like a firm mattress. Otherwise it was perfect, very nice to be self contained and Marilyn and Keith do absolutely everything to make your stay good. It is also very quiet and peaceful. There are great walks from the house, Kaikoura is brilliant, and we would highly recommend Watersedge. Also ask for directions to the roadside fish barbecue cafe - it is superb!!!!!!!!!!!

We only stayed one night in Kaikoura, but Water's Edge was perfect for us. The location is ideal, right by the water at the edge of town, quiet spot, but an easy walk into town. The view is spectacular, mountains, sea, the wharf, right outside your door. The room includes a huge lounge and a lovely deck, so lots of space to spread out. The DIY breakfast of toast, cereal, juice, fruit, coffee, tea, etc. suited us perfectly to have before we headed off to our whale watching trip. The Green Dolphin restaurant right across the road was excellent for dinner.

Watersedge is located just outside the town centre of Kaikoura - 3 or 4 min drive, 15 min walk. Beautiful view over the bay and excellent hospitality. Breakfast was ok, toast, yogurt, muesli and some tinned fruit. Bed was rather soft. Room was great size and there is also a private lounge to relax in, although much better to be outside enjoying the scenery! If you stay here, definitely try out the Green Dolphin restaurant, just a couple of minutes walk away. Am still dreaming of the seafood pasta - to die for

Marilyn and Keith have hived off half their house to create a self contained apartment right on the water. There is a microwave, kettle and toaster but no real cooking facilities if that is your interest. Breakfast is a basic continental offering: bread, cereal, juice, coffee, tea. However for dinner you are right across the street from one of the best restaurants in town: The Green Dolphin. Both the bedroom and living room areas have wonderful views of the water and at night you can step out onto the deck for a breathtaking view of the milky way. It's a good 25 min walk into town so a car is a must. However if you are up for it, it is a great starting point for the circular walk around the end of the peninsula (about 3 hours).

We will never stay anywhere else when in Kaikoura - this is truly the best! It has the rare combination of total privacy as well as the warmth and friendliness of a b& b.
All aspects of this amazing accommodation are excellent, and we were tempted not to ever leave! One of Kaikoura's best restaurants is 2 minutes walk down the road.
Keith and Marilyn were so welcoming and immediately made us feel at home. They were there if we needed them, yet we had amazing privacy.
Location is stunning - right on the waters edge with those spectacular views of the sea and snow covered mountains that is a world speciality.
We had a truly wonderful long weekend there, and we are looking forward to returning again and again.
