Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Definitely one of the best hostel lodge that I ever stayed. The shared space I.e. living room, dining space and the view is awesome. Not to say shower facilities are great. Will stay here if I come back kaikoura for another visit. Highly recommended, best value for money!

Me and my husband have been travelling the South Island and wasn’t sure what to expect from this place. But we were welcomed by Mike and shown around. Place was very cosy, warm and clean. The lounge area was cosy and inviting. Bedrooms clean and comfortable. Kitchen was clean and tidy. Excellent standards for a very modest price.

· Host Mike was nice & the place was warm with great wifi
· Didn't like the shower, toilet setup but they weren't clean & there was mould on some parts of the walls/ceiling and window frame. Bed was uncomfortable & even though there was mention of double glazing it was noisy with both traffic (i was a couple rooms in too) and others moving around as doors squeaked super thin walls I could hear everything that was happening in other rooms.

A cozy little corner in Kaikoura. Mike is very helpful. Clean, quiet rooms. Love the common area and kitchen. They even have a small garden at the back. Very nicely decorated place although not very big. Well equipped kitchen. Easy parking and great location. Thin walls but guests were very well behaved and lowered down voices when it was late. Highly recommended!

An OK hostel with excellent owner and staff. The rooms are basic but good to sleep in. The kitchen and the common areas are large and good.
Please note that the hostel is on a hill just behind the central part of Kaikoura so it is an uphill walk to get there.

The welcome here was like being welcomed as a friend. The place is located about 10 mins (slow walk) from the centre and has fantastic views. Bed was comfy (rm c upstairs) and it was blissfully quiet. Facilities good. I did not see the main downstairs facilities. Lovely garden. Only downside was had only 1 night here!

This place is great for budget travel. The room is small but neat, tidy and comfortable, with all facilities. The common areas are cozy with great views. Mike, who runs the place, is a superb host and was the best part of staying here. He was very welcoming and accommodating and even let me borrow his jacket when there was some unexpected rain. I will forever be thankful for his kindness. Wouldn't hesitate before recommending Sky Hi to anyone!

Sky Hi Hostel is perfect for your short or long term stay in Kaikoura. Mike who runs it was very welcoming. Showed us around & was very friendly & eager to answer any questions we had. The garden out back was perfect to sit in the hammock & have a cider. Beds were comfortable & room was clean. You can tell Mike takes pride in his place. Will definitely stay again when we are in town.
